How to determine the schizoid personality type. Schizoid personality type

People with the schizoid type are markedly different from others. You can trace the general features that are inherent in this type of personality. For example, gait or manner of dressing. A special feature is also isolation and dispassion. Let's talk about this and more in more detail.

Signs of a schizoid personality type
  1. Schizoid personality disorder can be seen from childhood. Schizoids like to spend their time in silence and solitude. Communication with peers is of little interest to them. They attach great importance to their inner reality, they can fantasize for a long time and live in the world of their ideas.
  2. Indifferent to pleasures, emotionally cold. But in their hearts they are very sensitive, vulnerable and impressionable. In professional activities, people of the schizoid type are tactful, unobtrusive and responsible. The circle of friends changes very rarely. As a rule, such people maintain communication with certain people all their lives.
  3. Completely devoid of intuition. They do not feel the interlocutor, someone else's mood and do not understand how others treat them. One gets the impression that they are indifferent, but this is not entirely true. Just a schizoid personality type is too fixated on their own experiences and feelings. Schizoids attach great importance to trifles, but seemingly obvious facts are not noticed at close range.
  4. Despite their apparent detachment, schizoids crave intimacy. But because they are not always understood correctly, they are closed. They often behave rather tactlessly, because they do not accept the opinions of others. Selfishness manifests itself on an ongoing basis.
  5. They consider themselves unique, incomprehensible geniuses and incomprehensible sages. Hobbies of schizoids are very unusual. They are concerned with the problems of philosophy, science and art. If a child begins to take an early interest in complex philosophical problems, this may serve as a signal for the formation of schizoid psychopathy.
  6. They don't know how to speak well. Often the schizoid type has a monotonous and inexpressive voice, pauses and gets confused in words. He plays a passive role in society. He does not care at all about someone else's opinion, so it is very difficult to offend a schizoid. Sometimes he himself can inadvertently offend the interlocutor, defending his point of view.
  7. They don't care about their own appearance at all. They can walk in dirty and torn clothes, do not wash their hair for a long time, do not shave, do not take a shower. Such a negligent attitude appears due to attention to other things that are more important for the schizoid. They are not very concerned about external reality and everything material.
Treatment of the schizoid personality type

Unfortunately, drug therapy is powerless here. The drugs show very little result. Being socially isolated, the schizoid-hysteroid type of personality begins treatment in connection with an emerging disorder, for example, alcoholism. Often he does not trust doctors, so the treatment is ineffective. General therapy includes a program for the appearance of positive. For example, the patient must remember and describe any positive events happening in his life or just reflect on the list of pleasant emotions. Many therapists give their patients homework assignments in which they are expected to play a role in society. Group therapy is helpful, but most schizoids do not like to take part in any social activities.

Almost all schizoids do not consider it necessary to sign up for psychologists, however, they suffer from their inner thoughts and far-fetched experiences. If a person himself is aware of his own personality disorder, sooner or later he will be able to cope with this and learn to control himself.

There are few such people, 1-2%. They do not like to be approached too closely and often scare people away with their peculiar behavior. Many consider them "not like that." But they are used to it.

After my book is published, readers often come up to me to thank me for information that has helped them or their work. But people with a schizoid personality type send me emails saying "thank you." They thank me for the fact that my description does not contain a hint of their exaggerated oddities.

People with a schizoid personality type use detachment as a defense mechanism. They leave - from people, into loneliness, into the world of their own fantasies. They always choose a distance, and they do not need other distorting defenses: denial, dissociation (separation of themselves from their unpleasant experiences), repression. Perhaps that is why they are often aware of processes that for others proceed unconsciously.

Americans have a proverb: "An elephant is in the room, but no one notices him." People of the schizoid personality type always see this elephant and are surprised that it is invisible to others. But when they try to talk about this elephant, they look like they are crazy.

To avoid difficulties in communication, they prefer activities that can be indulged in alone. To not be in a group, a team. Many of them are busy with creativity, are interested in philosophy, spiritual practices, meditation…

However, we are unlikely to meet a person of a schizoid personality type who does not have at least some degree of desire for attachment.

