Bulgarian is very similar to Russian and other Slavic languages. About 9 million people speak this language, and Cyrillic is used in writing. In Bulgarian, many words are similar in sound to Russian, but in meaning they will be different. In Russian, “bride”, and in Bulgarian, “bun”, “awesome” will sound like “fearful”, “cruel” will not always mean “ruthless”, but is used in the sense of “cool”, “flock” is not a bird, and “room”, well, the word “right” often causes a misunderstanding, since in Bulgarian it sounds like “straight”, so be careful when asking for directions.
In the Bulgarian language, the particle “whether” is always used in the question (Would you like tea?, Is it for Natasha?). This is a mandatory form in the language, otherwise you may not be understood if you want to ask something.

Basic phrases in Bulgarian for tourists: at the airport, at the hotel, at the bank, etc. - a short conversation.
Before moving on to the very phrases that will be useful for tourists in Bulgaria, let's first see why this country has become so popular with our citizens.
Bulgaria was not always the way we know it now - a beautiful and inexpensive country for tourists from all over Europe. Previously, the territory of present-day Bulgaria passed from the power of one empire to another, until the end of the 20th century.
A bit of history...
Several thousand years ago, the territory of modern Bulgaria was inhabited by the most ancient Thracian tribes. Around the 5th c. BC. the ancient Greeks founded their northernmost province, whose name is Thrace*.
* - the historical region of Thrace at the present time has the Bulgarian, Greek and Turkish parts, respectively.
Later, the ancient Romans became interested in Thrace, which resulted in the annexation of Thrace to the Roman Empire. After the division of Rome, Thrace remained in the Eastern Roman Empire.
Then there was the era of the so-called. The Great Migration of Peoples, in which the first mention of the Bulgarian state arose - Great Bulgaria. This state of nomadic tribes occupied a vast territory, but did not last long and broke up into several parts, one of which was the territory of modern Bulgaria. The ancient Bulgarian state was formed in 681 AD. e. Turkic** tribes of the Proto-Bulgarians, who came to the territory from the Lower Danube to the Balkan Mountains, displacing the local Slavic** tribes from here and partially assimilating them.
** - Bulgarian belongs to the Slavic languages, but has many words of Turkic origin
In the Middle Ages, starting in 1393, Bulgaria fell under the rule of the Ottoman Turks for more than 500 years. During this time, the country was repeatedly subjected to colossal destruction. But, despite the oppression of the conquerors for centuries, Bulgaria was able to revive its independence - this happened in 1878.
After the Second World War, the country fell under the influence of the Eastern Communist Bloc, and only in 1989 Bulgaria finally gained the independence it had always aspired to. Today, the country is developing, carrying out reforms that help stabilize the economy and attract foreign investment, including in the tourism sector. Why has the tourism industry become so popular?
A bit of geography...
Bulgaria is an extraordinary country with a temperate climate combined with breathtaking nature. Incredibly, such a diverse terrain is found in such a relatively small area - high and low mountains, beautiful gorges, fertile valleys, the Black Sea coast. In this regard, Bulgaria is attractive for tourists almost all year round - beach, ski or rural eco-tourism is always relevant in this small European country.
Bulgaria lies in two climatic zones: Mediterranean and continental.
Mountains have a major impact on climate diversity. For example, in the northern part of Bulgaria, on average, it is one degree colder than in the south. In addition, the northern part receives more rainfall. The Black Sea affects only the coastal zone.
Due to its temperate mild climate, white sands, warm sea and mesmerizing landscapes, Bulgaria attracts many tourists throughout almost the entire year. More than 10 million people visit the country every year, which far exceeds the local population.
Bulgaria is known for its ski, Black Sea and spa resorts. Famous resorts where you can soak up the sun include: Balchik, Sunny Beach, Pomorie, Albena, Sozopol, St. Vlas. Nearby are the airports of Varna and Burgas.
If you decide to choose Bulgaria as your next tourist destination, a small Bulgarian language phrase book for tourists (despite the fact that English was and is the main international language of communication) will not hurt.

Today, August 22, 2019, tourists from Bulgaria, a man and a woman, using the entertainment "flying by parachute behind a boat on a rope" broke away from the boat and flew on an uncontrolled parachute at high altitude towards the forest and mountains!!! Miraculously, they fell and did not crash, they remained alive! Bruises and abrasions... The cable came off the boat! And if there were children on this "walk"? No one here monitors the quality of the equipment when providing these extreme services. It was in Sozopol, the boat took away those who wanted to "fly" from the Kavatsi beach. Then they flew for a long time ... fortunately there was a wind ... without wind, the parachute would have folded at a height and they would have collapsed to the ground like a stone ...

I rested with my daughter in Balchik in August. I was struck by the dishonesty of the local population. Everywhere they hang out, the waiters are boors, they immediately take 1 or 2 leos from the building, the bill, of course, they always round up. give change 1leo. In shops, buses, everywhere change is given incorrectly.

The sea is gentle. The air is very warm. We speak Russian. The food is delicious. Fruits and vegetables are ripe and juicy. Pure pleasure! Rest costs the amount that you live at home for the same period, but all products are real and of high quality. For lovers of jamon and parmesan - expanse! They do exist! At pre-crisis prices, which is amazing! Recommend!

I visited Bulgaria for the first time. Of course, Bulgaria cannot be compared with the beauty of exotic islands such as the Canaries or Madeira, for such money the rest is quite acceptable. Bulgarians are hospitable people, and this is reflected both in the service and in the general atmosphere at the resort and at the hotel. I was in Bulgaria in September, there were few tourists, I was able to enjoy the tranquility and the warm sea.

A friend advised me to go to Bulgaria. She said that the Bulgarians are temperamental men, you won’t be left without a romance. I wanted to see this miracle. Didn't regret it. The holiday was great, made a lot of friends. I advise you to go to Bulgaria in June, I liked it in June, not so hot and not so many people on the beach.

First, some features of the language. You need to know them in order to read the phrases below correctly.
In Bulgarian, the letter "u" is read as "shte". The letter "b" in most cases is read as a short "s". The letter "e" in most cases is read as "e".
