Institutions of secondary vocational education in Komi this year were in high demand, already in June it became clear that the competition in some colleges would compete with the university one. Among the most popular educational institutions of the republic was the Syktyvkar Humanitarian and Pedagogical College named after Ivan Kuratov. This summer, the college admissions committee did not experience a shortage of applicants for any of the specialties: everywhere the number of applications confidently overlapped the number of places in budget groups. The greatest demand was for such specialties of full-time education as "Teaching in primary classes" - five people applied for one budgetary place, "Tourism" (competition 4.5), "Physical culture" (3.7). Another example - the admission of applicants from previous years also showed the demand for the specialty "Preschool Education", so the number of budget places for this specialty was doubled. But even this measure did not allow accepting everyone who wanted to become a specialist in the field of preschool education. The competition for this specialty was more than three people per place. In total, about 1050 applications were submitted to the college for 305 budget places.
- The admission campaign was held with unprecedented excitement, we actually “closed” the enrollment in budgetary groups already in mid-July. Students enter the full-time department after the ninth grade, when enrolling, grades in certificates are taken into account (a rating is built). With such a high competition for budget places, we accepted entirely excellent students and good students, but still a lot of applicants who also have good grades were left out, - said the director of the college Dmitry Belyaev. - In the last days of August, many people who want to study with us, their parents, call us daily, asking if there is any other opportunity to join us. Therefore, we have decided to continue recruiting for the three most demanded full-time specialties on a commercial basis. There is also a commercial group for part-time students - in the specialty "Law and organization of social security." The cost of training is quite affordable - about thirty thousand rubles a year. We individually consider the possibility of postponing tuition fees. In addition, those full-time students who go to college on a commercial basis, but show good results in their studies, have the opportunity to later transfer to the budget group.
The deadline for accepting applications for the specialty "Teaching in Primary Schools", "Tourism", "Physical Education" is extended until September 18 inclusive, for the specialty "Law and Organization of Social Security" - until September 11.
The competition for admission to the Syktyvkar Humanitarian Pedagogical College has been steadily growing for five years. What is the reason for such attention of applicants to this educational institution?
Dmitry Belyaev believes that, firstly, the policy of the Komi Ministry of Education to increase the prestige of secondary vocational education and modernize this area, which started in 2011, played a positive role. Young people now strive to get a specialty as soon as possible, get a job, and then, if necessary, improve their qualifications by studying at a university in absentia. Secondly, it is still quite convenient to enter the secondary school after the ninth grade - you do not need to take the exam. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, the Syktyvkar Humanitarian and Pedagogical College named after Ivan Kuratov is one of the oldest, largest and leading secondary specialized educational institutions in the region, the prestige of which is growing year by year. This year, this is clearly seen in the number of non-resident applicants who are also striving here from other regions. It should be noted that ninth-graders with excellent and good grades in the certificate, leaving school for college, are young men and women who are already seriously aimed at obtaining a profession, they come to college consciously.
– This year we even had applicants from Kazakhstan, there were quite a few ninth-graders from the Arkhangelsk region. Much more than before, there were applications from ninth-graders from Usinsk and Inta,” said Dmitry Belyaev. – We have good dormitories, there are free places, so we are always glad to nonresident students, both state employees and those who come to study on a commercial basis. In general, we have good conditions for both study and leisure. Two educational buildings, which house four sports halls, one gym, a ski base, three assembly halls and two choreographic halls, an exhibition hall, libraries - stationary and mobile, three museums, five computer science classrooms and much more. We even have our own television (we started this project in the spring), the guys make programs about college life, and several stories about studying with us were broadcast this summer on one of the federal TV channels in Komi.
According to the director, the institution actively participates in various competitions, promotions, for example, the college is one of the main organizers of the Republican Robotics Festival, which was sensational in the spring.
– In addition, we pay much attention to social activities, including the promotion of road safety, the development of physical education and sports. By the way, on behalf of the Komi government, we are currently creating a regional TRP Center on the basis of the college, which will be equipped with modern equipment. Our volunteer movement "Wind of Change" actively cooperates with social centers, public funds, various organizations of the municipal and regional levels. We implement many interesting and useful projects, we have wonderful professional teachers, excellent educational and household facilities, extensive ties with many educational institutions of secondary and higher pedagogical education in the republic and abroad, and we have every right to be called the flagship of secondary vocational education in Komi.

November 14, 1921 in Ust-Sysolsk (now the city of Syktyvkar) the Ust-Sysolsk Central Pedagogical College of Advanced Type was established.

The opening of the technical school was of great importance for the training of qualified personnel, raising the literacy and culture of the population.

There was an institution in the former Theological School in a 3-story stone building at the address: st. Embankment, house 44 (now Kirov street, the building of the National Gallery of the Komi Republic).

In January 1940, by the Decree of the Supreme Council of the Komi ASSR of the first convocation, the school was named after the Komi poet and educator I. A. Kuratov.

In 1985, a bust of I. A. Kuratov was installed in front of the educational building at 24 Oktyabrsky Prospekt.

In 1993, the Pedagogical College was transformed into the Syktyvkar Pedagogical College No. I. A. Kuratov, and since May 26, 2008 it becomes the Syktyvkar Humanitarian and Pedagogical College named after I. A. Kuratov.

The college is proud of its graduates. More than thirty thousand specialists who successfully work in many areas: educational, managerial, scientific, cultural, economic, political, and sports have received the profession of a teacher here.

One of the activities of the center is the development of creativity and literary taste among college students, which has been the Liszt literary studio for many years now.

The result of the work of the literary studio are poetry collections and literary almanacs.

During this period of activity of the literary studio, seven books were published: “A Drop of Spring Drop” (1997), “Grains of Time” (2001), “Wings of Heavenly Heights” (2003), “A Light Beam of a Flying Thought” (2005) and “Silent Flight golden leaf” (2007), “Droplets of life” (2008), “Golden word of sunbeams” (2011), poetry collection “Stars were just falling...” (2013). The collections include stories, essays, essays, translations, poems in Komi and Russian by students, teachers and graduates of the Pedagogical College, members of the Writers' Union of Russia.
