Do you need a social educator? Who is a social educator and what does he do at school

We are accustomed to seeing teachers and representatives of the administration (principal, his deputies for education) in the first place. However, in a modern school there are other positions, for example, a psychologist or a social pedagogue. And parents often do not know what their duties are, what questions they can ask them. This article is about what is included in the functions and responsibilities of a social educator in a school.

Who is a school social teacher

This question remains a secret for many parents. So what is a social educator? Let's try to answer it.

Social teacher - this is the person at the school who organizes interaction and unites the efforts of the school, family, community, for support and comprehensive assistance in the development and upbringing of children.

Activities of a social educator at school

The activity of a school social teacher involves interaction with children, studying the age and psychological characteristics of all students, organizing various types of socially useful activities. In addition, the activity of a social educator is aimed at social support for the child and family, assistance and direction of actions of parents and teachers to prevent a negative impact on the development of the personality of difficult children, and, if necessary, helps to implement legal protection. Communication with difficult children requires special tact and professionalism from the teacher.

The social pedagogue is engaged in his educational activities not in the classroom, as a subject teacher, but in school clubs, sections, circles, teams of different ages. Only an extracurricular environment gives him the opportunity to become more familiar with the behavioral characteristics of children (in particular, deviant behavior or the behavior of outsider children). Thus, the teacher identifies students who have difficulty adapting to external conditions of existence, studies the features of their character and behavior, outlines measures and ways to help such children. At present, when cases of alcohol dependence, drug addiction and delinquency among adolescents are quite common, a social teacher must conduct his activities at school.

Functions of a social educator

The functions of a social educator at school is to interact with:

  • children of the "risk group";
  • parents;
  • law enforcement agencies;
  • socially unprotected families of students;
  • the pedagogical team.

The function of a social educator is also to identify students who are busy with work (during school hours). He makes sure that they attend classes, controls the compliance of working conditions with the norms established by law (in particular, regarding wages). The social pedagogue controls the payment of benefits and the implementation of other social benefits that are due to large families (free breakfasts in the school canteen, provision of school uniforms, covering transportation costs).

The task of such a teacher is to engage in research work, identifying the demographic structure of the area, as well as socially disadvantaged families, adolescent children prone to committing offenses, children with health problems. He must organize various charitable events in which orphans and children with disabilities take part.

Not all teenagers are familiar with the norms of social behavior. In these cases, the help of the school and the social pedagogue will come in handy, in particular, in order to acquaint children with their rights, social guarantees, which apply to both education and work. These guarantees include: the provision of wages not lower than the standard of living established by law, the right to receive free education and medical care, and others.

Social pedagogues work in educational institutions: preschool, general education schools, vocational, secondary specialized, higher educational institutions, additional education institutions, orphanages and boarding schools, social and pedagogical centers, services for the protection and protection of childhood and family, career guidance centers , youth organizations, institutions of the system of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and many others.

A social pedagogue is a specialist who organizes educational work with children, youth and adults in various sociocultural environments (family, educational institution, preschool institution, orphanage, shelter, labor collective, additional education institution, etc.) (3).

The tasks of the practical activity of a social pedagogue include a very wide scope of activities from direct work with a child who has problems with socialization in the surrounding society to all social organizations and social institutions involved in the social education of the younger generation.

A social educator works with people from childhood to old age, regardless of their social status, origin, religious beliefs, ethnicity.

Depending on the profile, the place of work of a social pedagogue can be:

    social and pedagogical services of educational institutions in (preschool educational institutions, institutions of additional education, secondary schools, special correctional educational institutions, lyceums, gymnasiums, boarding schools, orphanages, secondary specialized educational institutions, universities);

    social services of specialized institutions (rehabilitation centers, social shelters);

    services of municipal authorities (authority and guardianship authorities, centers for social psychological and pedagogical assistance, departments for social protection of the population, departments for social assistance to families and children).

    The profession of social pedagogue has a number of specializations. Specialization can be determined by the type and type of institution in which the social teacher operates, the needs of a particular society (city, district, village).

