World of Warcraft: Demon Hunter Introduction Review. Altruis the Sufferer Return to Mardum

The first emotion that Korina the Silent felt after being released from confinement was irritation. Because nearby rose to their feet, getting out of the niches, Kain and Altruis.

In general, while the captivity lasted, Korina managed to experience many emotions.

Anger at yourself, at your mistake.

Disappointment in the choice of the path that led to this.

Sad misunderstanding of the former sisters.

Deaf bewilderment: why are they punished so terribly for a just cause?

Weary humility. There are many years ahead...

Lord Illidan once said that only the first thousand years are hard. Then you get used to it. Korina got used to it much faster, in just some miserable few years ... decades? She did not know how long she hung motionless, imprisoned in the crystal, looking at the world through the muddy greenery, unable even to look away. Just close your eyes, hooting into the even greater timelessness of your own silence.

At least it was familiar.

And then it was grossly violated.

No, Korina was grateful to the Guardians who split the crystal. Maybe all is not lost and Azeroth can still be saved. Perhaps the Guardians realized that a common goal is already a pledge of loyalty to the Illidari, which holds them much stronger than any chains.

May be...

Maybe these two will finally shut up?!

Clutching the handles of the blades tighter, Korina bared her teeth, throwing herself at the creatures that filled the Casemates. So at least silence reigned, the two behind her also only fought back in unison, following her as she led them through such familiar corridors.

The small detachment gradually grew, more Illidari joined it, the cloaks of the Guardians flickered around. There were also enough vile faces of demons and other inhabitants of the chambers, they had to cut through to the exit, allowing themselves only rare respite. And with each of them, the annoyance grew, because it was worth stopping and taking a breath, Kine and Altruis grappled again.

Korina disliked both.

What kindred who brought so many troubles there, in Outland, doubting and, in fact, betraying his brothers and sisters. Yes, Korina perfectly understood that not everyone has the strength to restrain the demon, not everyone has the will to follow the chosen path ... But it is difficult to achieve great success alone. Even Lord Illidan needed support. And he did not kill former brethren, as Altruis did.

As for Kain... It seems to have been in the blood of all those who once followed Dath'Remar. Blind boundless devotion to the leaders, which cost the lives of many. Why look far: how the blood elves believed their Kael'thas and what came of it.

Korina could have expressed her opinion to both, but habitually remained silent. She was silent when she left, barking angrily at the end, Altruis. She was silent when Cain was crucified later.

She made a decision, one thing that was only right for her. Perhaps Lord Illidan would not have been pleased with him... Just as Mev was definitely not pleased once, when one of the Guardians went to the Illidari. But then it was the right way. And now Korina knew one thing: the decision to believe or not to believe Illidan was hers alone.

She won't reject anything right away. She will watch. Weigh. Think.

And stand until the end in only one.

Stand to the end for Azeroth.

Although Altruis supported his mentor for a long time, he eventually decided that Illidan had become too distracted and obsessed with other issues instead of destroying demons. Altruis left the ranks of the Illidari and went on a journey through Outland, cracking down on demons with his own powers. His faithful companion was a Nether dragon named Netrandamus.

As long as the transporters were available to the demons, the raids on the camps would have had no effect. Altruis began to look for a way to destroy the Legion's buildings, and while he was developing a plan, the hero was asked to distract enemy engineers and repairmen in order to slow down progress. However, it soon became clear that the fel iron from which the transporters were made was not so easy to destroy.

Altruis knew that all Legion camps were built according to a single plan approved by the master planner. Usually this planner carried around a lot of blueprints. The demon hunter asked the hero to get these blueprints, which would allow him to seek help from an acquaintance of the Sufferer.

This acquaintance was a mo "arg named Salsalabim, who once served the Legion. Now he was in the Lower City of Shattrath and, staying in a bar, tried to drown his sadness in a glass. The hero, sent by Altruis along with the drawings, forced Salsalabim to cooperate. Mo "arg, after checking the drawings, offered to deploy the Fel cannons and fire them at the camp buildings. To turn the cannon, a key was required, which was kept by the guards.

The demon hunter liked the idea of the camps being destroyed by the Legion's own weapons. He sent the same hero on a mission: find the guards in both camps, take away the keys and use them to activate the guns. So, the Hatred and Fear camps were destroyed, which made it possible to contain the onslaught of the Legion in Nagrand.

