The Sergeant Corps is the backbone of the US Army. US Army: strength, uniform, ranks, service life, history and interesting facts American military ranks

In the American army, the gradation of ranks differs from the Soviet/Russian system and instead of the usual sergeants and petty officers, junior and senior officers with generals, there is the following:

Commissioned Officers, certified superiors. Actually officers in the Russian analogy. They in turn are divided into:

General Officers, chief superiors. In the USSR/RF this is the generals
- Field Grade Officers, superiors of the field category. In the USSR/RF these are senior officers
- Сompany Grade Officers, company category commanders. In the USSR/RF these are junior officers

Warrant Officers. The translation is quite tricky - the authorities of the warrant. In the USSR/RF these are warrant officers. The US Air Force does not have this category at all.

Non-Commissioned Officers, not certified superiors. In the USSR/RF these are sergeants and foremen.

Enlisted, conscript, serving in general. In the USSR/RF these are privates.

From left to right.

1 row

Major General - Brigadier General*
Lieutenant General - Major General
Colonel General - Lieutenant General
General - General
Marshal of the Russian Federation - General of the Army**

* Of course, this is a purely conditional comparison, since there is no brigadier general in the RF Armed Forces. A brigade within a division is commanded by a colonel, and a separate brigade by a major general.
** Marshal of the Russian Federation - an honorary title, General of the Army - reserved.

2nd row

major - major
Lieutenant Colonel - Lieutenant Colonel
Colonel - Colonel

3rd row

ml. lieutenant - there is no analogue
lieutenant - Second Lieutenant*
Art. Lieutenant - First Lieutenant
captain

* In general, the word Lieutenant and the Russian lieutenant derived from it are translated as deputy, assistant. So the lieutenant is much more Russian.

Art. ensign - Chief Warrant Officer 5
Ensign - Chief Warrant Officer 2
Stashina - first sergeant
Art. sergeant first class
Sergeant
Jr. sergeant - corporal*
Corporal - private first class
Private - private**

* in the US Army this rank does not refer to NCOs, but to Enlisted
** In the US Army there is also the concept of “recruit”. This is the same private, but passing through, in the Russian language of the KMB. It has no insignia, so you won’t see it outside the United States.

In addition, in the US Army there are three more sergeant ranks above 1st sergeant: Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant Major and Sergeant Major of the United States Army. But these are positions rather than titles.

Sergeant Major is considered the chief of all non-commissioned officers of one specific unit: a separate battalion or regiment, as well as a brigade or division. In fact, he is the foreman of a battalion or regiment most often.
Command Sergeant Major performs similar duties but at the level of the Command, which can be conditionally equated to our military district.
Well, the Sergeant Major of the United States Army performs the same duties at the level of all ground forces. There is only one person in this rank in the ground forces.

A person who wants to figure out how to distinguish an ordinary US Army soldier from an officer should know where exactly to look for signs of such distinction on a soldier’s equipment. The uniform of US military units is divided into two types:

  1. Field sample. Most often in camouflage colors.
  2. Military style. Predominantly green in color, from which it gets its common name, it consists of trousers, a beret and a jacket.

Why do I need to know this?

Many will be interested to know that the generally accepted American divisions into ranks by military rank are used not only in military affairs. For example, in the popular military tactical game airsoft, some teams actively use military ranks USA. Therefore, those who are interested in this game will find this information useful, which will help quickly destroy the command.

A Few Reasons to Know About the Differences in Army Military Ranks USA :

  1. When you meet a team in airsoft that follows the established NATO ranks, you will know who to eliminate first.
  2. By addressing a soldier of these troops correctly by rank, you will amaze him with your broad outlook and high intellectual abilities.
  3. When reading literature, historical or fiction, you will clearly know what place the character occupies in the military hierarchy.

