Biographies Characteristics Analysis

You can get into the theater. How to enter the theater institute (university, college)? The path to a successful career: a step-by-step plan of action

The question of how to enter a theater university is more often of concern to girls, therefore, during the entrance auditions, it turns out that up to 200 people apply for one place. There are much fewer young men who want to become actors, most likely due to less emotionality and a penchant for acting. The leading teacher of the future course almost always recruits girls and boys equally, so it is easier for young people to enter.

To begin with, let us explain how the word "school" in relation to a theatrical institution does not always mean specialized secondary education. Much more often a school in this environment is called an institute, therefore, when doing, always pay attention to the full name of the institution. If you decide to devote yourself to the acting profession after the 9th grade, then look for an institution that really is a school. And the famous "Shchukinskoye" or "Schepkinskoye" are institutions.

How to prepare for admission

How to prepare for the delivery of general education subjects, teachers at school will tell you. Your personal task is to prepare and successfully pass the creative competition. It includes the reading of a fable, a poem, a prose passage, the performance of a song, a dance. Some theatrical universities are asked to show plastic compositions, elements of acrobatics. You need to be ready for any task.

Start by choosing books to read. All literary passages are selected not in terms of brightness and popularity, you need to choose what is right for you. If you are a flamboyant and impulsive person, then it is better to read an excerpt from Pippi Longstocking, and not pretend to be Katerina from The Thunderstorm. And it is best to prepare a few fables, poems and prose passages, as something specific may not please the commission, and you will be asked to read another work, which happens very often. Also prepare a few dances and songs.

To enter the theater school, it is also important to learn how to show sketches. An etude is a small sketch on a given topic, which, as a rule, is determined by the examiners. For example, you will be asked to show how you missed the train, how you received a letter with the news of admission to the theater institute, how you tore your favorite dress. Try to identify a few of these topics for yourself at home and rehearse the etudes. The main thing is to develop the ability to quickly and accurately respond to the proposed circumstances, to include sincere emotions, not to play.

  • Start preparing not a month before the exams, not even six months. A year is the most optimal period for searching, disassembling material, for rehearsals.
  • Find a person who is a professional and has already helped more than one beginner to enter a theater university. An experienced actor or director will charge you a certain amount for their lessons, but you need them to greatly increase the chances of successfully passing creative tests.
  • If there is a theater university in your city, then preparatory courses will work with it. Be sure to sign up for them and prove yourself in the classroom as a bright and energetic applicant.
  • To enter a theater institute, you need to read a lot of literature on the history of the theater - this knowledge will be useful to you at the colloquium, which is arranged before creative tours in many universities. In addition, you will need to provide the results of the Unified State Examination in Russian Language and Literature.

1. It is necessary to start preparing not the day before and not a month in advance, but certainly a year, if not two, before the intended attempt. A hastily learned text is not what the commission needs. You are not asked to demonstrate memory, but the ability to appropriate the text, make it your own, analyze and visualize the analyzed :)) According to the acting (professional) take, it takes at least 2 weeks to shrink the parsed text in your head. This is after all the rehearsals, showdowns and so on. 2 weeks of pure existence time in this text for a professional. But you're not a professional yet, are you?

2. It is best to prepare with a tutor, i.e. with a person who knows what it is - theater. It is best to try to find a theater teacher as a tutor. Just because they know how to explain what is required, because every day they do it with their students. The cost of such classes in Moscow is from 20 to 40 dollars for 2 hours. According to those who used the services of tutors, private lessons really give a lot of new things, reaching literal revelations. Just remember: NEVER ADMIT AT A COMMISSION THAT YOU DO THEATER anywhere or with anyone :))

3. You can also prepare at preparatory courses, which are usually available at every theater university (at least in Moscow). Typically, courses last from a month to three, classes one or two days a week. Again, according to the reviews of those who tried it, the best preparatory courses in Moscow are the courses at the Shchukin School. They last 3 months, classes are held on weekends, two couples a day. The principles of stage speech, the basics of acting, rhythm are studied, and lectures are given on the history of the theater. The latter is not found anywhere in Moscow, and the department of theater history in Shchuk is the strongest among other universities (IMHO, of course). The cost of the courses is about 3500 rubles (data for 2003). At the Moscow Art Theater School, courses last a month and cost about $50. You have to enroll in courses, i.e. go through something like an audition. However, the selection there is much less strict, completely unsuitable comrades are weeded out. Classes in the courses are held in a group, therefore they are inferior in quality and richness to classes with a private teacher. Although it is useful to combine the teacher and courses. At the courses, you have the opportunity to find out the general level of those who will enter this year (as they say, look at others and show yourself), get to know the teachers of a particular school and the requirements that apply to applicants.