But there is a problem: striving for intimacy, they experience overload from excessive intimacy, it suppresses and depresses them. As a rule, they feel better in the company of children and animals.

The child grows extremely sensitive. He reacts to stimuli as if they hurt him.

I was recently asked if people with a schizoid personality type and autistic people are similar. I think they have something in common. For example, both of them do not like excessive attention. But there is one significant difference - autistic people do not understand the feelings of other people. They do not know that a child needs to be hugged ... But they can be taught this. And a person with a schizoid personality type knows from the very beginning that the child must be picked up. But he cannot do this, he avoids contact in every possible way, because it is unbearable for him.

their childhood

The child grows extremely sensitive. He reacts to stimuli as if they hurt him. Moreover, on a variety of stimuli: sound, light, any changes, tactile sensations (like labels on clothes that scratch the skin). When we take such a child in our arms, he does not cuddle, but moves away, his body becomes rigid.

Children with a schizoid personality type often refuse to breastfeed. They feel completely unprotected, and any contact is perceived by them as an invasion, a violation of their integrity. Even if this invasion is a mother's nipple in her mouth. It can be assumed that they have too thin skin.

One day I shared this observation with my patient: I said that it was as if I was sitting next to a person who had a burn. He needs help, he needs to be touched, but this cannot be done, because any touch is unbearable. This metaphor seemed to her true and appropriate.

I repeat: as a defense, a person with a schizoid personality type prefers withdrawal. But he also feels parting with someone very sharply. Why? The fact is that he is already ready to let a few people in, and the loss of one of these people will mean the disappearance of too much of the support system. Such people become attached to others, but in their company it is difficult not to feel lonely.

Schizoid and others

Schizoids cannot stand superficial communication. My husband was a man with a schizoid personality type. On the rare occasions when I was able to persuade him to come visit with me, he immediately found a child or a dog and spent the whole evening with them. Talking about nothing was killing him. He needed sincerity and honesty. That is why, from the point of view of a schizoid person, a hysterical person is simply ... a liar.

The fact is that for a hysteric, the main defense is exaggeration. Imagine with what intonation a woman can say the phrase: “I was so-a-a-ak angry at my moo-o-o-zh-a!” For her, this way of communication is protection, she wants what she says to be taken seriously, and it seems to her that if she says it more quietly, they will not believe her.

Schizoid men love tantrum women for sensitivity, warmth, emotionality

The combination of people with schizoid and hysterical personality types is difficult. At the same time, there is a long love story between them. Female tantrums find schizo males extremely attractive. They value honesty, adherence to principles, self-sufficiency in them ... And male schizoids love hysterical women for their sensitivity, warmth, and emotionality.

But together they can drive each other crazy. Because when she feels bad, she tries to move closer to him, and he moves away. When he sees that she is not well, he thinks that the best thing he can do for her is to leave her alone. And she feels abandoned.

Features of schizoids

There are many contradictions in people with a schizoid personality type. They seem aloof and uninterested, and live with a deep longing for intimacy. They are self-sufficient, but they need another person. Extremely distracted and extremely attentive.

They seem inactive and unemotional, but inside they are active, emotions are seething. They look asexual and ascetic, but they have enough impulsiveness and powerful sexual fantasies.

If the schizoid is sure that you will not consider him crazy, he will gradually tell you a lot of interesting things about the world of his fantasies.

I once asked a psychoanalyst with a schizoid personality type why there is not much attention paid to schizoid dynamics in psychology. He replied: “Do you think WE can start some kind of social movement?” Sometimes I feel like I'm kind of an ambassador for a silent community of lonely people...who don't do very well with PR! But I do it sincerely.

The inner life of a person with a schizoid personality type is very attractive. If he is sure that you do not consider him crazy, gradually, trusting you more and more, he will tell you a lot of interesting things about the world of his fantasies.

My schizoid friend once admitted that she doesn't eat raisins. I assumed she didn't like the taste. "No," she replied, "you don't understand, he could be a fly!" I told this to another friend of mine, who has a schizoid husband. She immediately said that her husband also did not eat raisins. True, he argues differently: he does not trust the raisins that are hidden in buns. Charming! The whole world seems animated by them. In that sense, they are like children.