Distinguishing marks

The identification of distinguishing marks among military personnel from this army largely depends on the type of army equipment they are wearing. We list where they can be found most often among ordinary soldiers and sergeants:

Now let's talk about how to find rank marks among officers:

An important feature of the US Army is that among military personnel it is not encouraged for a junior subordinate to address a senior official, by rank, as is customary in most other armies. A lower-ranking serviceman calls his immediate superiors succinctly - sir (sir) if he is a man, and mam (ma'am) if he is a woman. Army leaders usually address subordinates either simply by name or according to their rank.

If we talk in more detail about the peculiarities of treatment in the ranks of the US Army, it is based on the principle that a superior serviceman calls his subordinate by the rank group to which he belongs. So, for example, a general calls a senior officer colonel, and lieutenant addresses the sergeant - “sergeant” (sergeant), that is, subgroups of the hierarchy are not taken into account in ordinary communication.

The address of a civilian to a military man follows a similar pattern, the only thing is that if a person wants to emphasize a respectful or close relationship, then he adds - my (May), that is, mine. For example, my sergeant (may sergeant).

The ACU or Army Combat Uniform is a modern uniform of the US Army, which was adopted into service in 2004. This camouflage has a number of advantages that make it one of the most popular types of uniforms among airsoft fans. Firstly, the ACU uniform has a very comfortable and well thought out cut that includes several slanted pockets as well as Velcro on the arms. Secondly, the so-called pixel art, which has become fashionable in recent years

Battle Dress Uniform BDU translated from English - Combat Uniform - is the standard combat uniform of the US Armed Forces. The first BDUs began to enter service in September 1981 in the Woodland camouflage pattern and from 1983 Desert Chocolate Chip, used in 1990-1991 in the Persian Gulf. The BDU uniform is used by almost all US law enforcement agencies. The modern form of BDU has come a long way in evolution.

What does camouflage color mean and where is it used? Very often, uninitiated people are interested, after reading the price tag or information about the product in the booklet, what is BDU, what is ACU, what is the difference between BDU and ACU, what kind of color is it and in what environment is it used and relevant. Let's deal with these questions in order, starting with the American army. US Army Battle Dress Uniforms, abbreviated as

Unlike the armies of Old Europe, until the second half of the 20th century, there were practically no special developments in the field of creating camouflage clothing in the United States; traditional military colors, familiar to almost any army of that time, were used. Increasingly, in news reports from hot spots, you can hear the word special forces, which means special forces units as part of certain security or law enforcement agencies. This indicates the increased role of special operations forces of the FSB and GRU units in resolving power conflicts. To effectively achieve your goals, you need an appropriate form of clothing, which, in addition to convenience, should protect the fighter from

Modern camouflages of the USA and Canada The history of the mass introduction of camouflages into the US Armed Forces began, unlike the USSR, not during WWII, but during the Vietnam War. Before the Vietnam War, camouflage was used only by the US Marine Corps, which is considered a separate branch of the military, and then not on a large scale. This was a WWII-era camouflage pattern similar in texture to modern Australian camouflage, see below. The main part of the US Armed Forces in Korea and

Each army has its own system of military ranks. Moreover, rank systems are not something frozen, established once and for all. Some titles are abolished, others are introduced. Those who are at all seriously interested in the art of war and science need to know not only the entire system of military ranks of a particular army, but also to know how the ranks of different armies correlate, what ranks of one army correspond to the ranks of another army. There is a lot of confusion in the existing literature on these issues,

During the First World War of 1914-1918, tunics of arbitrary imitation models of English and French models, which received the general name French after the English general John French, became widespread in the Russian Imperial Army. Metal helmets, widely used in the armies of the world long before our era, lost their protective value by the 18th century due to the massive spread of firearms. Military rank tables

United States Army
(US Army)

From the author. The author adheres to the concept that it is impossible to translate foreign military ranks into Russian. Therefore, the names of ranks in the table are given in the original language, i.e. in English. The author did not consider it possible to translate the names of categories of American military personnel into Russian, since any translation would sound incorrect. Let everyone translate as he understands. The transcription is given nearby in parentheses, i.e. How does it sound in Russian? For those who want to know what rank in the Russian Army this or that rank of the American Army corresponds to, I refer you to the rank encoding. Titles with the same code can be roughly considered corresponding to each other. There is no exact correspondence of titles and there cannot be, because... for example, in the category of warrant officers (warrant officers) we have only two ranks, and in the American army - five, in the category of junior officers we have four ranks, and the Americans have three; We have four sergeants, and the Americans have six.

