Humanitarians and techies - is it a myth? Does it interfere with your child's development? We study the types of thinking: who is a humanist.

In fact, a humanist is not someone who likes to read good books. Every normal person with imagination should love to read. The great physicist Albert Einstein admired Dostoevsky. Of course, the humanities are different from the exact ones. But not quite the way many people think. The fact is that the natural (exact) sciences tend to build an objective picture of the world. Humanities, on the other hand, deal with human consciousness. And it, firstly, is always non-linear, secondly, it is difficult to formalize, and thirdly, it is very subjective. Psychologists say that any phenomenon has at least seven explanations, and in any situation - seven ways of action. Therefore, the main task of the humanist is to see the ambiguity and complexity of phenomena, their fundamental openness.

For example, a literary text for the humanities is a way of knowing the world. We can know ourselves through text. We can analyze the relationship of the characters. We can consider how and from what the text is made. To study how a person (in this case, the author) creates a model that takes on a life of its own. If a person is interested in looking at this ambiguity and turning it around like a kaleidoscope, then he is a humanist. If you just want to admire - he is a good person. But this has nothing to do with the humanities.

Do you think philologists are those who love literature? Oh no! Philologists study and dissect literature. They can no longer love books with a naive quivering love. And the one who remains in such a pristine state is usually not particularly quoted as a specialist.

"Humanitarians" sometimes call themselves people of art - those who go to VGIK, Shchepkinskoe or Surikov schools. Alas, art and the humanities are two different things. Art appeals to the senses, and the humanities appeal to reason. Yes, in medieval Europe, the humanities were called liberal arts (by the way, arithmetic was one of them), but since the Middle Ages a lot of water has flowed under the bridge.

Anyone who wants to enter a creative university needs to learn to think and analyze. This is where literature research can help. The experience of people just entering adulthood is usually quite limited. And literature gives many models of perception of the mass of spiritual shades and life conflicts. So if a person at the age of 16-17 did not read a certain number of texts and did not let them pass through himself, it means that the work of his soul is almost certainly not adjusted.

Formally, 55-60 points in literature are enough for admission to most creative universities. But in fact, in order to become an artist, director, musician, artist, it is not enough to “study” program works from brief retellings. They must be passed through both the heart and the mind.

  4. The area of ​​religion correlates with the ethical, but goes beyond this division, since it is about communication with God (including reading religious literature, the form of this communication, etc.).

Here, first of all, we are dealing with Cohen's idea of ​​predetermined research in a chosen way and attitude to description, or, in the words of G. Cohen, "the methodology of the approach constitutes the subject of research."

In Martin Heidegger's article "The Time of the Picture of the World" we read that in the humanities the criticism of sources (their discovery, selection, verification, use, preservation and interpretation) corresponds to the experimental study of nature in the natural sciences.

But the main task of humanitarian research, according to Bakhtin, lies in the problem of understanding speech and text as objectifications of a productive culture. In the humanities, understanding passes through the text - through questioning the text in order to hear what can only be said: intentions, reasons, reasons for the goal, intentions of the author. This understanding of the meaning of the utterance moves in the mode of analyzing a speech or text, the life event of which, “that is, its true essence, always develops at the boundary of two consciousnesses, two subjects” (this is a meeting of two authors).

Thus, the primary given of all disciplines of the humanities is speech and text, and the main method is the reconstruction of meaning and hermeneutic research.

They absorb history, literature and foreign languages ​​like fish in water. People with this personality type love cinema or theatre, and can often speak in public because they have a great "hung tongue". Against, technicians are considered more active, energetic, but at the same time down to earth. They have remarkable perseverance and purposefulness. Often they are considered people more confident in themselves and their actions. Their mind works with high speed, consistency and clarity. At school, they gravitate more towards physics, mathematics and computer science, to "you" with any device, from a smartphone to a computer. However, despite the fact that techies feel more confident, they do not like live communication, which they successfully replace with intra-group chats and forums.

Techies VS Humanists

One person can write good prose, poetry, draw beautifully, but understanding the device of even a relatively simple device is a difficult task for him. And the other, with all the desire, will not rhyme a couple of lines, but with the “on you” technique. This is understandable and natural, because one of them is a “humanitarian”, and the other is a “techie”.

A person of a humanitarian mindset, when considering some issue, phenomenon, mainly pays attention to the most memorable, conspicuous signs. He is capable of logical thinking, but only to a certain limit. When memorizing some new information, a humanist uses such signs as a partial match for several of the most significant characteristics, and sometimes only for one of the most characteristic signs. Secondary signs of the humanities, as a rule, are classified as insignificant trifles, and therefore do not pay due attention to them.

That is why it is difficult for a pronounced humanist to succeed in such purely technical disciplines, for example, such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, etc. After all, it is necessary to carefully consider absolutely all known information, down to the most insignificant.

How a techie thinks

For a pronounced "techie", the very idea that you can neglect some information, simply because it is not very significant, is almost impossible. Of course, a person with a technical mindset is also able to distinguish the main from the secondary, but he considers and takes into account absolutely everything, down to the smallest detail. Trying to figure out something new or remember some information, a "techie" cannot confine himself to the formal coincidence of some of the most significant signs, as a humanist would do. He will definitely check whether the secondary signs also coincide, and only after that will he remember the information or draw a conclusion. One single fact, a sign that stands out from the general series, will force the techie to check and think everything over again.

A techie may seem too meticulous, slow (especially from the point of view of the humanities). But this is just a natural consequence of the peculiarities of his thinking and behavior.

Therefore, the eternal dispute, who is more important - "physicists" or "lyricists" (that is, techies and humanists) does not make sense. Both are equally important in life.

Since the beginning of time, people have been divided into different groups. It all started with tribes and tribal communities, and then it went and went: Freemasons, Mormons, hippies and punks, emo and goths, metalheads, hipsters and so on. Moreover, the more people, the more these same groups.

Indeed, in order to be a humanist, it is not necessary to love reading and writing poetry, and knowledge of the laws of physics does not yet make a person a techie. Everything is much more complicated. In addition, the world is arranged in such a way that both are needed.

Answering the question "who is cooler, techies or humanitarians" is about the same as deciding "who is cooler, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone."
