Road statistics in the world. The best and worst roads in the world (10 photos)

Russia is gradually improving its position in the ranking of countries in terms of road quality. The next list according to the Global Competitiveness Index 2017-2018, which included 137 states, is presented on the WEF (World Economic Forum) website. Our country is now on the 114th line, while at the end of 2015 it occupied only the 123rd position, and in 2012 it was almost at the very tail (on the 136th place).

To find out about the quality of roads, a survey was conducted among business representatives who were asked to answer the question “How would you rate the quality of roads in your country?”. At the same time, quality was proposed to be assessed on a scale from 1 to 7, where the minimum value suggests the answer “extremely underdeveloped / among the worst in the world”, and the maximum - “extremely developed / among the best in the world”.

Russia, according to the results of the survey, received a total score of 2.9 (). Judging by the report published on the WEF website, over the entire period of such polls, Russia has only improved its position. From year to year, the indicator of businessmen's assessment of the roads of the Russian Federation is growing. In contrast to the rating outsider - Mauritania, whose "curve" is gradually moving down. Now this country is in the lead in the list of the states with the most low-quality roads.

It remains unclear exactly how survey participants rated the roads. What roads were discussed: federal, regional, municipal? About the entire road network as a whole? It is also important which regions of the country the respondents visited, because the situation can be very different from subject to subject of the Russian Federation.

If we assume that Russian businessmen, when answering, are guided mainly by the state of federal highways, then it is not surprising that in recent years they have noted an improvement in the quality of roads: the task of bringing them into a standard state was set at the highest level. Now the government has also taken up regional highways (), and the authorities of the subjects have begun to use road funds more actively.

The rating gives an answer to the question of which countries should be equal in terms of road quality. The top ten includes the United Arab Emirates (6.4), Singapore (6.3), Switzerland (6.3), Hong Kong (6.2), the Netherlands (6.1), Japan (6.1), France ( 6.0), Portugal (6.0), Austria (6.0) and the United States of America (5.7).

Gradually, Russia adopts foreign experience in the construction, repair and maintenance of roads. Not so long ago, it appeared in our country (in the Murmansk region): the idea was borrowed from Norway (in the ranking it is in 58th place with an indicator of 4.3 points). Presumably the bright lines should be more visible on the tracks in the winter when the roads are hidden under the snow.

The World Economic Forum has published a rating of the quality of roads in the world. Russia is not in the top twenty of the worst, but it is far from the leaders either. 360 spoke with the coordinator of the Blue Buckets society, Petr Shkumatov, about what prevents our country from entering the top of the most pleasant territories for traveling by car.

According to the Global Competitiveness Index, Russia ranks 114th in terms of road quality. Our closest neighbors are Benin and Kazakhstan. The good news is that the organization's experts noted a trend towards improving the condition of Russian roads. Last year, in the same ranking, Russia ranked 123rd.

The list is closed by Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Haiti. It is most pleasant to drive a car in the United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Switzerland. The birthplace of the autobahn - Germany - took 15th place.

Pyotr Shkumatov, coordinator of the Blue Buckets Society, believes that roads in Russia have indeed become better recently, although they are still far from perfect. Only certain sections of toll roads are in really excellent condition.

Unfortunately, in our country there are only two thousand kilometers of roads that can fit the concept of modern highways - these are highways

Petr ShkumatovCoordinator of the Blue Buckets Society.

At the moment, according to Shkumatov, we are in a transitional period: we almost never had good roads. Now we have just begun to lay good asphalt, after a while we will learn how to build good roads, and then we will start building roads as efficiently as possible. But the expert finds it difficult to name the time when this will become possible. Especially if to accept into account the traffic situation in the Kirov region.

Petr Shkumatov also explained why the UAE ranked first in the road quality ranking. “There are two factors. The first is the desert. They have a solid foundation, that is, they can asphalt the desert directly, and the road will not fail anywhere. But Russia stands on clay, and it is more difficult to build roads here, because sometimes you have to dig even 10 meters to a solid foundation so that the road does not fail. It is difficult to compare the United Arab Emirates and us, because their road construction is not construction as such,” he said.

“It is more difficult to build roads in Russia, but this does not mean that we cannot build them,” the expert emphasized. As an example, he cited the recently opened section of the M1 Belarus highway. It took only two years to build it. The Crimean bridge, which was built in just two years, was also highly appreciated. “There is a colossal autobahn, incredible in quality,” Shkumatov added.

According to the interlocutor of "360", one of the reasons for the problems with the roads is outdated GOSTs. “That is, even if you want to build a good modern road, you will not be able to do it, because you will have to comply with them,” said Petr Shkumatov. Immediately after the standards that do not correspond to today's reality, there is a poor quality of building materials. The experience of countries with natural conditions similar to ours - Switzerland and Holland - shows that we can have good roads.

