Biographies Characteristics Analysis

Leadership begins with the personal qualities of a leader. Leadership Development Exercises

The main referents (features) of leadership are:

A high level of activity and initiative of a person in solving joint tasks by a group;

Greater awareness of the problem being solved, the members of the group, the situation as a whole;

Significantly pronounced ability to influence other people;

Greater correspondence of behavior to the opinions, values accepted in this group;

A more vivid manifestation of personal qualities that are standard for this group.

The most frequently mentioned personality traits are: dominance, self-confidence, emotional balance, resistance to stress, creativity, striving for achievement, enterprise, responsibility, task reliability, independence, sociability.

Let's take a closer look at each of these features.

dominance translated from English means "domination", "predominance", "influence". We are talking about dominance as the desire of the leader to influence other people. At the same time, it is necessary to constantly remember the psychological side of the issue. His influence must find an internal response from subordinates. Otherwise, the desire of the leader to dominate will remain nothing more than a duty claim to power.

The next personality trait is self-confidence . In a difficult situation, you can rely on such a person: he will support and protect. Such a leader provides a certain psychological comfort and increases motivation to complete the task. Subordinates, as a rule, feel the state of the leader very well, and the latter, no matter how the circumstances develop, should, at least outwardly, keep himself calm and confident enough.

Let's focus on two related personality traits - emotional balance and stress resistance . Emotional imbalance can reduce a person's self-confidence, and thus his business activity. But the leader is a living person. The constant suppression of negative emotional reactions, their containment in a public working environment can turn into a number of unpleasant consequences for the individual - neuroses and psychosomatic diseases developing on their basis. Therefore, the moment connected with the search for means of emotional discharge by the head deserves attention. The means of relaxation should be sought in the structure of the individual's leisure, the forms of which are extremely diverse.

Stress resistance of the individual is quite closely adjacent to emotional balance. Stress is an overstrain that reduces vital activity, disorganizing behavior, weakening attempts to achieve a goal. The whole difficulty of stress lies in the fact that the level of stress, which is favorable for the effective life of some of us, is completely unbearable for others. Different people require different levels of stress to be happy.

Another personality trait creativity. In translation, it means “the ability to creatively solve problems.” The ability of a leader to see the elements of novelty, creativity in the activities of other people, to support their undertakings.

The following two personality characteristics are − striving for achievement and entrepreneurship. Closely related to them is risk-taking personality.

The pursuit of achievement reflects the fundamental human need to achieve a goal. Such people prefer situations in which they can take responsibility for solving the problem. They set rather moderate goals for themselves, striving to ensure that the risk is largely pre-calculated and predictable. People who have a need to achieve a goal want specific feedback that informs them of how well they are doing on the task. Perhaps that is why they feel great in business life: after all, it constantly creates situations with clear information about achieving success.

Now, regarding two more rather related personality characteristics - responsibility and reliability in completing the task.

We constantly feel the lack of these human qualities in everyday life, reaping the fruits of many years of depressing irresponsibility. Meanwhile, once in Russia, responsibility and reliability were business cards of entrepreneurs. Significant deals were concluded on parole, and God forbid, it was to violate the obligation taken: the offender was in big trouble, primarily financial, they simply stopped dealing with him.

Undoubtedly, an important personality trait that ensures the success of actions in various areas of life, including decision-making, is independence. The main thing is that the manager should have his own point of view on emerging problems, his professional and human face and support this property in his subordinates. Prominent entrepreneurs often encourage dissent in their companies if it serves the social and economic health of the latter.

And finally, the last personality trait considered here is sociability . There is no particular need to prove how important it is in any activity.

I would like to especially note such a personal quality of a leader as charisma (Annex 19) . The charismatic influence of a person is built on the strength of the personal qualities or abilities of a leader. It is determined by the attraction of other people to the leader. Charismatic influence is entirely personal. Here are some characteristics of a charismatic personality:

- Energy exchange. It seems that this person radiates energy and charges the surrounding people with it;

- Impressive appearance. A charismatic leader is not necessarily handsome, but attractive, well-behaved, and well-behaved;

- Independence of character. Does not rely on others in its pursuit of well-being and respect;

- Good rhetorical skills. He has the ability to speak and the ability to interpersonal communication.

- Perception of admiration for one's personality. He feels comfortable when others express admiration for him, not at all falling into arrogance or selfishness;

- Decent and confident demeanor. He looks collected and in control of the situation.

People are more likely to be influenced by those who have character traits that they admire and who are their ideal that they would like to be like.

We have looked at a number of important personality traits. Of course, a person is not born with a ready-made set of these traits. All of them are a unique fusion of both the natural features of a person and the socio-historical conditions of his life.

The main thing is that a person has a desire to improve himself, a clear understanding of the need to build his personality daily and hourly.

