Qiqihar University was founded in 1952 in the birthplace of the Manchurian crane, the city of Qiqihar, and is located on the shores of Lake Laodonghu.

It is the only universal general education institution of higher education in the western part of Heilongjiang Province. Qiqihar City has an ideal environment for learning Mandarin Chinese - Putonghua, which is the official language in the People's Republic of China, Taiwan and Singapore. The university has more than half a century of history, being the largest university representing general higher education, higher professional and technical education in full-time, part-time and evening forms of study, as well as postgraduate and doctoral studies.

"Round Lake University", as Qiqihar University is informally called, covers a vast area, forming an independent student city, landscaped and decorated, for which it was awarded the title of "Flower Garden University" and the title of "Exemplary Provincial University" by the Heilongjiang Provincial Committee of the CCP and the People's Government Heilongjiang province.

Qiqihar is a 12-hour train ride from Beijing, the capital of China, and a 3-hour train ride from Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province. Qiqihar University helps those who wish to organize an exciting and inexpensive trip to the main cultural centers of China: to see the Great Wall of China, as well as to get acquainted with the cultural heritage of the Russian-speaking emigration in Harbin.

The university has become the most important center for the training of qualified specialists and the center of communication of graduates with the areas of business, production and government agencies. The teaching staff is 1427 people, more than thirty thousand students study at the university. The university offers students from Ukraine education at the Institute of International Communications in the specialty "Chinese Philologist" with a bachelor's degree. The form of education was borrowed from the British and built on the same principle as in higher educational institutions in the UK.

The training is conducted by Chinese teachers who speak Russian. In the process of learning, students master writing, listening, hieroglyphics, study the history, culture, and economy of China. In addition, additional classes in English and calligraphy have been introduced this year.
