This is where the seriousness with which the performance looks, the life-affirming laughter and applause that flare up during the action, the sense of moral satisfaction experienced by the viewer comes from.

Together with Klavdia Vasilievna Savina, we believe in her younger children, when at the end of the performance Oleg reassures her, upset, offended by Fyodor's move: “We love you. Don't be afraid for us..." Together with Oleg, comforting his mother, Rozov, as it were, tells us that only good, honest, noble people are now left in the house. Good triumphs over evil, truth conquers falsehood, the lofty principles of our Soviet morality triumph.

In the early spring morning, life awakens in the Savin family, and the production designer M. Her “sober view of life”, her confidence that the main thing is “not to yawn in life”, her all-consuming passion for foreign furniture, for foreign things, her desire to turn her husband into a cash cow - this is what we call philistinism and with what else is there to fight. And the performer of the role of M. Kupriyanov reflects all this in her game, in stage means,. with which she achieves this, are sometimes too straightforward, too satirically naked. Such Lenochka, which Kupriyanova creates, could not be loved even by the weak-willed Fyodor. By the way, what, besides weak will and falling in love with his wife, did the author endow Fedor with? Nothing! The images of Nikolai, Taisiya, Marina, Leonid, Vasily Ippolitovich were even less successful in the play. In 1958, the play "In Search of Joy" based on the play by Viktor Rozov was released on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater branch. They didn’t want to give us this play, because they needed permission to stage it from the Ministry of Culture, and the right of the first performance belonged to the Central Children’s Theater, with which Rozov was closely connected, his plays were already on there. The director of the theater, Shakhazizov, did not want anyone else to stage this play, and asked Rozov not to give it to us under any circumstances. Rozov had a very difficult situation, but we still persuaded him.

I hope that many have seen the film "A Noisy Day" based on this play, in which two artists from Sovremennik, Oleg Tabakov and Lilia Tolmacheva, play. Their heroes came from our performance, and it was not Efros, who directed the film, who made them - this is the work of Oleg Efremov.

For him, the struggle of the hero with lack of spirituality, with philistinism, with "materialism" was very important. Nowadays, it even sounds kind of wild. But he did not want Oleg to cut furniture out of revenge - no, the whole life of Lenochka, who thinks only about material well-being, was incomprehensible and unnatural to him. But when she threw a jar of his favorite fish out the window, it was a tragedy for him: how can living beings be compared with a thing? "They're alive!" he shouted, and in despair he clutched at his grandfather's saber. This is the pinnacle of the show.