But the two roles presented above (formal and informal) do not exhaust the leadership structure. In the life of the team, different situations happen and in them so-called situational leaders - people who are capable of leading a team for a certain period of time.

In addition, a team may consist of several microgroups, and they often have their own leaders. And they are sometimes capable of exerting a significant influence on the life of the collective, especially in cases where one or another group occupies a dominant position in the collective.

How to become a leader

Indeed, how do people become leaders? Does it come with experience, with age, with education, or is a true leader born that way?

A well-known scientist, the author of the book "The Psychology of a Leader" A. Meneghetti, is convinced that a person receives certain inclinations of a leader from birth, but this does not mean that he will become a leader. To become a leader, one must reach the appropriate level of culture, education, life experience and professionalism. Meneghetti identifies several steps on the path to leadership:

The first step is culture and education . They include general culture (it is important to know the culture of your country and environment, as well as a little understanding of art, music, etc.), professional culture (to be a professional in your field) and experience in diplomatic relations (the ability to create people capable of realizing goals, because the leader cannot find ready-made people).

The second stage is ability to overcome stereotypes . This requires inner maturity. A leader must be able to rise above traditional values. This second aspect must always be in agreement with the first. It is impossible to offend people by destroying humanistic, ideological and other values, one should rise above them. The second level of leader formation cannot be achieved in a university or academy, only experience and teachers of life lead to it.

The third step is knowing your unconscious . The unconscious is a storehouse of life and intelligence that we do not fully use. Throughout its history, mankind has developed many methods for activating the potential stored in the human subconscious. Meditative techniques of Eastern origin are known. It turns out that true leadership is work, work and more work. First of all, work on yourself. And the innate inclinations of a leader are the inner potential that must be subjugated and directed in the right direction, otherwise the born leader will not go further than the leader of the yard football team.

P. Senge, speaking about the formation of a leader, notes: “Such people cannot be created at all, because they create themselves. Most prominent leaders were neither tall nor slim nor particularly attractive. Often they, rather mediocre speakers, do not stand out in the crowd, and their eloquence is not capable of inflaming listeners. They are usually distinguished by the clarity and persuasiveness of ideas, the depth of conviction and the constant willingness to learn. They do not have a ready answer for everything, but they know how to instill confidence in others that together “we can learn everything that we need to achieve what we want. The ability of such people to be natural leaders is a by-product of their whole life, subject to the development of the ability to formulate and persuade, listen and evaluate the ideas of other people. They reflect on personal values and link their own behavior to them. If personal charisma (an unacknowledged attractiveness to others) does not rely on such efforts, then it is just a style devoid of content. And then everyone who succumbs to the charm of an empty style loses the last ability to think independently and make reasonable decisions. Such a leader is dangerous both for society and for the organization.”

The phrase “Leaders are not born, but become them” is known to everyone who at least once in their life was in the team. These are not empty words, experienced psychologists with experience working with people, versed in human psychologists note that there are proven and very successful methods to cultivate leadership qualities and commanding habits. But is this enough? What else should be embedded in the human psyche in order to achieve the goal - to be able to manage people, keep the public mood in their fists, keep their nose “downwind” ”and be able to create a favorable atmosphere. Moreover, it is not necessary that the person they are following was "seven spans in the forehead." You just need to learn how to set specific goals, prioritize.

An important and, perhaps, the main quality of a leader is a heightened intuition, the ability to anticipate and communicate with others, especially with his colleagues, the team. Most attribute to the leaders a lot of certain character traits and qualities. But it's not right.

Leaders are not always heroes, erudite, handsome, strong men. This person knows how to act, sometimes goes for broke, realistically and honestly assesses the current situation, is ready for defeats and endures them steadfastly and clearly assesses his abilities and capabilities. He does not deceive himself and does not fly in the clouds, which is why the qualities of a leader can be brought up in everyone.

As you can see, this is not an alien creature that absorbed amazing qualities with mother's milk, but an ordinary person.

Important qualities for a leader

Consider a number of distinguishing features of someone who can curb the crowd and lead millions. Some of the signs listed below can be in the blood of a person, that is, transmitted at the genetic level, some traits are brought up by the environment, and something can be acquired on your own, taking the will "into a fist". But as an adult, many argue that it is impossible to re-educate yourself. What is in the character will accompany you until the end of your life. But practice shows something completely different. Everything can be changed, the main thing is to have a desire - this is the most important "ingredient" of human nature. If we truly want something, then we achieve it, no matter what it costs us, right?

Respect for people, communication skills

Society is a very sensitive category. Not only to lead, but at least to stop at the level of communication is possible only when you show respect for your counterpart. An insulting, boorish attitude, disregard for advice, inability to listen, hear, closeness always causes rejection in people and there can be no talk of any development.