Unlike the Russian Army rank tables, this table includes a column called Pay grades. Roughly the translation sounds like this - “Pay Rank” or “Rank Code”. This is something like the “Service Categories” system that existed in the Red Army in 1924-1935. In some ways, the Pay grades system has something in common with the coding system proposed by the author to enable comparison of ranks. In any case, Pay grades creates certain conveniences for financial, clothing and food services. In orders and instructions, instead of "... junior officers are issued..., and if a junior officer holds a position..., then he is issued... as senior officers...", you can write briefly ".... issue officers from O1 to O9 inclusive."

The US Armed Forces consists of four main components - the US Army, US Navy, US Air Force and US Marine Corps. Each of these major branches of the armed forces has its own rank system. This table shows army ranks only.

The US Army rank system has a number of features. First of all, this is a developed category of non-commissioned officers. This category has six titles. Moreover, Command sergeant major (Command sergeant major), and Sergeant major of the Army (Sajant major of the army) are positions rather than ranks. These sergeants are the superiors of all sergeants and at the same time their representatives in the senior leadership of the armed forces, defenders of the interests of all subordinate sergeants. Loosely translated, his title is “Chief Sergeant.” There are: a) chief sergeant of command (there is one in each branch of the military and in each large military formation (army, corps, etc.); b) chief sergeant of the army (there is one under the Committee of Chiefs of Staff).

For officers and generals in the US Army there is a unique system of double ranks. Each of them has two titles - permanent and temporary. A permanent rank is a rank just like in our army. The temporary title must correspond to the position held.

For example, in both the USA and Russia the rank of captain corresponds to the position of company commander. When appointed in Russia to the position of company commander of a lieutenant, he will continue to serve with the rank of lieutenant until, based on his length of service, it is time for him to receive the rank of senior lieutenant, then captain. In the USA, when a second lieutenant is appointed to the position of company commander, he will immediately be awarded the temporary rank of captain, and his permanent rank will be second lieutenant. Based on his length of service, he will receive the rank of first lieutenant, then captain. Until the temporary and permanent ranks coincide.

One book (the memoirs of General Hamilton) describes how, as a sergeant during the First World War, he was very quickly promoted to the position of chief of staff of an infantry battalion and received the temporary rank of major. His permanent rank reached only second lieutenant by the end of the war. When the army was reduced after the war and he was put in charge of a platoon, he had to change the insignia of a major to the insignia of a lieutenant.

The highest permanent rank in the US Army is Major General. All other general ranks are temporary, i.e. the general is in the appropriate position. The rank of General of the Army is awarded only during war

In the United States, it is not customary for juniors to address seniors. Juniors address all senior military personnel the same way - sir (sir), and women - mam (ma'am). The elders address the younger ones either by name or by rank. Moreover, all military personnel of the “soldier” category are addressed as soldier, all sergeants and warrant officers are addressed as sergeant, all junior officers are lieutenant, all senior officers are colonel, and all generals - general (general). Civilians also address all military personnel in approximately the same way, and if they want to emphasize respect and closeness, they address it as My general.

Today, the United States of America is a full-fledged hegemon in the world political, economic and military arena. This situation became possible due to a combination of many factors. However, this article will discuss the power basis of this state. The US military of the 2000 era is a force structure staffed exclusively on a professional basis. Let's look at all its subtleties in more detail.

Historical reference

The US Army, which today numbers around one and a half million, has its origins in the Continental Army, which in turn was created in June 1775, shortly before the start of the country's Revolutionary War. The official date of the creation of the army is June 3, 1784, when the structure was legislatively approved by Congress.

