Buryat State University is a higher educational institution based in the city of Ulan-Ude. It was founded in 1995 on the basis of the Buryat State Pedagogical Institute named after Dorzhi and a branch of the Novosibirsk State University in Ulan-Ude. Acting Rector - Moshkin Nikolai Ilyich.

General information

Buryat State University includes 6 educational institutes, 7 faculties and 78 departments. More than 10 thousand students, 393 graduate students and 16 doctoral students study at the university. Education is conducted in 120 areas and specialties, including 109 programs of higher professional education and 11 programs of secondary vocational education. Fundamental library - 1 million 200 thousand volumes.

More than 1100 teachers work at the university, including 180 doctors of sciences and professors, 575 candidates of sciences and associate professors. Among the teachers there are 6 corresponding members of state academies: RAS, RAO, RAMS, as well as more than 30 academicians and corresponding members of public academies of Russia.

BSU past

The current university in Ulan-Ude was founded in 1932. It was organized on the basis of the Buryat-Mongolian branch of the Irkutsk Pedagogical University. The necessary personnel were sent to the new educational institution to organize the educational process. At the time of creation, 4 faculties were opened related to physics and mathematics, literature and linguistics, natural science, social and economic sciences.

The war that began in 1941 hit the university. Its development was stopped, the teaching staff was dissolved. After the end of the war, the Pedagogical Institute began to gradually recover. The existing faculties were changed and new ones were opened, the material and technical base was strengthened, the educational and production areas of the university were increased. In 1995, an important change took place, which the leadership of the educational institution was striving for - the Pedagogical Institute received the status of a classical university.

BSU today

FSBEI HPE "Buryat State University" is considered one of the oldest universities in our country. It is one of the leading scientific and educational centers of the Far East and Siberia. It has over 10 thousand students who have chosen programs of higher and secondary vocational education.

BSU today is:

  • 7 faculties, 6 institutes, 1 college;
  • more than 1100 teachers, among whom there are many professors, doctors of sciences, associate professors, candidates of sciences;
  • 11 buildings for classes, 7 hostels;
  • Spartak Stadium, Trud Sports House, a sports and recreation complex on Lake Baikal, a sports and recreation camp on Lake Pike.

Buryatsky includes the following:

  1. Land use, geography and biology. This faculty, which has existed since 1932, offers applicants such areas as "Biology", "Geography", "Cadastres and land management", "Pedagogical education" (teacher of biology), "Remote sensing and geodesy".
  2. Tourism, sports and physical culture. This faculty, as the name implies, trains specialists for education, physical education, sports and health tourism. An educational and sports base is used to prepare students.
  3. Physical and technical. This structural unit has been training specialists since 1932. To become a bachelor, you can enter this faculty in the areas of "Physics", "Power Engineering", "Innovation", "Information Systems and Technologies".
  4. Chemical. This structural subdivision separated from the Faculty of Natural Geography in 1997. Today it trains chemists for industrial organizations, research institutions. There are also several additional areas - "Geology", "Nature management and ecology".
  5. Socio-psychological. This faculty trains specialists to work with people. Available directions - "Psychology" and "Social work".

Admission to BSU

Admission to an educational institution begins with the preparation of documents. A copy of the passport, certificate or a copy of it, photographs should be submitted at the time when the admission campaign starts (Buryat State University shows the schedule of the admission committee on the information stand at the university and on the official website). An application is made to the school. University staff registers all documents.

After leaving school, individuals must have the results of the Unified State Examination in those subjects that are established as entrance tests. Applicants with secondary vocational and higher education are allowed to take exams in approved subjects at the university.

Scientific schools

To date, Buryat State University is one of the leading universities in Siberia and the Far East, it is distinguished by a high level of academic staff (third place in the Siberian Federal District after Novosibirsk and Tomsk State Universities).

Effective work is being carried out in 30 established scientific areas, 14 of which are included in the "List of priority areas for the development of science, engineering and technology in the Russian Federation" and "List of critical technologies of the Russian Federation". The integration of higher education and university science with academic institutions of the Russian Academy of Sciences contributes to the activation and increase in the effectiveness of research work. Currently, more than 80 employees of the Buryat Scientific Center of the SB RAS work at BSU, while 236 university graduates work at the BSC SB RAS and 102 study at the postgraduate course of the scientific center.