It is necessary to "bribe" a partner, and in a good way. That is, to show maximum understanding and make it clear that his thought and opinion are of tremendous importance to you. You also need to learn how to interest a person. After all, none of us will open a book or watch a movie if there is no interest. And what can we say about important matters, for example, about a new project, a trip, a vacation, if a person could not be interested?

Interest in team life

You can't be in a group and not know who and what breathes in it. The leader is simply obliged to be aware of events in the life of his comrades. His participation, banal sympathy or understanding is already the first step towards "recruitment". It is also important to create a healthy, stimulating, and if you want, motivating atmosphere in the team. And it directly depends on the leader. He is obliged to communicate with everyone on an equal footing, not to single out anyone from the crowd and not create favorites for himself. There should be no jealousy, envy and resentment in the group. All team members must feel their own importance in their souls and understand that without him the chain of common action will be broken.

Self-demanding

To become a leader, you must first be demanding of yourself. Let's answer the question - will you follow the person who has problems with self-discipline? No, there is hardly a successful company whose head is an alcoholic or drug addict. In any case, at the beginning of the journey, he was not distracted by stupid things, and therefore people followed him.

So, what requirements should a leader fulfill in relation to himself: lead. A sick, weak person, whether a woman or a man, does not evoke authority. You need to work on your health. Go in for sports or at least visit the pool, fitness club, gym.

The leader cannot continually disappear in hospitals due to malaise. Therefore, everything must be done so that the organs do not fail - eat, drink clean water.

Mental capacity

The head of the team must be more erudite than the members of his team. You need to be ready for any questions and give your associates a specific and verified answer. Chatter about nothing, empty promises, hidden lies and other negative methods of recruiting people will come out sideways. If someone believes at the beginning, then later he will figure out the deceiver and the braggart in no time. The minimum will go away, the maximum will “clean up” the face for the lost time and a lot of disappointments. Read books, always follow the news, especially in your field.

  1. Do not be ashamed to learn from more experienced colleagues. Especially follow the activities, character traits of those who have managed to achieve more in this life and enjoy the authority and respect of the environment.
  2. Do not be afraid of mistakes, they teach us not to make them in the future. The main thing is not to stop because of small flaws and move on. But if possible, still learn not from your own, but from the mistakes of others. Analyze their methods, experience and apply in your work. Moreover, tritely ask an experienced friend for advice, do not hesitate to ask for help.
  3. Excellent help to develop intelligence new acquaintances, communication with friends. In the process of conversation, we can always learn something new, replenish our knowledge in a particular area. The information you get is always helpful.
  4. The brain also needs to rest. Periodic breaks in work, a positive attitude, joy and fun can also refresh abilities.

Be confident

Without this character trait, you will never be a leader. To achieve at least something - you need to believe in yourself and bet only on success. Of course, some degree of doubt may be, this is normal for each of us.

To build confidence, it is necessary to record every victory, no matter how small, insignificant. From such bricks it will be possible to erect a huge structure, which will become a powerful core in the character of the leader.

Having won the first "win", continue on. Be assertive if you find yourself in a difficult situation, look for other options to overcome the path. Do not attribute difficulties to the negative, it is to some extent a plus. Thus, the character is honed and affirmed.

It is also important to show confidence in yourself during the conversation. Few of us know that the firmness of character is primarily manifested in communication. And if you overcome uncertainty, timidity in conversation, then it will be much easier.

Therefore, communicate, conduct conversations with those who are older and higher than you in status. Do not be afraid to receive "blows", it is important that you fight back, that is, be able to parry, respond. Over time, the skill will be honed, and the conversation will take place in an easy and relaxed atmosphere, without your stuttering, punctuation, blushing, etc.

Know how to communicate properly

To feel like a true leader, don't be afraid to speak in front of people. Oratory provides not only enticing words and slogans. A person should be able to "hold on" to people, inspire confidence in himself and those who listen to him. Try it right now.

When communicating and speaking, defending projects, one should not put pressure on pity. Remember - any business that you went on with the team is fraught with problems that need to be solved steadfastly and without snot. At the same time, the voice sounds firm, speak clearly, convincingly, you can even add a little “arrogance”, but in moderation!

Be assertive and resilient

Endurance and assertiveness of a person will help to be confident in oneself. It is impossible after the first failure or difficulty to give up. The team will follow exactly the person who does not give up and inspires confidence in his comrades, motivates his determination, stimulates not only in words, but also in behavior. This is where human responsibility comes into play. After all, his comrades look at him with the hope that he will bring them to a successful conclusion. Remember the great personalities who made the greatest discoveries for the world. After all, they had to train for years, decades, to achieve their goal. There are no easy victories, otherwise it will be simply imperceptible.