4. Self-education is mandatory. You have to read a lot and hard. Here, knowledge of the school curriculum is not enough. Here you need to comprehend it. :)) In addition, you need knowledge of the works of Stanislavsky, Chekhov (and your own opinion on this matter), read more on the history of theater and literature. You are still entering a creative university, and not at a machine factory :)). An actor cannot be stupid and uneducated.

If you do not have the opportunity to use the services of tutors and courses. It's hard, of course. But, in the end, statistics say that our biggest stars are residents of just the provinces. Usually they also, having reached the zenith of fame, nevertheless admit that they participated in amateur performances or attended a theater studio :)). As for my personal opinion, it seems highly doubtful that one can enter a theater school without having ever dealt with the stage before. Perhaps the teachers of theatrical universities are right in some way, fearing graduates of amateur theatrical studios ... For, of course, there is a great chance that you will get a good stamp there. But after all, you have been given a head not to stamp, but to work on yourself. None of the normal directors of theater studios tolerates or likes clichés. Exactly the same as the venerable theatrical figures. According to my observations, the presence or absence of a stamp depends only on the personality of the actor. Some buy into the first applause they get after reading the verse on the New Year tree in the 5th grade - and now they continue to read further in the same way as before Santa Claus, like - I'm already smart, I know how to play :)). Others do not perceive awards at festivals and competitions as the limit of their capabilities, but carefully analyze their videos, read, think, polish their technique and speech.

6. About completely independent work (it is also the most important). Remember, you can’t do theater on a schedule. Either they do it all the time, or they don't do it at all. Those. in your head there should be continuous work on passages, on the accumulation of factual material, observation of those around you. All drag in "your piggy bank" of acting experience.

The practice of all admissions committees in all theatrical universities in Russia and the world of all times shows the same general sad trend: almost the majority of applicants do not understand where they are going to study, what exactly they will do and why they need it. This is especially true for girls aged 16-30, who make up the main stream of those who want to study at the acting department. If you really want to enter a theater university in Moscow, let's start with a sober assessment of your abilities and prospects.

Ask yourself, do you know where you are going? What, in essence, do you know about the backstage side of the theater, and what caused your desire to connect your life with it? If the answers to these questions are ambiguous for you, maybe you should think it over again?

  • Have you ever been to the theater on the other side of the wings?
  • Have you ever attended a play rehearsal?
  • Have you taken part in at least one serious production?
  • Do you have a good idea what an actor does when he is not playing on stage, that is, 90% of his working time?

If the word “no” prevails among the answers, then you are taking a step into the unknown. This step can cost you a lot (preparation for admission to a theater university, admission itself, the cost of studying, etc.), take a lot of time and never bring any results. In addition to the fact that 200–300 people apply for one place at the acting department of an average metropolitan university, no one will guarantee that upon graduation you will become an artist. It all depends on how sick you are with the theater, the acting profession and what you are ready to put on this altar of art.

Selection criteria for the acting department

There are general regulatory requirements for university applicants, such as minimum education, citizenship, sometimes age, etc. We will not go into these in detail, instead we will talk about what the admissions committee pays attention to.

  • Appearance. This is not decisive, but a very important indicator. The actor must have a bright textured appearance, a zest that makes his facial expression or facial expressions memorable. Considerable importance is attached to the figure: usually girls are asked to come to the audition in a medium-length skirt and heels.
  • Plasticity and rhythm. The body is the main tool of the actor, and despite the fact that acting classes teach how to use it, possession of the body is welcomed already at the stage of passing the entrance exam. One can not even mention the sense of rhythm, an actor without it is not an actor.
  • Voice and speech. Speech defects, unpleasant timbre, weak voice - all this can be regarded as professional unsuitability of the applicant. Even if the defects are correctable, and the voice may well open up thanks to simple exercises, the stage speech teacher is not a speech therapist, and he will not have time to set up sounds for individual students.
  • expressiveness. This is a collective term, by which we mean all acting professional qualities at once. The ability to broadcast visions, infect the viewer with their emotions, attract and hold attention, and so on. Evaluated by a creative exam (etude, monologue, excerpt from prose, fable, poem).

Preparation for admission

To enter the theater institute, you need to prepare (in addition to the exam) in two areas: a creative exam and an interview (colloquium). The creative exam includes:

  • reading is usually a monologue, a poem, a fable and an excerpt from prose;
  • acting skills - an etude on a free topic, independent or with the participation of several people;
  • dance and vocals - separately dance and song numbers.

The skill of the actor is a priority area of the creative exam. Excerpts from literary works, song and dance must also be presented in an actor's vein. The examination committee will evaluate not so much your diction, plasticity and vocal abilities as the playful presentation of the works.