Things have gotten a lot better in the last 10 years. That is, if earlier the roads were one, now they are three

Petr ShkumatovCoordinator of the Blue Buckets Society

Now in Russia there are modern roads, the example of which shows that it is possible to build quickly and efficiently. An example is the roads built by Avtodor.

But modern technologies alone are not enough: when building roads, another problem often arises - high prices for land for construction. The fact is that some people have time to hurry up and buy out the plots along which the road will pass. Then comes the moment of construction, and the road builders are forced to buy these plots at a price that is several dozen times overpriced. “This problem really slows down the entire road topic in our country,” the 360 interlocutor is sure.

As an example, Shkumatov cited the fate of the road bypassing Losevo and Pavlovsk on the M4 Don highway. “In 2011, they wanted to build it, in 2013 they started designing it, and they started actually building it only in 2017 due to problems with land plots. It turned out that the land on which the road should pass was until recently state-owned, but turned out to be private. Relatively speaking, it takes two years to build the road, and preparation for its construction takes six years,” Shkumatov concluded.

Good roads wait 5 years

Every government promises Ukrainians good roads. At presentations and press conferences, journalists are shown beautiful developments, told about plans and promised that in the near future domestic roads will be at least as good as those of their neighbors. But the reality is very different from the pictures of officials. Even in the capital, on many streets, the asphalt came off along with the snow.

The current government also promises good roads to Ukrainians. True, not immediately, but after a few years. In the meantime, will cost current repairs. Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan said that the two main roads Kyiv-Odessa and Kyiv-Chop will be patched up before the beginning of May. He clarified that it is not yet about a major overhaul, but about the current one.

Experts from the World Economic Forum drove the roads of 144 countries to choose the best ones. Unfortunately, out of 144 possible places, Russia took only 136th position in the final list. Our neighbors are Ukraine and the Central African Republic of Gabon.

By the way, The roads of Moldova were recognized as the most terrible. Well, we bring to your attention the top ten countries that topped the rating of countries in terms of road quality.

The last place in the top ten can be explained by the fact that most of the German autobahns are over 30 years old. By the way, the Germans have been using the latest laser scanning technology to check the condition of roads since this year.

9. Finland

Maintaining the quality of roads in a country where winter temperatures drop to minus 40 degrees every year is not an easy task. To detect hidden defects that can eventually destroy the coating, the Finns use thermal imaging cameras.

8. Hong Kong

This small Asian state boasts the highest level of infrastructure development, including transport. Hong Kong spares no expense to build and maintain the quality of roads, believing that the transport network plays an important role in the attractiveness of the region for investors.

7. Austria

Most of all, the Austrian road builders are troubled by the high-mountainous alpine areas, which fall into disrepair faster than others. However, the responsible services cope with their task successfully - the roads in Austria are of the highest quality.

6. Switzerland

In order to maintain the excellent quality of the road surface, Swiss roads have been made toll. When entering the country, you must purchase a vignette. Passage through some tunnels is paid additionally, because the maintenance of the road laid through the mountain requires a lot of money.

5. Oman

Expensive cars of oil princes and their subjects should drive on good roads. This rule has been followed in Oman for several decades. No funds are spared for the development of the road network in the country.

4. Portugal

Even 25 years ago, the quality of the road surface in the country terrified both locals and tourists. However, today in Portugal, even the tiniest villages can boast of excellent roads, not to mention national trails.

3. Singapore

The level of development of engineering and construction technologies in the country deserves special praise. The road construction industry was no exception. Huge amounts of money are allocated for laying and repairing roads in Singapore, which allows maintaining the highest quality, despite the intensity of traffic.

2. UAE

The construction of roads in the Emirates is carried out according to technologies borrowed from the Germans, in addition, almost all highways in the country are well lit at night. The country also loves numerous multi-level roundabouts, for the design and construction of which the best engineers from all over the world are involved.

1. France

The excellent quality of the coating, the availability of lighting at night, the abundance of service stations - all this makes the roads of France the best in the world. Moreover, experts note that the quality of paid and free roads is practically the same.

Experts from the World Economic Forum published a large-scale report in which they presented a study of the economies of the countries of the world, as well as called the states with the worst and best roads. In total, 137 countries were included in the list. The quality of roads in them was evaluated on a scale from one to seven, where “one” is the most negative indicator, and “seven” is the best result. It is noteworthy that none of the states scored the highest score, but some turned out to be very close to the designated “ideal”.

So, in the top ten leaders were the United Arab Emirates (6.4 points), Singapore (6.3 points), Switzerland (6.3 points), Hong Kong (6.2 points), the Netherlands (6.1 points), Japan (6.1 points), France (six points), Portugal (six points), Austria (six points) and the United States (5.7 points).