There is an easy way to improve your stamina. Set yourself a task that you are currently incapable of accomplishing anyway. But go towards it with decisive steps, overcoming difficulties and obstacles.

Work on your character

What are we talking about the boss, who now and then yells at everyone, throws papers, scolds for a reason and without? Certainly disgusting words. These companies tend to have high turnover. Employees replace each other, because of which labor efficiency and, of course, profits fall. Even if they offer a big salary, you don’t want to become the object of humiliation and insults. Therefore, remember the following rules:

  1. Control your emotions and don't lose your temper.
  2. Do not gossip with anyone about a partner, stop evil conversations in the team (home, class).
  3. There is no need to be too soft, to allow everything and forgive everything, otherwise there can be no question of discipline. And besides, a real leader should not be a “mumbler”. The main thing is to be fair, and at the same time not to give chances for violation of subordination, familiarity, amiability.
  4. Be positive, inspire only positive prospects in colleagues.

The leader must be optimistic and look to the future with confidence. No disappointments, scandals, conflicts, showdowns.

Be firm

No matter how hard it is, but from the very beginning you need to learn to say “No!”. Otherwise, they will sit on their heads and stop seeing you as the leader of the pack. Do not be afraid to offend someone, because you are using this word appropriately, and not in order to hurt. If you don’t learn, you are not a leader, leave this place and give it to another, more determined and firm person.

As for the comrades, they should not be offended. Of course, at first there will be "misunderstandings", but this does not mean that you need to give up your positions. It is important to be able to explain why "No!". A smart person will understand, a fool will be indignant. If there is one in your team, it is better to get rid of him - let him leave and not violate discipline. If you follow our advice, everything will be fine. There will come a time when colleagues who are confident in you will not ask again why you gave a negative answer.

  1. Never threaten your employee - this is not a method, and besides, it looks mean. Does not want to work or obey - distance yourself.
  2. There is no need to arouse pity in the team, the leader has no right to do so. Categorically do not disclose the small details of your personal life, everyone should know that everything is fine with you. You only need to pour out your soul to a close friend or relative.
  3. Learn to say the word "No" to yourself. Perhaps this is the most difficult for every person. But leaders also have their weaknesses, and if he does not learn to push them to the background, even better, to the third plan - write it down. And besides, satisfy all your desires, then the body will completely relax and be spoiled.
  4. Give up everyone. This includes smoking, drinking, gambling, overeating, etc. There must be complete order in your life and no harmful excesses, otherwise there will be no strength left to control people. And what example are you setting for others? The team wants to be like their leader, but this is a mess!

Be decisive in your decisions

When planning some things, be sure to make a list. Make a diagram, and step by step, according to the plan, get close to the solution. If something doesn't work out, don't get annoyed. You need to calm down, assess the current situation and move on. In this sense, yoga helps a lot. Simple and easy to perform 7 chakras for each day of the week will allow you to put in order the inner world, on which everything depends.

When making a decision, you need to weigh all the pros and cons, think about the consequences, and in different variations.

Strive for your goal no matter what

If you set a goal - do not forget about it, because it is looking forward to you. There is a point to which you need to strive, quickly or slowly, the main thing is to go, and not stand still. You need to understand that it is not she who comes to you, but you must go to her, there is no other way. And, please, forever forget the usual excuses like “I’ll start on Monday”, “I’ll do it tomorrow”, “I’ll wait until summer comes”, etc.

Reassure yourself that everything will work out. If you want to get a good position, prepare mentally for it and convince yourself that no one can do it better than you.

Be responsible

If you want to command, then learn and be responsible for everyone! And if you did something wrong - do not hesitate to admit a mistake. The leader must be honest and open, and in no case should responsibility be shifted onto the shoulders of others. Leadership has both positive and negative consequences. Looking at your dedication, the team will receive a good example and will take their duties just as seriously and responsibly.

A responsible person knows how to correctly distribute obligations between partners. To do this, you need to know the abilities and inclinations of each of the subordinates. Thus, the group will not conflict, and things will go well.

Learn to be an organizer

A leader without a team is not a leader. And if there is misunderstanding, discord in the team, consider that you have not lived up to your title. Learn organizational skills. It is necessary to carefully monitor the behavior of each subordinate, listen, reckon, feel the mood among employees. The leader of the team faces a difficult but solvable task. It is necessary to create an atmosphere in which everyone will be. Moreover, you will have to control this process all the time.

You need to be able to unite, rally people around an idea, business, project, work. And this requires motivation. Don't lead them to a goal that doesn't live up to expectations. No matter how trite it may sound, it should bring moral, physical or financial pleasure, or all together.