A colloquium is an interview at which the applicant is asked questions about the history of the theater, the theory of acting, art criticism, and also gets acquainted with it. This is a cross between an oral examination for erudition, knowledge of the subject and a job interview. Teachers will certainly ask about the reasons for choosing the acting profession, about the goals that you pursue when entering the course, about past theatrical experience, etc.

Never tell the examiners about what you did in theater studios, participated in amateur performances, etc. Teachers are afraid of stamps like fire, and all stamps, in their opinion, come from non-professional theater.

As part of the general education program, in order to enter the theater, you need to pass the Russian language and literature without fail. Without these items in the USE assessment sheet, your documents will not be accepted at the selected university.

The exam takes place in three rounds. At each round, the examination committee listens (or views) a part of the program prepared by you. In what order this will happen depends on the university. At each round, a certain part of the applicants is eliminated, the competition becomes tougher, the requirements are stricter. You should expect a huge queue, a crazy flow of people, an exhausted commission and a strictly allotted time in which you will have to fit the best moments of your creative program.

Choose the material so as not to waste time. Too long prefaces and opening speeches can lead to the fact that you are simply stopped.

Ignore the reaction that your performance provokes (and most likely it will not provoke any reaction at all). Expect surprises from the commission. If one of the examiners is interested in your performance, he can give you an arbitrary improvisation exercise. For example, the circumstances for the study. The main thing here is not to get confused, not to give up, but to instantly join the proposed study and exist in it until you are stopped.

Which university in Moscow is easier to enter

It is very difficult to enter any theater university in Moscow due to the extremely high number of applicants. Objectively, the most chances are where there are the fewest applicants for a place, and these figures vary from year to year. The best thing to do is to apply to several theater universities at once, thereby seriously increasing the chances of passing the competition in any one. In the face of such fierce competition, it is more likely that educational institutions choose their students than students choose their places of study. Approach your preparation responsibly: in the end, your success will be 90% dependent on how you present yourself during the creative exam and how you endure the colloquium.

Entering the theater institute for many modern applicants is a dream. The first stage of preparation is an acting school at a specialized university. Statistics show that most of the applicants are girls under the age of 30. Among the most popular schools are GITIS, Moscow Art Theater, Shchukin and Shchepkinskoe schools. Representatives of the stronger sex in this profession are in short supply, so they undergo a special selection.

Foreword

Several parameters should be evaluated:

  • what skills do you have;
  • how many times have you performed in front of an audience;
  • Have you ever tried to put on a play?
  • Have you ever attended a rehearsal or film set?
  • whether you have a practical idea of the profession you have chosen.

Which acting school is right for you?

The first step is to choose the city in which you plan to enter the theater university. Documents should be submitted to all specialized schools in the locality, since the result of the entrance exams depends not only on the talent of the applicant, but also on the preferences of the master. When applying to several schools at the same time, you increase your own chances of passing all rounds of tests.

You should clarify in advance the information on the specialized schools to which you plan to apply. From the one who is gaining the course, and what program he uses, the school of acting is also chosen, in which you will be trained. Each university has unique requirements for its students. You can understand the "school" of the theater school through the performances staged by its students.

Teachers recommend visiting the department in advance, establishing contact with teachers, carefully clarifying their recommendations and advice regarding admission. Not every teacher will answer questions, but perhaps you will be remembered.

How the acting school selects students

The submission of documents for study at the theater institute is preceded by a creative competition. It takes the form of an audition. This stage cannot be skipped; without it, the documents will not be considered by the selection committee. Standard audition consists of three rounds, and each university has its own requirements for participation in the tests. Teachers recommend clarifying the requirements for applicants in advance so as not to fail the exams from the threshold.

The audition takes place in the form of a lesson in which each applicant reads poetry from memory, tells fables and an excerpt from a prose work. Based on the presentation, the selection committee draws its conclusion. The first stage of the audition is a selection consultation. It screens out those applicants who do not fit into the masters' idea of future actors. This is followed by the second and third rounds, as well as the competition.

With each step, there are fewer and fewer potential students. Tasks for each round are different depending on the university. The second round can serve as a test of the vocal and plastique of the candidates, or it can be a test of the program compiled by the applicants on their own. You must be ready at any time to pass various tests, because the selection committee may ask you to improvise. In normal acting courses (according to the Stanislavsky system), this skill is developed through sketches.

High-quality preparation, self-confidence and diligence - this is something without which it is impossible to enter a prestigious theater university.