According to the profile of activity of a social pedagogue, the following specializations are distinguished:

    social pedagogue for working with families;

    social pedagogue - head of children's associations and organizations;

    social teacher - organizer of cultural and leisure activities, etc.

Currently, only one specialization is distinguished - "social teacher for working with the family."

According to other data, the basis for determining specialization can be a certain category of people for work, with which a social pedagogue is oriented. Accordingly, there are the following specializations:

    social teacher for work with deviant adolescents;

    social pedagogue for work with the disabled;

    social teacher for work with orphans;

    social pedagogue for work with refugees;

    social pedagogue - gerontologist, etc.

In real practice, a social pedagogue does not work with refugees, the unemployed or the elderly. These categories are handled by a social worker.

Specialization may also be related to the place of work. Depending on this, specializations are determined: school social teacher; social pedagogue of an additional education institution; a social teacher in an orphanage, etc. This approach is most typical for the current situation.

Considering the activities of a social educator, first of all, it is worth paying attention to the fact that at present there is a significant misunderstanding of the difference between the functional of a social educator and a social work specialist and a social worker.

A social worker (social work specialist) is a specialist who performs social work as a professional, (…) applying his knowledge and skills for the social service of people with disabilities, families, groups, communities, organizations and society as a whole.

A social educator is a specialist in the organization of social education for the most systematic and purposeful passage of the process of socialization.

The areas of activity of a social educator and a social worker intersect, since the help of both specialists is directed to a person as a member of society. But, it is important to note that the psychological and pedagogical component of activity comes to the fore in the work of a social pedagogue, and the main method for solving problems of interaction and relationships in the “society-man” system is social education.

A social educator is a specialist in organizing the social education of a child and creating conditions for the most systematic and purposeful passage of the socialization process. Ideally, a social educator contributes to the formation of humane relations in the micro-society (family, educational organization, labor collective). The purpose of his activity is the organization of a microsociety for the most optimal passage of the process of positive socialization by the child. But in their direct activities, a social educator often has to combine both the functions of a social educator proper and a social work specialist who is not on the staff of institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Quite often people ask what a social educator is. This is the question that worries many young parents and some teachers. After all, it seems that the teacher is such everywhere. But what does "social" have to do with it? Does this employee have any specific responsibilities in the school that distinguish and distinguish him from the mass of other teachers? A social educator, one might say, is an eternal and incomprehensible mystery for many. Only today we will try to lift the veil of secrecy and figure out what's what. So, let's take a closer look at this important work.

Who it

Of course, a social educator is a teacher. And mostly in schools. But how is he different from an ordinary teacher? Many people think it's nothing. Except for the title. But in reality, it's not like that at all. The thing is that the social teacher at school is a very important employee. Why?

Yes, because, in theory, he should better understand children's behavior and psychology, which helps such an employee to better organize classes. Plus, a social teacher, according to some directors, should be engaged in the worldview and education of students. And it is right. But there are a lot of different tasks for such an employee. And they are, one might say, not limited. Let's try to figure out with you what the work of a social educator with children is. This is not so difficult as it might seem at first glance.

Socialization

The first moment that can only be assumed is social assistance to students. It can be said that a social pedagogue is to some extent a profession that combines the most ordinary teacher and psychologist. Only usually such an employee tries to help the guys in the process of socialization. And adaptation to a new place of study, if the child was transferred for some reason to another school.

To be honest, the activity of a social pedagogue is very well visible in kindergartens and elementary schools. There, kids are taught to communicate with adults, peers, and also teach behavior in society. Without this, it is impossible to imagine a reasonable person.

However, this is not the only duty of such an employee. There are still a lot of them. And do not confuse a psychologist, teacher and social pedagogue. Although all these three professions, interpreted at school, are very similar to each other. Especially regarding some educational moments.

Adaptation

As already mentioned, a social educator sometimes helps new students to adapt to school. And just adaptation (not only newcomers) is another duty of such an employee. And this also applies to employees of the educational institution.