When overcoming difficulties, bear hardships together with everyone, do not isolate yourself and do not make yourself a “master” with a bunch of servants. Everyone should do their job, but do it honestly, without blaming the other.

Don't forget about yourself

Yes, on the way to leadership, the character of a person undergoes a lot of changes. But you don’t need to completely remake yourself, stay yourself, unless you undermine your qualities and remove everything superfluous, unnecessary, harmful.

When eliminating negative qualities, write everything down in a notebook. At the end of the day, do an analysis of actions and decisions, think again whether you did the right thing - it's never too late to draw conclusions.

Consult with relatives, friends, relatives. Have them also write down all your shortcomings on a piece of paper. No need to be offended by critics, because they only want the best for you.

Carry out an interesting and effective ritual. On a piece of paper, write down all your shortcomings, obstacles that do not allow you to achieve what you want. No need to think for a long time - reflect on a piece of paper everything that comes to mind. Even if you repeat yourself, it doesn't matter. The main thing is not to hide anything and be honest with yourself. Then crumple and burn the paper, along with the fire, everything bad will go away and the road to the goal will be cleared.

And most importantly - do not forget to pamper yourself sometimes. We are not talking about the need to return to a wild life, addictions, bouts of laziness, etc. Just love yourself, do not give up moments that give pleasure. For example - go to the sea or out of town, relax with your family in the country, fry kebabs, fish, go hunting with friends. Women leaders should not forget about their appearance. She simply has to look stunning, and has no right to neglect. Visit the spa, take care of your skin, hair, be beautiful. Do not refuse to get out with friends in a restaurant, in nature. The only condition is that you do it in your free time. During the week you need to work together with the team, and relax on a well-deserved weekend. And everyone should rest without exception. And if there is a force majeure, a blockage at work, then everyone, without exception, needs to get involved in the matter, especially the team leader.

All for now.
Sincerely, Vyacheslav.

Leader- this is a person who is moving towards his goal, and is able to lead other people along with him. A leader is not born, but made, and you can become one. To do this, you should know what qualities of a leader distinguish him from the rest.

Leader Qualities

1. Having a goal and a vision of the result

The goal is the driving force of the leader, it is the meaning of his existence.

She is his God, a beacon in the impenetrable night, and nothing excites the leader more than achieving the goal.

What the leader does is also important. But the way to achieve the goal, the business that the leader is busy with, does not concern him as much as the vision of the final result.

There are two fundamental attitudes in the head of a leader: for what and with whom.

Leaders know where they are going and how they are going to get there.

2. Self-motivation
25. Maturity

Contrary to popular belief, age is not a measure of maturity.

Young leaders are able to act like seasoned professionals, and many older people can act like teenagers.

Maturity is based on actions that correspond to the behavior of a mature person, which is especially evident in difficult situations.

In addition, your self-confidence and your ability to move forward without excuses are among the most important indicators of maturity.

26. An example for others

Actions mean more than words. People will definitely notice if you are selfless and make every effort to grow your business.

But if you're lazy and don't care how things are, your team will follow suit.

Great leaders always lead by example.

27. Ability to build relationships

It's all about who you know. Leaders need not be reminded that there is much truth in this statement.

You need to understand the value of building long-term relationships in your industry with other people and bet on mutually beneficial partnerships.

Building a collaborative network of valuable people is critical to your long-term success.

28. Social skills

Most often, the leader is charismatic, sociable, friendly and open.

He speaks to people in a calm, respectful and attractive manner.

Just as employees want to work with people they like, so too do customers prefer to shop with people they like.

Therefore, you need to become one of those people if you want to.

29. Public communication skill

Leaders should not have any problem with public speaking.

Situations in which public communication occurs can range from simply speaking at a meeting to pitching a new idea to an audience full of people.

Communication skill not only allows you to effectively convey information to the audience, but also increases your authority as a leader.

30. Honesty and openness

Every year the world becomes more transparent, and there are fewer secrets in it, which is why honesty is the best policy.

People respect those who are able to honestly share information with others and respond calmly to good and bad news.

This is the only way to act according to the situation and timely adjust the plan for moving forward.

31. Ability to listen

To give your team members feedback, support, and attention, you need to make every effort to listen when they share information.

Leaders listen first and then speak.

Listening is more than silence, because you also need to ask the right questions.

32. Devotion

Leaders stay true to their values and relentlessly move towards their goals, despite external pressures that try to change them or make them conform to the usual framework.

Every success story you've heard probably has a downside: long hours of hard work and many failed attempts.

But a leader cannot be stopped just like that, because he has the loyalty to his word, dedication to the cause and long-term focus on his goal.

33. Empathy and compassion

While focusing on your goals, you should also pay attention to the needs and feelings of others.

Goals are achieved not at the expense of other people, but with their help.