UAE

Taiwan and China (shared 11th place), Korea, Denmark, Oman, Germany, Spain, Qatar, Sweden, Croatia and Luxembourg were in the second ten excellent students.

Russia also made it to the list, but ended up only in 114th place, with only 2.9 points.

Thus, Russia has overtaken in this indicator such countries as Kazakhstan (2.9 points), Zimbabwe (2.8), Malawi (2.8), Nepal (2.8), Venezuela (2.8), Romania (2.8). .7), Lebanon (2.7), Kyrgyzstan (2.7), Costa Rica (2.6), Chad (2.6), Lesotho (2.6), Cameroon (2.6), Nigeria (2 .5), Moldova (2.5), Mozambique (2.5), Ukraine (2.4), Paraguay (2.4), Yemen (2.3), Guinea (2.2), Madagascar (2, 2), Haiti (2.1), Congo (2.1) and Mauritania (2.0).

At the same time, its authors note a trend towards a general improvement in the quality of Russian roads. Let us explain that the road quality parameter was obtained by the experts by compiling the general Global competitiveness index of countries 2017-2018- According to this indicator, Russia took 38th place out of 137.

“The Russian Federation has shown improvement in five areas, mainly due to the macroeconomic climate, and is actively emerging from the 2015-2016 recession,” the study says. - However, the country's economy is still heavily dependent on the export of minerals, and its prospects remain uncertain. Weak links include the financial market, in particular the banking sector, as well as the quality of a number of institutions, such as property rights, the independence of the judiciary. At the same time, corruption remains one of the most problematic factors for doing business in Russia. Russia has adopted new laws to increase the minimum wage (2015) and protect temporary employment (2016), which has reduced labor market flexibility. However, in the end, this may bring a positive effect due to the restoration of domestic purchasing power, which was negatively affected by inflation and a weak ruble.”

What is repaired and repaired on the roads of Russia

According to Rosavtodor, in 2017, more than 39,000 km or 77.96% of the total length of federal highways were brought into the regulatory state in Russia. In particular, on the territory of the Moscow transport hub, the construction and reconstruction of sections of the Moscow Big Ring, the M-8 Kholmogory highway, including those on the bypass of the village. Tarasovka and others.

In the North-West, the construction and reconstruction of sections of federal highways with a total length of almost 40 km, including the first stage of construction of a 12.4 km long bypass of the city of Gatchina on the federal highway R-23 St. Petersburg - Pskov - to the border with Belarus, the first the stage of construction of the Sosnovo-Varshko section with a length of 15.9 km on the federal highway A-121 "Sortavala" and others.

In order to improve the conditions for international transportation, sections of approaches to the state border of the Russian Federation with the Kingdom of Norway were put into operation on the federal highway R-21 "Kola" with a length of 16.7 km in the Murmansk region and with the Republic of Latvia on the federal highway M-9 " Baltiya” with a length of 4.5 km in the Pskov region.

On the territory of the Far Eastern Federal District, the construction and reconstruction of sections of the Lena, Kolyma, Ussuri and other federal highways with a total length of 85.5 km has been completed.

In 2018, road builders plan to increase the share of the length of roads that meet regulatory requirements to 82.8% of the total length.

To this end, for example, it is planned to put into operation 275.7 km of federal highways after construction and reconstruction, which will exceed the level of 2017 by 19.5%. In addition to the transport crossing through the Kerch Strait, it is planned to ensure the phased creation of a modern road route in the direction of Krasnodar - Novorossiysk - Kerch, to build a number of city bypasses, intersections at different levels with railway tracks in the busiest directions, to complete construction and reconstruction of transport interchanges at different levels on the M-7 Volga highway in Balashikha, Moscow Region, and so on.

The most "cork" countries

It should be noted that studies on quality, as well as road congestion, are regularly carried out by various organizations and institutions. So, in 2017, the research company INRIX, which specializes in traffic information services and services for drivers, compiled . As part of the annual analytical study Global Traffic Scorecard, INRIX specialists studied the situation on the roads in 1064 cities in 38 countries of the world and, taking into account the average number of hours spent by drivers in traffic jams per year, identified leaders and outsiders. The 2015 leader in this indicator, the United States, was moved from first place to fourth thanks to the addition of South America and Asia to the ranking. Thus, American drivers on average spent more than a whole working week in traffic jams - 42 hours. Thailand became the country with the busiest roads in the world - here drivers lost 61 hours in peak traffic jams. In second place is Colombia (47 hours), and in third is Indonesia (47 hours). Russia is tied for fourth place with the US - Russian drivers also spend an average of 42 hours a year in traffic jams. The UK came in 11th (32 hours) and Germany 12th (30 hours). The authors of the study said that this time for the first time they analyzed the situation on the roads in more than a hundred Russian cities.