It should also be mentioned that the social educator in the school is obliged to develop concepts that help maintain a favorable environment in the workplace and school. Only in practice this moment is taken into account extremely rarely. Or it is not always possible to bring it to life.

The main problem in creating an atmosphere suitable for learning and working is society. In each educational institution, different personalities come into contact. And if you take into account everyone and everyone (as it should be done), then it is simply impossible to find a "golden mean". Thus, the creation of a favorable atmosphere in the school, as well as assistance in the adaptation of the staff of the institution, as a rule, rests on the shoulders of psychologists. Or even "lower" them.

Upbringing

The work of a social educator includes the responsibility of educating the younger generation. That is, you will have to shape the values and worldview of children. Usually this task is assigned to a kindergarten or elementary school, where it is still very easy to influence kids.

However, in reality, this trend is also extremely rare. After all, often the work of a social teacher in a school consists in "resolving" disputes between children and the banal conduct of a lesson on a particular subject. But sometimes such employees are specially appointed as class teachers - here you will already have to deal with the "education" of schoolchildren, regardless of your desires.

Consultations

An extremely important moment that can only occur is the provision and conduct of consultations. The instruction (job description) of a social pedagogue includes this item. Moreover, you will have to help and advise on various issues.

For example, to give advice to teachers and help them properly organize classes in such a way that they are of interest to students. Or attend parent meetings and talk about the behavior of each student as a whole. In addition, sometimes you will have to replace a child psychologist. Especially when it comes to socialization and adaptation to a new place of study. This is not an adaptation, but rather the establishment of contact with teachers and peers. In such a situation, the social educator is the one who should advise the student and give him advice on communication. Moreover, it is very important to observe the emotional state of the student at this moment.

In fact, it usually turns out that social educators simply conduct classes and attend parent-teacher meetings. Especially when children have problems with behavior or grades. In such cases, teachers are really ready to give advice and recommendations. In most cases, they are efficient and effective.

Organization of events

To be honest, a social educator is not only a teacher. It is also a good organizer. That is, the duties of such an employee include holding and organizing various events. For example, holidays.

It is social educators who should be looking for a suitable venue for the holiday, as well as organize this or that event. Developing a plan, promoting an idea - all this is the responsibility of our today's employee. Usually there are no problems with holidays - it is enough to conduct a survey among teachers, students and parents, and then choose the most suitable place.

The main problem of organizing events arises when they relate to the educational process. That is, the social pedagogue is obliged to take care of carrying out various activities for the training and improvement of teachers, as well as students. Usually outside of school hours. A good worker should not only conduct and organize such a lesson, but also attract the "public" to it.

Employment

There is also another very specific case that concerns our current profession. We are talking about helping with the employment of students. The methods of a social pedagogue, as a rule, should help children choose the most suitable profession for themselves, as well as a convenient place to work and build a career ladder.

But in practice, no one complies with this obligation. Is it really now possible to imagine a student who turns to a social pedagogue for help in finding a job? Of course not. Thus, usually finding a job for a schoolchild is a purely individual task of parents and their children, which in no way relates to social pedagogues.

But there is one small but. Often, such employees conduct special tests for career guidance. The results, in turn, become very good assistants and advisers to young schoolchildren who serve to choose a job. It can be said that a modern social teacher at school provides indirect assistance to children in choosing a profession and finding a job.

Behavior Analysis

A social educator is not only a teacher who combines the skills of an organizer and a consultant. It is also a good analyst. He, as a rule, must monitor the students and analyze their behavior. In case of problems, report to the class teacher and parents. And, of course, give advice on how to fix the problem.

This obligation is rarely met in practice. Indeed, often the most ordinary teachers who conduct lessons in classes report about deviations in behavior. Nevertheless, a professional social educator should be able to start "sounding the alarm" in time, as well as correctly draw conclusions about the child's behavior. Psychology is very helpful in this regard.

If necessary

So we have studied with you the profession of a social teacher. As you can see, his activities are extremely diverse, and his responsibility is enormous. Therefore, you have to think about whether it is worth getting this position.