After all, the law of the market is: Identify a need and fill it. Everything you do, you do for the end user.

You need to know not only the degree of your influence on people, but also what you need to do to show understanding and empathy towards others.

34. Ability to stand up to others

Most people try to avoid confrontation for fear of controversial issues. But leaders know how to offer an honest and mutually beneficial way to solve a problem.

Solving a problem early on will save you a lot of time, not to mention a headache, compared to leaving it unresolved.

35. Delegation of rights and obligations

As a leader, you should help other people by empowering them to make the right decisions.

Delegating authority is not only about giving your team the freedom to make their own choices, but also about providing all the necessary tools so that the decision made is effective and productive.

36. Negotiation skills

Leaders know how to get what they want and can be very persuasive about it.

To achieve the desired result, they satisfy the needs of others by building trusting relationships.

In settling disputes on major deals, leaders are practical, fair, and firm in the negotiation process.

37. Clarity

Leaders are able to communicate their thoughts clearly in a way that can be easily understood, after which they are convinced that there are no misunderstandings.

This ensures that projects and tasks that are delegated to other people will be completed without errors.

38. Ability to teach others

Leaders must share the methodology and processes that form the basis of their projects with their team members.

If your managers are not well trained, your employees will be just as low, which will negatively affect the bottom line.

The best way to understand something new is to teach it to others.

39. Interest in Feedback

Leaders not only have the quality to impart knowledge, but they themselves value learning and have a willingness to ask for advice.

They are open to feedback and are able to take criticism positively so that they can use it to make necessary adjustments that can benefit their path to success.

40. Trust in your team

This quality of leadership can be questioned, but the credibility of your team depends largely on the people you hire, their propensity to learn, and the work you delegate to them.

It's important for you to trust your team to get the results you want without having to manage every element of your projects.

41. Ability to inspire

It's hard to love all the parts of your job, no matter what you do.

But leaders inspire their team members by letting them know that their work has a huge impact on everything around them, because their work is a way to touch something great.

What do you even understand… Nike is not a sneaker, but a triumph of athletics. Apple does not create electronic devices, but changes the world.

The leader is able to direct others to do what he needs because other people want to do it.

42. Turning Goal into Reality

Not only do leaders have their own goals and their own vision. They have the ability to turn goals into a working strategy that will be adopted by others and eventually implemented.

43. Take the best from others

By understanding what people really want, you can help them perform better by giving them the proper incentive to do their job, and not just by providing material benefits.

To get the best from others, a leader must understand their own motives as well as that of their team, and be positive, generous, and open-minded.

It is important for you to find out what your environment wants for themselves: fame, money, recognition? Develop by developing your people.

As Antoine de Saint-Exupéry wrote: “If you want to build a ship, don’t encourage people to gather wood, divide labor and give orders, instead, first teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.”

44. Reward

A person tends to expect recognition from the people they stick to, so it's important to reward your team members for their contributions, especially when their results stand out from the rest.

Monetary rewards are always appropriate, but a well-thought-out system of various titles and qualifications, and the presentation of personal awards can be no less effective.

45. Ability to act according to circumstances

One of the qualities of a leader is the ability to carefully and quickly evaluate a situation or a person.

Being decisive does not mean making a quick decision, it means making the right decisions at the right time.

In doing so, don't let your determination alienate team members from the process.

46. Conduct effective meetings

Unfortunately, most meetings are never as productive as they are supposed to be.

If you are an entrepreneur, you usually have to interact with people you like, which can be distracting from your workflow.

Effective leadership is the most efficient use of the time allotted for a meeting.

Start with an agenda, eliminate distractions, set start and end times for the meeting.

Encourage everyone to take an active part in the discussion, remind them of the importance of taking notes, and track the effectiveness of the meeting after it ends.

47. Respect for others

When you show respect for other people, it's much easier to build trusting, mutually beneficial relationships.

You must keep your promises, stop gossiping, believe in the ideas of your team members, stand up for them when necessary, and thus truly care for the general well-being.

48. Coaching key people

You should definitely build on the success of your key team members and help them grow within your organization.

In terms of learning, failure is far more rewarding than success. In fact, failure is another step towards success.

Leaders understand that they must operate in an environment of uncertainty and risk, which are an integral part of any business.

61. Intuition

If logical thinking is akin to mathematics, then intuition is rather an art.

Leaders often listen to their intuition.

Leaders are focused on a brighter future, so they want to share their success with those around them: business partners and customers, family and friends, employees and their families, and so on.

Leaders show generosity and gratitude, making a positive impact on the lives of those around them.

Improving other people's lives also means helping them become better people.

Help others grow by helping them reach their potential, both professionally and personally.

Remember to be an example by letting people learn from your experience.

You get more satisfaction from the ability to give than from the ability to receive.