In 1791, the United States Legion was created. It arose after many Americans left the Armed Forces after the end of the war for their own independence.

Last war with the British

In the period 1812-1815, the US army repelled the invasion of British troops. This time, the fighting turned out to be less successful for the Americans at the initial stage, as the British quickly advanced into the United States and even took complete control of the capital, the city of Washington. But over time, the American army improved its basic skills and combat training, which ultimately led to the restoration of the status quo at the front.

Conquest of new territories

From 1846 to 1848, the US Army fought Mexico. These hostilities ended successfully for the Americans, and they were able to annex vast areas, which over time transformed into the modern states of Nevada, California, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, Wyoming and New Mexico.

The bloodiest armed conflict for soldiers from the United States of America was the Civil Military Campaign of 1861-1865. For two years in a row, the US Army suffered defeat after defeat. However, everything changed after in July 1863, near Gettysburg, the military managed to seize the strategic initiative and turn the tide of the confrontation in their favor. Ultimately, in the spring of 1865, the northerners finally defeated the southerners in this armed confrontation.

Description of the structure

Service in the US Army can take place in the ranks of one of several branches of the military, namely:

  • Ground forces.
  • Air Force.
  • Navy forces.
  • Coast Guard.
  • Marine Corps.

An important nuance: all of these units report directly to the US Secretary of Defense, and the Coast Guard reports directly to the National Security Agency. However, if martial law is declared in the country, it too comes under the care of the head of the defense department.

Hierarchy

The US Army, which, according to 2018 numbers, is 1,430,000 people, based on the country's constitution, has a commander-in-chief in the person of the president of the state. And he, in turn, gives orders to the civilian minister of the Ministry of Defense, who reports to the heads of all sub-services of the Armed Forces. The responsibilities of the ministry include recruiting, organizing, equipping and supplying the army, and monitoring its level of combat training.

The top commanders of the armed forces are members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The head of this structural unit resolves issues related to coordinating the activities of the army and the state.

Operational interaction in the army is based on the work of the following commands:

  • North American.
  • South and Central American.
  • European.
  • Middle Eastern and Asian.
  • Pacific.

There are four other unified commands that do not have geographic areas of responsibility. Among them:

  • Strategic. He is entrusted with strategic planning and control over strategic nuclear weapons.
  • Preparations for special operations.
  • Preparations for strategic transfers.
  • United forces. It is responsible for combat training in all branches of the Armed Forces without exception.

Picking principle

Service in the US Army is on a contract basis. That is, simply put, all soldiers are professionals, for whose training and maintenance the state budget allocates a lot of money. Both American citizens and citizens residing in the state on a permanent basis or who have a residence permit in the States are accepted into the ranks of the army. A candidate for service is required to have at least a secondary education. Persons who have reached the age of eighteen are allowed to serve. But in some cases, with the consent of the parents, a young man can join the ranks already at the age of seventeen. In this case, the age limit for entering the service, depending on the unit, is:

  • Air Force and Coast Guard - 27 years.
  • Navy - 34 years old.
  • Marine Corps - 28 years.
  • Ground forces - 42 years.

Green Card holders do not have the right to serve in special forces or, for example, work as a military translator. Simply put, such people are completely denied access to information that may have the status of a state secret.

The US military budget for 2018 is $612 billion, while the Russian budget is only $76 billion.

Peculiarities

What is the US Army without benefits? Of course, in the bastion of democracy in the world there are a wide variety of bonuses. Thus, upon entering the service, a newly minted contract soldier receives a bonus in his bank account in the amount of $20,000 to $30,000. The monthly allowance of an ordinary soldier is $2,000. In addition, the recruit receives a completely free dormitory with furniture and amenities.