Training grounds of Karabor

The Burning Crusade to World of Warcraft.

As the Aldor and Scryer forces began preparing to invade the Black Temple, the first target was the training ground of Karabor, where new demon hunters were trained. Both factions knew rumors of a Rogue Hunter who remained in Nagrand. Altruis hated the demons with all his heart and might have agreed to give the necessary information to the hero sent by the Aldors and the Seers. However, Altruis stated that he would not reveal anything until he received proof that the hero was fighting against the same enemies as him.

He offered the hero to deal with a demon named Xelet, who was true only to himself and fled from the ranks of the Legion. The primitive swamp creatures of Zangarmarsh revered Xelet as a deity. When Draenor almost died, the demon fell into a deep sleep under the waters of Swampfire Lake. It could be awakened by thrusting a strong silver spear near the portal by the lake. When the hero summoned Xelet, he mentioned that he still had a spear scar on his body. The hero, who returned victorious, was told by Altruis that he had once fought the demon himself.

The sufferer demanded that the hero confirm that he was not an ally of Illidan. Although Altruis still respected him and was grateful for his becoming a demon hunter, Illidan had changed - his soul was consumed by the lust for power, and his mind was clouded by defeat. The Mentor had become the one Altruis had sworn to destroy, and the Illidari were no less an abomination than the demons of the Burning Legion. On the instructions of the Sufferer, the hero went to the Illidari Outpost in Shadowmoon Valley and killed Lieutenant Lotros.

Of course, the main enemy of Altruis was the Legion, now and then corrupting the souls of mortals. The hero needed to prove that he was not on the side of the demons. Altruis asked to destroy the demoness named Satal, who at one time eluded him due to her incorporeality. The hero arrived at the forge base of Gehenna, where sinister priestesses worshiped Satal. The shed blood of one of the priestesses forced Satal to take on a material form for the sake of retribution, and the hero managed to deal with her at that moment. Altruis acknowledged that the hero's soul was not corrupted by the Legion.

Varedis

Finally, Altruis told the story of the one who was in charge at the training ground of Karabor - Varedis. This blood elf was one of the first of his kind to be given the opportunity by Illidan to become demon hunters. At first there were five blood elves, and they had to go through incredibly difficult trials. Three candidates died, another went mad. Only Varedis remained, who not only survived the tests, but also demonstrated unprecedented control over his newfound power.

Illidan saw great potential in Varedis and had three of his best students train him. In just a year, Varedis had surpassed all three and realized that the mentors could no longer teach him anything else. He infiltrated the Shadow Council and learned of an artifact called the Book of Fel Names. He read the book and carefully memorized all the information that was indicated in it. Knowing a demon's true name was believed to grant some control over the bearer of the name, and the Book of Fel Names contained within it the names of every demon that had ever existed. By memorizing the names, Varedis gained access to an energy source comparable to the skull of Gul "dan, which was used by Illidan. When Varedis finally returned to the Black Temple, Illidan ordered him to train new demon hunters. Three former mentors of Varedis helped him complete this task.

The hero expressed a desire to stop Varedis and his followers, but Altruis cooled his ardor - in order to fight with Varedis, it was necessary to find the very artifact that endowed him with power. It was rumored that the owner of the Book of Fel Names was a warlock named Blackheart the Instigator, who was hiding in the Dark Labyrinth in Auchindoun. The hero was able to get the artifact and delivered it to Altruis. The demon hunter flinched as he felt the power of the book from afar. He was almost seduced by the desire to retain this unprecedented power, but he managed to restrain himself. The sufferer told the hero that the book must be destroyed at the moment when Varedis will use his reincarnation so that he loses his powers.

Legion

The source of information in this section is an addendum Legion to World of Warcraft.

Despite the help provided by Altruis, after the fall of Illidan, the Guardians captured him along with the rest of the demon hunters. He ended up in the Vault of the Guardians, where he slept for several years until a new invasion of the Burning Legion began. Maiev Shadowsong awakened Altruis and the other Illidari to grant them their freedom in exchange for help in slaying the demons.

Although Altruis was reunited with his brethren, he still believed Illidan's actions were wrong. After his release, he met with Kain Sunfury, one of Illidan's most trusted lieutenants, who considered Altruis a traitor who had killed many demon hunters. Kaine refused to forgive Altruis, and Altruis refused to repent of his actions. The new leader of the Illidari, chosen in Illidan's absence, had to choose one of them as his closest lieutenant.