Leaders take pride in helping other people succeed.

73. Energy

Leaders are not only highly energized, but they also know how to use their time effectively.

To energize, you need to stay healthy and active, as well as passionate and positive about your work.

"Private Correspondent"

Being able to be a leader is important for anyone who decides to start their own business or head a division of an organization. For some, this ability is given by nature, and this manifests itself even in childhood - at school, on sports grounds, among peers. It is undoubtedly easier for such children to grow into real leaders in life. However, if nature has not fully endowed you with leadership qualities, this can always be corrected by hard work on yourself.

He adheres to the opinion that everything can always be developed in oneself, the main thing is to have a great desire and perseverance. To know what to strive for, consider the personal qualities of a leader, which he formulated John Maxwell(trainer for personal development, and in particular, leadership). In his opinion, every true leader must harmoniously combine 21 qualities, which will be discussed later.

Hardness

On the life path of every person from time to time there are difficult situations, and in order to make the right decision, it is necessary to show your character. As a rule, it is in such situations that the degree of firmness of character and perseverance is revealed. A person who does not know how to be firm in solving important issues and demonstrates inconstancy will never be followed by other people.

Charisma

Hundreds of books have been written on how to become a charismatic leader. This is a separate part of the general theory about leadership. And it is not for nothing that psychologists pay such attention to this - it is not so easy to develop charismatic qualities in yourself if they are not given to you by nature. Not easy, but quite possible! The opinion that charisma is either there or it is not, and nothing can be done about it, is wrong. Such people themselves block their personal achievements. Charisma is a personal attraction, and in order to develop it in yourself, first of all, you need to learn to love your life and the people who surround you.

Devotion

To captivate people, you must be committed to what you do. Adequate love and commitment to one's work are essential qualities of a leader. Your goal is to make people believe in your common cause, but how will you do this if you yourself do not believe? Loyalty can also be expressed in other, more “down to earth” things: how much time you spend at work, what you sacrifice for it, and how much personal effort you put into achieving the goal.

Sociability

Surely you have noticed that the leader in every team is a sociable, talkative and easy-going person. We do not mean excessive talkativeness, namely sociability. If you want to become a leader, it is essential to develop the skills to communicate with a variety of people. If you have a first-class idea or thought, but you cannot communicate it effectively to others, then how will they know about it? And then the fact that you have some unique idea will absolutely not matter to them.

In general, in order to develop communication skills in yourself, it is important to adhere to the following principles - do not complicate your speech, notice individuality in each person, speak only sincerely and insist on a response.

Awareness

A knowledgeable or competent leader is not just a person who can convey his thoughts to others, but can also develop a plan of action in solving the task; plan what he needs to do himself and what others need to do. A competent leader does not need to persuade people to follow him. When he becomes competent, people themselves want to follow him. Moreover, awareness is one of those qualities that must be constantly proven. Every day you should show this quality in communication with your followers, and you should never stop at the level once reached.

Courage

The courage that lives inside the leader is able to engender this quality in his followers. It is important to remember that when you face a difficult life situation that requires courage, courage and courage, you must first overcome the struggle with yourself. A courageous leader is one who makes not just quick and resourceful decisions, but also the right decisions.

foresight

With this quality, you will be able to find a solution to the current problem and know that in the future it will not entail negative consequences. In order to choose the right way to solve a problem, it is necessary to find out the origins of this problem. Since there is never a single correct solution, it is important to consider all alternatives and choose the most optimal one.

concentration

The effectiveness of a leader is determined by his ability to concentrate on the task at hand. This is where the need for proper prioritization comes into play. To achieve your goal most effectively, you need to know which things require more concentration and which require less. John Maxwell advises focusing on strengths by 70%, weaknesses by 5%, and new, yet undeveloped aspects by 25%.

Generosity

Generosity is a powerful factor in persuasion and leadership. However, here it is important to constantly adhere to one line and be generous always, and not just “on holidays”. Generosity, shown only once, is unlikely to give reason to consider you a truly generous and generous person. A true leader, who is able to captivate people, must act in the interests of his group and each of its individual members, and not just in his own.

Cultivating true generosity in yourself is not a quick process, but when you succeed, you will notice how people will begin to reach out to you. Of course, this is only possible in combination with other leadership qualities that we are talking about in this article. Start with sincere gratitude for what you have, and perceive money not as an end, but as a means.

Initiative

To be successful, you must take action. Moreover, to show not some abstract actions, but quite specific ones. If you stop even for a little, you are already at risk of losing much of what you could have. Moving along a given path, of course, sometimes you will make mistakes, but the main thing is never to stop acting. Be proactive in motivating yourself: do not wait for external incentives, motivate yourself from within. It is also worth looking inside yourself for the reason for the lack of initiative. In everything that is not the way you would like in you, only you yourself are to blame, but not the people around you.