The US Army gives its military personnel the right, on the basis of current legislation, to enjoy the following civil rights:

  • Participate in the political life of the country, that is, elect or be elected.
  • Relax on vacation (up to 60 days).
  • Get free housing.
  • To get an education.
  • Take advantage of health insurance and take control of your health.
  • Count on retirement.

Enrollment

It should be understood that any benefits and privileges are not simply given to anyone anywhere, and the United States is no exception in this matter. After a recruit signs a contract and becomes a soldier in the US Army, he, in fact, no longer belongs to himself, but turns out to be what is called the “property” of the country. In this regard, the army leadership, if necessary, may well send a person to any existing point on the planet; it goes without saying that it can be “hot”. The contract duration varies from 4 to 8 years.

The service itself for the “young” begins at the center for recruits. In them, recruits undergo all the necessary stages of training and are under the strict control of the non-commissioned officers available there. This period lasts about 2–3 months. During this time, soldiers train almost continuously and sleep only 2–4 hours a day. The meal plan is three times a day, and additional allowance is paid from 100 to 300 dollars a month. For married soldiers, the state provides a house or compensates for rent - all this is at the choice of the soldier.

As for hazing, this phenomenon as such is not observed in the US Army. Manifestations of hazing are kept to a minimum thanks to the precise work of the military police, due to which sergeants are afraid to go beyond their powers. However, it is also impossible to state unequivocally that the “young” are not subjected to any bullying, since each military unit is a state within a state that carefully guards all its secrets. It is worth noting that sergeants may well shout at their subordinates, but cannot use physical force against them or insult or discriminate against them based on nationality, religion or gender.

Gender and national gradation

The US and Russian armies are the subject of study by many specialists. And not the least role in this has recently been played by the significantly worsened political situation in the world. Among US soldiers and officers, 63% are European Americans by ethnic origin, 15% are African Americans, 10% are Latin Americans, 4% are Asians, 2% are Alaska Natives and Indians, 4% are undecided on their nationality or race. belonging. Note that the last category of people enlists only in order to obtain US citizenship according to a significantly simplified scheme.

Regarding the gender situation, in the American army 86% are men and 14% are women.

Special unit

A separate branch of the US Army is the National Guard. The number of its military personnel in the country reaches about 350,000 people, and it is represented by reserve groups.

A special feature of serving in the ranks of the National Guard is that a person simultaneously combines combat missions in the ranks with his main job. Every year, about 60,000 Americans join the Guard units. Each of them is required to undergo combat training, both as part of groups and individually. There are 48 special training programs available, each lasting within 4 hours. Moreover, training takes place on weekends throughout the year.

In addition, all National Guardsmen certainly undergo two weeks of training, which consists of participating in military and command post exercises together with other army units. It is worth saying that all US employers, without exception, have been warned: it is strictly prohibited to prevent National Guard soldiers from carrying out the tasks assigned to them by the state, because otherwise there is a threat of criminal liability.

As benefits, National Guardsmen can receive:

  • Increase to pay for housing.
  • An increase to pay for your own treatment.
  • The right to purchase goods and products in special military stores.
  • Possibility to refuel at military gas stations at a cost of 50% of the market value.
  • An increase to your existing or future pension.

Army units and ranks

For the millers themselves, an army unit is a squad consisting of 9–10 soldiers, and is commanded by a sergeant.

The next level is a platoon with the number of soldiers from 16 to 44 and the commander is a lieutenant.

Three to five platoons form a company with a maximum number of military personnel up to 190 people. This unit is headed by a captain.

An army battalion includes 300-400 soldiers and a commander, a lieutenant colonel.

3-5 thousand soldiers is already a brigade led by a colonel.

The division includes 10-15 thousand soldiers under the command of a major general.

The corps under the command of a lieutenant general numbers up to 45,000 people.

And finally, the army is within 50,000 people. It is controlled by an officer with the rank of at least lieutenant general. An additional tank corps can be introduced into this unit.