, fel orcs, and demons of various kinds. In addition, there were groups that were considered allies of the Illidari, although they did not belong to this faction. The Illidari carried out operations even in Azeroth, but for the most part they worked in Outland. At the moment of the greatest strength of the army, there were very few places throughout the shattered world where the activity of the Illidari or their allies was not noticed.

When the Alliance and Horde entered Outland through the Dark Portal, reopened by the servants of the Burning Legion, the Illidari became one of their main opponents. Unknown to the two factions, Illidan and the demon hunters took a direct part in the early battles against the demons and saved the Alliance and Horde forces from defeat. But they had reason to treat Illidan's servants with suspicion and hatred: in almost every area of Outland there were innocents who suffered from the Illidari in one way or another. While Illidan's true goal was to defeat the Burning Legion, to achieve this goal he used methods that looked dubious from the outside, including the creation of fel orcs, the summoning of demons, the collection of ancient relics, and the invasion of Auchindoun.

Invasion of Mardum

Legion to World of Warcraft.

Following Illidan's orders, the Demon Hunters invaded Mardum just as the Alliance, Horde, and Shattrath forces were under siege of the Black Temple in Outland. They needed to get the Sargerite Key, which would not only be the key to defeating the Legion, but also the only way to leave this world. The vanguard had already engaged the Legion, and Kain Sunfury offered to join him to terrify the demons. The clashes took place on the Ridge of Despair, and the demon hunters, having destroyed their opponents, changed the banner of the Legion to their own.

Three demon hunters set out to find the key, while others stayed behind to open three pairs of Burning Legion gates. This would allow the Illidari troops left in the Black Temple to arrive here. Souls were needed to activate the gate, and enough of them were collected to summon a squad of Ashtongue. At the head of the detachment, which also brought gifts from Illidan, was the warlord Gaardun, who promised to help take positions on the volcano.

On the Molten Shore, where the demons called jailers were, some of the demon hunters were captured, and additional keys had to be found to free them. An additional soul was required to open the gate that would allow the summoning of Serpent Ring naga, and the broken mystic agreed to sacrifice himself. When the gates opened, nagas led by Lady S "Theno arrived on Mardum. Before leaving the Blazing Shore, the demon hunters destroyed Inquisitor Sinister and drew power from his corpse. This gave them the ability to use a piercing gaze. Jace the Dark Weaver used the crucible of the Void to spy on the leaders of the Legion and find out what they are up to.It turns out that the eredar have already begun to call on troops to attack the demon hunters from the rear and prevent them from reaching the volcano. The local leader is the queen of the pack, Tyranna, a mysterious demon whose appearance resembled a spider.

Mardum after his split, which became one of the strongholds of the Burning Legion

At the Command Headquarters, there was the last gate that allowed the summoning of the shivarr from the Black Temple. Although it is a great risk to call them here, despite their former service to the Burning Legion, they were still one of Illidan's strongest allies. But Queen Tyranna did something with the gates, and the souls of several mo "args were not enough to open them. A demon hunter had to be sacrificed, because his soul was able to open the gates. Shivarra, led by the supreme mother Anger, arrived on Mardum. Here, at the Headquarters, a battle with Beliash took place.By destroying him, the demon hunters received the ability to absorb magic.

At Hell's Peak, the Legion used destroyers - huge shooting weapons, but the Illidari broke through them and created their stronghold. Kayne announced that the demonic forces at the volcano must be dealt with before storming the Felhammer, the pack queen's flagship. The main targets were the Spider Fortress, the Reactor of Souls and the Forge of Corruption. Ashtongue, naga and shivarr attacked them.

Jace Darkweaver claimed that he felt the presence of demons somewhere above the stronghold for some time. Together with a detachment of fighters, he went to the cave in the southeast to check it out. Although nothing was found there, Jace still believed that something was wrong here after all. After using ghostly vision, it was revealed that a detachment of demons was hiding behind the blockage in the cave. Demon hunters rushed in and destroyed the demons, along with their leader, the Fel Lord of Khaz, absorbing his power.