There is no single answer here. If you have a "soul lies" in the education of children and their upbringing, then you can try. Just be prepared for a busy work schedule, as well as nervous work and a small salary. As a rule, social educators are found among older people.

Young employees are not particularly happy with this place of work. It can be said that over time it begins to become obsolete and loses its relevance. In particular, due to the lack of professional staff. It is understandable - no one will specifically study at a university in order to earn a penny later.

The domestic school has experience in solving the social problems of students. this is the activity of class teachers and head teachers in educational work, who were also assigned the tasks of social work and social pedagogy. But the conditions of life in the country have changed, the attitude towards the teacher, and in the new conditions it has become necessary to solve social problems at a qualitatively new level - professionally. To ensure the effectiveness of such work, the social service of the school needs specialists who are able to solve the problems of diagnostics (sociologist and psychologist) and applied work (social worker and social teacher). There was a need for a special social service of the school. What should ideally be such a service? General management of social activities. school services are carried out by the director through his deputies for social. protection and protection of childhood and educational work. It determines the overall strategy for the activities of the entire social. service, controls and directs the course of its implementation. Social An employee is a person who is called upon to directly perform the functions of a social worker. protection of the rights of the student, the solution of his social. problems, and, if necessary, social teacher protection.

The main function of a school psychologist is to study and diagnose various school problems.

But the social the employee is dealing with the family of a student in need of social services. protection, and psychologist and social. teachers work with parents who have problems in relationships with their child. Only a psychologist diagnoses deviations in relationships, and social. the teacher develops a specific program of action to overcome this shortcoming. The objects of work are more similar for a psychologist and a social worker. teacher, but the main areas of work are different. For example, the object of work is a cool team. The psychologist will have the direction of work - the identification of psychological deviations in the personality of the student, and the social. teacher - organization of leisure activities.

In general, the social pedagogue, uniting with other specialists in the social sphere, becomes the organizer of extracurricular time for schoolchildren, coordinates the work of the ped. a team with difficult children, families, with the surrounding social microenvironment and the community of the microdistrict.

Also, social The teacher works with children in the neighborhood. He draws up a single plan of educational work in the microdistrict and the school, which unites the school and all social. services in solving the general problem of the upbringing and protection of children. (out-of-school children's institutions - yard clubs, art houses, educators of after-school groups, class leaders).

The experiment on the creation of social - ped complexes in Russia began in the 70s. It was a search for new forms of education, involving the whole society in caring for children.

For example, in Sverdlovsk, the territory of the city district that participated in the experiment was divided into microdistricts, which included 2-3 schools. The complex was managed by the Council, which coordinated the work of all enterprises, educational institutions, organizations involved in the upbringing of children. Production teams conducted labor and economic education of schoolchildren, career guidance work. Members of the deputy commission of the district council helped in solving organizational issues. The Komsomol organizations of enterprises were engaged in ideological, political, moral, and labor education. Cultural institutions (Palaces of Culture, cinemas, clubs, libraries) carried out educational work together with the school. Teachers and students of universities were engaged in the creation and preparation of ped. detachments. Employees of hospitals and clinics provided medical assistance, engaged in medical education, and promoted a healthy lifestyle. The military registration and enlistment office attracted reserve officers, demobilized soldiers to work in the complex, who prepared teenagers for military service, held military sports games - "Zarnitsa", "Eaglet". Housing and communal administrations participated in the creation of the material base for educational work with children at the place of residence, in clubs, children's and sports grounds. Employees of the traffic police, the fire department, the department for work with juvenile offenders were involved. The work of the complex gave good results.

Teachers of the 59th school in Yaroslavl went in a different direction. The school has 50-60 classes - 1600-188 children. The school has 8 deputy directors, 25 social workers. teachers, 17 additional teachers. Education, 3 psychologists, 3 teachers-organizers. The goal is to turn the school into an educational center. Social The complex service consists of several divisions:

Territorial social. service provided by “street social educators”;

Intra-school service of social care for children (class leaders, educators of extended day groups, organizers of extracurricular activities);

Psychological service (psychologists, speech therapists);

Honey. service (doctor, nurses).