The ranks in the US Army are as follows (from lowest to highest):

  • Private recruit.
  • Private.
  • Private first class.
  • Cpl.
  • Sergeant.
  • Staff Sgt.
  • Platoon Sergeant.
  • First Sergeant.
  • Staff Sergeant Major.
  • Sergeant Major SV.
  • Warrant Officer First Class.
  • Chief Warrant Officer Second Class.
  • Chief Warrant Officer Third Class.
  • Chief Warrant Officer Fourth Class.
  • Second Lieutenant.
  • First Lieutenant.
  • Captain.
  • Major.
  • Lieutenant colonel.
  • Colonel.
  • Brigadier General.
  • Major General.
  • Lieutenant General.
  • General
  • US Army General.

Power and strength

We will separately study the technical potential of the American armed forces. The armament of the US Army is quite diverse, but in general the following data can be given:

  • The number of airports and runways is 13,513.
  • Number of aircraft - 13,000.
  • The number of tanks is 8325 pieces.
  • The number of helicopters is 6225.
  • Combat vehicles (armored) - 25,782 units.
  • Self-propelled guns - 1934 pieces.
  • Multiple launch rocket systems – 830.
  • Aircraft carriers – 10 pieces.
  • Warships - 473 pieces.
  • Attack sea vessels - 17 pieces.

So, comparison of armies. The USA and Russia are now the main competitors on the world stage. Despite the fact that in absolute numbers of weapons the Russian Federation is ahead of the Americans, not everything is so simple here.

In particular, the US Army is ahead of the Russians in the total displacement of the naval fleet and in the number of all types of ships. But Russia’s air defense system, according to experts, is much stronger.

In general, the armies of Russia and the United States are power structures that are under constant analysis. Fierce debates about the level of training of the American and Russian military do not subside and can continue almost forever. But you should definitely pay attention to the following facts:

  • Not a single American warship has sunk due to the detonation of its own combat equipment located on board.
  • For more than 50 years, not a single emergency involving damage to the nuclear reactor zone has occurred on US nuclear submarines.
  • For 7 years, not one of the F-35 fighters has crashed during flights in a wide variety of conditions.

However, the key point is not even this information. The most important geopolitical aspect of the confrontation between the United States and the Russian Federation lies in their mutual nuclear deterrence, which has a very clear parity. And all because nuclear weapons are very similar to multiplying by zero: that is, no matter what the initial data are, the result will still be zero.

However, there is another criterion that is very often not taken into account. His name is fighting spirit. And in this matter, the Russians have always been ahead of their Western competitors, which has been repeatedly confirmed during various combat tests in other countries.

Outfit

The uniform of the US Army has undergone significant changes over many years of development. In 2004, the country's Ministry of Defense decided to create the latest universal camouflage. His tasks included ensuring the soldier’s camouflage in any conditions, at any time of the day and on any terrain. The technical specifications required the new form to have a pixel design. As a result, the UCP form appeared - very durable and reliable, produced using rip-stop technology.

But after 2010, UCP began to actively write off and issue military personnel a new generation of camouflage - multicam, which allows a soldier to easily camouflage himself in the city, forest, mountains and desert.

The US Army is one of the most powerful in the world, with a huge budget and capabilities comparable only to the Armed Forces of Russia and China. Naturally, such a military machine attracts attention, in particular, many are interested in the structure of military ranks and methods (insignia) of distinction. This applies not only to military personnel from other states, but also to ordinary citizens. Some are interested because of work, others out of idle curiosity, and still others want to enlist and become a military man in the States. The last action makes sense for citizens of other countries only if they want to obtain a US passport through the service - this is quite possible, although this method cannot be called the most accessible.

The structure of the US Armed Forces includes 4 types of troops, but they usually consider the main and most understandable to the average person - the infantry. Pilots and sailors must have special skills, and such skills can only be obtained in the armies of other countries - after this it is unlikely that they will be able to take the oath in America. Therefore, we will consider the land troops and ranks in this system - in principle, each corresponds to another in a different type of army, so if necessary, it is not difficult to figure it out.