The Illidari launched an attack and tried to break the destroyers. In the Soul Reactor, they clashed with Count Gnus and defeated him, releasing a shower of souls from the well. Several naga were captured by General Volroth, but the demon hunters dealt with him and freed the captives. From one of the demons, they learned that the mother of demons was hiding in the volcano, which rewrote the secrets of the Legion. Korvas Bloodthorn went there to track down the demon and obtain secret information. The mother of demons was called Fruity, and she performed the unholy rituals of the Legion, after which she wrote everything down in her book. The Demon Hunters destroyed it and obtained the Tome of Fel Secrets.

Together, the Illidari destroyed the destroyer in the Forge of Corruption. Mother Spite, along with the demon hunters, slew the massive overseer Brutarg. The battle continued in the Cursed Fortress, shrouded in cobwebs and filled with spiders. King Voras, a companion of Tyranna, hid here, and the demon hunters dealt with him. Tyranna promised to avenge the murder of her lover. After that, the Illidari destroyed the last destroyer of the Legion. Back at the camp, the Demon Hunters used the Tome of Fel Secrets and became even stronger. Mannetrel Darkstar was unable to contain such a huge power and died.

The Felhammer Invasion has begun, and the Demon Hunters have traveled there on Felbats. Together, they attacked the queen of the pack, Tyranna, and, having killed her, took the Sargerite Key. They gathered on the lower level of the ship and used the key to return to the Black Temple. The demon hunters rallied to help Lord Illidan drive back the invaders from Azeroth and Shattrath City, only to find that the siege had already ended in the defeat of the Illidari. The Guardians, led by Maiev Shadowsong, captured them and imprisoned them in cells located in the Casemates.

Legion

Maiev Shadowsong awakened the demon hunter, claiming they could not get out of the Vault of the Wardens alone. The first step was to free Altruis the Sufferer and Kayn Sunfury. Kayne was surprised to see that Altruis was awakened as well, as he was Illidan's enemy. Altruis replied that he still believed in the cause of the demon hunters, but refused to blindly obey anyone, including Illidan. They both knew the only reason Maiev could free them was if the Legion had returned.

In the Illidari block, they began to recuperate by absorbing the souls of the slain demons that had invaded the Casemates and freeing their allies. They closed the portals through which the demons passed and gathered next to Maiev. She stated that Gul "dan and the demons would not have been able to get here if one of the Guardians had not betrayed their own. The traitor turned out to be Kordana Fel Song, who, together with Gul" Dan, managed to steal Illidan's body and hide in the portal. Maiev jumped into the portal after them as the hunters battled the giant summoned demons. Having won, they absorbed their strength and flew on felbats to the upper level of the Casemates.

They hit the block where the Guardians captured the demons. This place was also engulfed in chaos due to the invasion. In the Casemate of Mirrors, they encountered a demon called the Watcher, protected by a barrier that was destroyed by focusing the mirrors. In the Casemate of the Law, the formidable demon Immolant was hiding, full of the purest concentrated fel energy. Defeating him allowed the demon hunters to gain new powers. In the Casemate of Ice, a huge elemental Vul "Kan was captured, which turned out to be too strong. The hunters activated the security system to bind it with ice.

Rising to the upper level, the hunters found themselves in a hall called the Court of the Guardians. The conflict between Kaine and Altruis reached its limits, and they began to fight each other. The demon hunter, who was considered the new leader, chose one of them as his closest assistant to end the bickering. To get out of the Casemates, the last obstacle remained - the leader of the demons, Bastillax. The hunters destroyed him in the Halls of Night and took his power. They left the Vaults and met Archmage Khadgar, who stated that Azeroth needed their help. The demon hunters realized that cooperation was the only way to save the world from invasion, and traveled to Dalaran with Khadgar, where he promised to give further instructions.

Return to Mardum

The source of information in this section is an addendum Legion to World of Warcraft.

In Dalaran, demon hunters have gathered at Kras's grounds, located on the eastern edge of the city. As they waited for their leader, who had taken over in Illidan's absence, they realized that a stronger weapon would be needed to wage war against the Burning Legion. When the commander returned with the artifact, the demon hunters informed him that they had set up camp near Kras' Landing so that they could more easily monitor the Legion's movements. The camp could be reached by normal wing glide after jumping off Dalaran. Jace Darkweaver reported that he was able to contact the Illidari forces on Mardum. They have guarded the Fel Hammer for many years without demon hunters, and have held it ever since.