How to deal with them?

  • Such people avoid contact, they are easy to scare. They need as much space as possible to feel safe. The therapist must avoid invading the patient's territory, I would not recommend moving forward too quickly, asking uncomfortable questions - so that they do not feel like an "interesting clinical case." They cannot stand insincerity, lies, it is important to be absolutely truthful, real, honest.
  • Of the difficulties: often the therapeutic relationship becomes more comfortable for them than relationships with real, ordinary people in ordinary life. You may find that although the person came to you with a desire to become more sociable, they did not achieve this during the course of treatment. Toward the end of therapy, he should be given a little push by asking if he managed to solve the problem with which he came.
  • It is important that a person with a schizoid personality type knows that you consider him normal.
  • It is difficult for such people to talk about feelings. Even if they want it. The very act of speaking is painful for them. Try to find an indirect way to talk about what's important: talk about movies, plays, music... My colleague spent weeks talking to a patient about... pizza. In detail: where in the city they make the best, what makes it so good, and so on. At the same time, they both understood that they were talking not about pizza, but about inner hunger, about how to satisfy it. And what does a person feel when he needs one thing, and he is offered something completely different.

about the author

Nancy McWilliams- psychoanalyst. Author of the book "Psychoanalytic Diagnostics", which describes different types of personality (narcissistic, hysterical, depressive, schizoid and others), shows their features, similarities and differences, prevailing emotions and affects, drives and defenses; tells how a person perceives himself and how others see him.

Before starting a description of this type of personality psychology, a reservation must be made - the schizoid type of character has nothing to do with such a psychiatric disease as schizophrenia. Its name comes from a term meaning detachment and opposition of consciousness to the rest of the world.

The likelihood of developing mental illness in such people is no more, and sometimes less than others. In particular, the schizoid type of character usually implies a high resistance to physical addictions and obsessive desires.

The only difficult nuance is communication with a similar person who can lead an asocial lifestyle, however, it can also be adjusted if you have an idea about all the features of character.

Expert psychologists say that people with a schizoid temperament are living contradictions - they combine a very rich inner world with external coldness, restraint and detachment.

This is true - such a person rarely makes contact with society on his own and seeks to protect himself from it by all means. In childhood, the schizoid type of character manifests itself when the child does not want to communicate with peers, as well as refusing to participate in team games that fascinate most children.

However, isolation should not be confused with the recent craze for computer games - here the reason for asociality lies in the presence of an addiction that is not at all characteristic of this type of personality.

The inability to communicate with people often leads to conflicts that seem provoked by an unnecessarily cold and unfriendly person. However, in practice, he tries to find an approach to his interlocutors, and he succeeds very rarely.

The schizoid type of character is rarely capable of empathy or sharing the feelings of other members of society - if the interlocutor's hobbies seem too boring or wrong to him, he will not hide this, which will cause a strong resentment of the latter.

In addition, for a person with this type of character, the use of intuition and some traditional logical tools is uncharacteristic - this leads to their need for obtaining knowledge in alternative ways. For example, many tend to memorize certain facts, but the downside of this method is the formation of dogmas - immutable establishments that do not require proof.

The external restraint that can describe the schizoid type of character is simply explained - for a person, the world around him looks too boring and colorless, since it rarely corresponds to his ideas of beauty.

Much more comfortable for such individuals in the area of their fantasies and hobbies - they can lead an alternative life in them, which is not always separated from the real one. At the same time, it is not necessary to talk about psychiatric diseases - the brain continues to adequately perceive the surrounding reality and create reactions appropriate to the situation.

If a person has a sufficiently developed intellect or creative imagination, the schizoid type of character can help reveal his talents and increase the intensity of work. However, you should not cross the dangerous line and concentrate on one activity, completely excluding contacts with the outside world - this leads to a gradual decline in the health of the individual and the emergence of serious problems.

Features of adolescence

The schizoid type of character is going through adolescence very hard, because it is in it that the existing internal contradictions manifest themselves to the maximum, and they are transformed into mental problems. In particular, a teenager may have a heightened sense of ownership and inviolability of his inner world.