The art of listening and hearing

John Maxwell called this quality art, since such a skill requires a lot of work on oneself. The leader must always build his communication strategy with his followers in such a way that they talk to him not about what the leader wants to hear, but about what he really needs to know in a given situation. If they talk to you only about pleasant things, praising your knowledge and skills, but they are afraid (or do not want to) report troubles or admit their mistakes, then only the illusion of leadership is created.

To hear what the interlocutor (subordinate, partner, client, competitor) really wanted to convey to you, during the conversation open not only your ears, but also your heart. Perception of only the bare facts will not give you a chance to penetrate the very essence of the problem. Learn to read between the lines and understand not only the words of the interlocutor, but also his feelings and emotions.

Passion

What can give a leader the presence of passion? First, it fully develops the willpower of the individual. If you have a strong desire to achieve something, you will always find the strength to do it, even if you have to sacrifice something. Secondly, passion enhances your ability to achieve your intended goal. Thirdly, passion can change the world around you. If you are guided by the passion you have developed for it, and not by any other intentions or feelings, in achieving your goal, you will become a more effective leader.

Passion can erase the word “impossible” from your vocabulary - because if you passionately desire something, then nothing can stop you from achieving your goal.

positive attitude

Every successful person just needs to be constantly charged with positive energy. Positive thoughts and attitudes are an important moment in your development as a successful person. This affects not only your own perception of the world and the people around you, but also how you are perceived by the people around you.

It should be understood that on the path of each person there will be both people who give you flowers and people who throw stones at you. It is important not to allow these stones to spoil your positive attitude towards life. And the most experienced and effective leaders can even turn all the negativity directed in their direction from ill-wishers into positive. It is important to always remember that your attitude in life determines many things that happen to you - from small things to great events.

Ability to overcome current difficulties

In whatever field you work, from time to time you will be overtaken by difficulties and problems that need to be solved. It is impossible to get away from problems, they have always been, are and will be in our lives. The modern world is in constant development and is characterized by an ever-growing complex diversity.

To develop the ability to solve problems, rely on the following: analyze the current situation and predict possible difficulties; accept reality as it is; always consider the whole picture, not its individual fragments; act in order without missing a single step; Don't give up, even when things go wrong.

Ability to get along with people

One way or another, each of us interacts with different people. And the one who aspires to become a leader must have a special attitude towards relationships with surrounding personalities. People will be drawn to you if they enjoy working with you; if you can always get along with them in any situation, even the most uncomfortable ones. The ability to build favorable relationships with people is based on three factors: understanding, sympathy and a desire to help.

Responsibility

It is necessary to remember once and for all: for who you are, what you have and what you do, only you are responsible. Real leaders never shift responsibility to relatives, friends, colleagues, bosses, subordinates. Great success is possible only if you have the ability to take responsibility and with dignity to answer for yourself and your actions in any outcome of the situation.

Self-confidence

If you have somehow taken a leadership position, but there are still traces of self-doubt left inside you, you, as a leader, will only harm your team, but above all, harm yourself. In this scenario, your internal personal shortcomings (uncertainty in your actions) will only intensify, since much will be expected of you as a leader, and you will not be able to show this much. A confident leader is a leader who is able to instill confidence in others; a leader who gives people more than he receives from them; a leader who empowers himself and his followers.

self control

Self-control is one of the foundations of success in achieving your goals. Without self-discipline, you will not be able to get the most out of your abilities and reveal all your skills and talents. To develop the self-control of a leader, you must begin to lead a disciplined lifestyle, and it should concern not only work, but also all other areas of your life. Forget about any excuses for your wrong actions, prioritize and clearly follow the planned plan.

Ability to work for others

It is worth making a reservation right away: this does not mean your position or work duties, but the psychological side of this skill. Paradoxically, learning to truly serve others requires strong self-confidence. Only she is able to allow you to do this without prejudice to adequate pride (which is in every person). A leader who serves others does so of his own free will and puts the interests of others somewhat higher than his own.

Self improvement

A true leader will never be satisfied with what he has already achieved. Even when you have already earned respect from others, your opinion is valued and you can influence people, never stop improving yourself.

If you stop there, you risk losing much of what you have already achieved. Why? The logical chain is simple: 1) the ability to improve yourself defines who you are; 2) who you are determines who and how you can lead; 3) and who you lead is of no small importance in the overall success of your team. To start effective self-study, you need to get rid of excessive pride and narcissism, and admit that you still don’t know and don’t know how to do a lot.

Work for the future

Without this quality, no one can become a leader. Those who want to get everything at once, as a rule, do not get anything and never. Look to the future, concentrate your efforts on what you want and you will definitely succeed!