Every year thousands of applicants from all over Russia are attracted. It's not easy to get into one of them. This is evidenced by the stories from the life of outstanding actors and directors who at one time managed to become students of prestigious theater universities only on the second or third attempt. And how many more are there, unrecognized talents who have not managed to get a pass to the world of art?

The topic of today's article is Moscow theater institutes. We will provide a list of the most prestigious metropolitan universities that produce actors and directors. Let's talk about how to enter the theater institute in Moscow, and what difficulties usually arise in the way of applicants.

There is a list of universities that every student who dreams of an acting career wants to get into. There are theater universities in many cities, but when it comes to a profession related to cinema and theater, one remembers GITIS, the school named after. Shchepkin. After all, these are the best theatrical institutions in Moscow.

List of universities

Among the educational institutions discussed in this article, there are academies, colleges, and institutes. Some of them are called theatrical, as if their graduates can work exclusively in the temple of Melpomene. The name of one of them contains the word "cinema", as if those who received a diploma from this university will spend their whole lives on the set. In reality, there is no significant difference between them. They can be attributed to one category - theatrical institutes of Moscow.

It is worth saying that there is no guarantee that a student of one of these educational institutions will become a famous, sought-after actor. As there is no certainty that fame can make a person happy. But we will not be distracted by philosophical topics, but we will name the best theater institutes in Moscow:

  • GITIS;
  • school them. Shchepkin;
  • school them. Schukin;
  • Moscow Art Theater School;
  • VGIK.

Russian University of Theater Arts

This is the largest theater university in Europe. Girls and boys, dreaming of the stage, tend to get here in the first place. The history of GITIS begins at the end of the nineteenth century. Teaching is conducted in all specialties that only exist in the stage world. GITIS produces drama, stage and circus directors. Training is also conducted in the specialties "choreographer", "theater expert", "scenographer".

There are eight faculties in GITIS: acting, directing, theater studies, ballet master, and production. There are also faculties of variety art, musical theater, and scenography.

Among the teachers of GITIS there are many outstanding actors and directors. Perhaps this is the best theater institute in Moscow.

GITIS: what to do

This institution experiences the largest influx of applicants every year. A graduate of a general education school under the age of twenty-five can apply for the acting department. implies life experience. Therefore, here the age limit is increased to thirty-five years.

Since most applicants dream of a director or director, let's consider the admission conditions at the faculties that train these particular specialists. Both in the first and in the second case, potential students pass a creative selection. At the acting department, it takes place in three stages. At the director's - at four.

The future actor at the first stage of the qualifying round reads a poem, a fable and an excerpt from prose to the members of the selection committee. The reason for the failures of applicants is often an incorrectly selected work. An excerpt should be selected so that it corresponds to the internal state, external appearance. Taras Bulba's monologue from the lips of a slender young man will not sound at all harmonious. And an applicant with a rare comic gift should not enter the image of Romeo. It should also be noted that members of the selection committee can give a difficult task. You will have to improvise, connecting your life experience, observation, ability to respond quickly.

Case of life

Yuri Nikulin - the great clown - several years of theater institutes, including GITIS. None of the universities, the list of which is given above, did not take him. But in his book of memoirs, he told about one interesting case, which he witnessed at the entrance exams.

One of the applicants was asked to play a thief. The girl reacted very strangely. She began to be indignant, ran up to the table at which the members of the selection committee sat, and shouted: "How can you? After all, I'm a Komsomol member!" She ran out the door in tears. And only a minute later one of the teachers noticed the loss of his watch. At that moment, the “offended” applicant returned and returned the watch with the words: “Did I cope with your task?”

The final stage

Those who successfully passed the first stage will have to demonstrate stage speech and confirm their knowledge of the history of theatrical art. And only after this test in the Russian language and literature.

Future directors also take an oral examination in the theory of directing. Regardless of what specialty the applicant has chosen, there is not enough talent for admission. You also need theoretical knowledge. And in order to get them, you should read a lot of literature on theatrical and directing art.

Higher Theater School. Shchepkina

Admission to the acting department of this institute takes place in four stages. The first is a selection consultation. As in other theatrical universities, applicants prepare several excerpts from both poetic and prose works. Upon successful completion, applicants are admitted to the second stage. Here, too, they will have to demonstrate their artistic skills by reading literary works. But the selection in the second round is tougher. The applicant's abilities, the breadth of his artistic range are taken into account. The third stage is an oral exam in the theory of theatrical art.

Other universities

Admission to the school Shchukin and the Moscow Art Theater School follow the same pattern: an assessment of acting skills, a colloquium. That is why many applicants apply to several universities and read the same works in GITIS as, for example, in the school. Shchepkin.

This is the admission to After the 9th grade, you can enter the following educational institutions:

  • State School of Music and Variety Art;