Important! The American Armed Forces have a very diverse system of military honors, and it is very difficult to remember even the main ones. If you are already focusing on a certain type of troops, do not bother with knowledge about the system of differences in another.

Ranks in the US Army

US Army ranks in ascending order can be conditionally divided into several groups, where each has several positions. Of course, each subsequent assignment carries more powers, but each group designates a certain set of functions characteristic of the military personnel belonging to it. So, the list of groups looks like this:

  • rank and file - the first rank (private-recruit) is assigned to “green” recruits who are commissioned for the first time. It has no insignia. Next comes the regular private and private 1st class. The highest in this group are considered to be corporal and specialist - more experienced comrades responsible for junior military personnel. Such soldiers are the main performers of duty, called upon only to carry out orders;
  • sergeant corps - includes eight positions from a simple sergeant to an army sergeant major. The range of functions here is limited to the acceptance of delegated powers from junior officers when it is necessary to organize a certain work process. However, these are already experienced military men;
  • warrant officers - comparable to domestic warrant officers, they are divided into 5 classes, each with their own insignia. They are not required to perform command functions, but to provide high-quality technical support for the service. Financial responsibility for providing for the army lies with them;
  • officers - present here in ascending order: second and first lieutenants, captain, major, lieutenant colonel and colonel. These titles make it possible to apply for a serious position, with a large number of subordinates and broader command powers;
  • The general staff are the leaders of the US Army who are in direct contact with the country's leadership and give the main orders. The highest rank - General of the Army (not to be confused with the previous General of the Army) is received by only a few; it is almost impossible for a foreigner to receive it.

Let us note that among the rank and file there is an interesting title – specialist. This is closer to sergeants, but in general such servicemen are not considered military in the standard sense - they receive their “title” after receiving a certain education and are responsible specifically for the narrow industry in which they understand.

Each class has its own requirements, and you can move to the next group only if they are fully met. Of course, not only the powers differ, but also pay and prospects, but for any military junior officer the state already creates fairly solid conditions - this significantly differs the North Atlantic approach from similar structures in other major armies.

Important! It is possible to obtain citizenship through military service, but the process has several difficulties. If there is another option, it is better to use it, otherwise, thoroughly study the terms of service and the deadline for obtaining a passport.

The procedure for obtaining a US passport through the army

The first and main difficulty is the need to have US citizenship or residency (green card) in order to perform military service in America. Accordingly, foreigners need to find a basis and go through a lengthy procedure to obtain permanent resident status in the United States. This will take a lot of time and you will have to spend some money - depending on the situation, the amount can be quite significant. Next comes a whole series of medical and professional tests that are required to enter the service, and only after that you can try on a uniform and estimate your prospects for settling in the States.

The right to obtain citizenship arises only after a year of service (only in cases of hostilities - immediately), and here there is another “barrier” - you can submit the necessary documents only if legal grounds arise. Accordingly, only after a year can you write an application and send the papers, then you need to wait for a response - this takes about 6-8 months, which is a lot. At the same time, you have to worry about the entire period, because it is unknown how the procedure will go, and it is impossible to independently control the process. Fortunately, you can submit your papers at the unit where you are serving.

The third and most unpleasant barrier to using this method is the length of the army contract. If the passport itself can be obtained in less than two years of stay in the Armed Forces, then the minimum validity period of the agreement is 2 full calendar years. But minimum contracts are rarely concluded with visiting military personnel - more often this period starts from 3 years, and a maximum of 6 years. A lot of time to spend on military service in a foreign country. However, if there are no other options, and there is a great desire, you can resort to this path.

Remember that there is a whole system of ways to emigrate to North America, living conditions may be no less high for you in other countries, so consider all options. To do this, seek advice from a lawyer who understands this issue - many people, thanks to high-quality advice, have realized their dream. Becoming a military man is the best option for those who like this craft - then, indeed, you cannot find more tangible benefits.