Usually such people maintain good relations with friends and family members, but they react very sharply to an attempt to violate the inviolability of personal secrets, secrets, or even to the use of their personal belongings by loved ones.

Against this background, nonconformism is formed - a teenager condemns the world around him for not giving people the desired freedom of action and trying by all means to avoid following generally accepted requirements.

Sometimes such behavior reaches the point of absurdity and leads to dire consequences - for example:

  • leaving home;
  • violation of the law to confirm the correctness of their thoughts;
  • deliberate self-injury.

Relationships with others during adolescence are very difficult for people with a schizoid personality - they rarely communicate with peers and tend to have a very limited number of friends.

The position in social groups is determined by other circumstances - if a teenager wants to achieve recognition and respect, he will seek the position of a leader by any means, and if he fails, he will simply leave her and will not return to this social circle.

In the absence of such desires, he can take the place of a participant invisible to the rest, or he attracts attention with his strange behavior, as a result of which he often becomes the object of ridicule.

The lack of interest in the opposite sex is only apparent - in dreams and in his inner world, he seeks to be loved and find a worthy object of his love. However, the asociality that accompanies the schizoid type of character rarely makes it possible to establish real relationships, as a result of which there is an increase in emotional intensity.

Hobbies in such adolescents with a schizoid type of character can take quite strange forms - they are usually associated with very complex actions that are incomprehensible to others.

For example, there are such hobbies as reading philosophical literature with a comparison of various concepts, searching for homogeneous architectural elements in various buildings, studying the family tree of historical figures, and others.

Based on the analysis of hobbies, we can conclude about the activity that is most characteristic of a person - it is this activity that can determine the future profession, which will bring maximum satisfaction.

If the hobby is related to creativity or science, it can give very good results and bring universal recognition.

However, it is necessary to dilute such actions with others - otherwise, you may face complete protection from the outside world and the development of diseases.

Problematic sides

The schizoid type of character at any age is rarely combined with the development of strong addictions. Due to the presence of certain features, such people do not get complete relaxation from taking alcohol, tobacco or other intoxicants. However, one should be wary of the development of a secondary or psychological dependence.

For example, there were cases when teenagers used alcohol only because it made them more liberated and allowed them to communicate on equal terms with others. In addition, hallucinogenic drugs help to reveal the inner world of a schizoid personality, but they tear consciousness away from reality, which is very dangerous from the point of view of psychiatry.

As for crime, the schizoid type of character does not allow the creation of certain moral principles and prohibitions in the minds of people - they can easily go to violate laws and generally accepted rules.

The only limitation is that they choose only those methods of crime that do not require the involvement of other participants.

Most of these individuals, once in a criminal environment, become professional burglars, thieves, and even violators in the field of electronic communications, honing their skills for years. At the same time, there is no dependence on the money received dishonestly - having decided to leave for a normal life, they instantly rebuild, forgetting the wrong past.

One of the most serious problems that are associated with a schizoid character is sexuality. The presence of many suppressed desires, as well as the impossibility of their realization, leads to the emergence of perversions.

For example, quite often, having been rejected by peers, a person turns his attention to younger members of society who are not aware of their sexuality and do not understand the processes associated with it. This may not manifest itself openly - there are cases when people unconsciously select for themselves partners of small stature and with childish features.

In addition, there is often a painful craving for humiliation and punishment, which is associated with sexuality - in this way a person tries to atone for his “wrongness” and inconsistency with generally accepted standards.

How to communicate with a difficult person?

As mentioned earlier, the schizoid type of character is very difficult to communicate - it is simply impossible to quickly establish trusting contact with him.

If this person is very important to you, then you should start small - for example, just call for a pointless conversation in which you try to find out more about hobbies or specific personality traits. You should not immediately make attempts at socialization - this will lead to a sharp rejection and a complete cessation of the relationship.

After you get to know him better, it is worth suggesting certain options for spending time together. However, keep in mind that it is not worth calling a person with a schizoid character to parties or to crowded places - you will create the most uncomfortable situation for her.

In order to socialize a person, you need to learn about his inner world and hobbies. If you succeed, you need to show that he is not the only one who has similar interests - it is worth looking for communities based on similar hobbies or hobbies, and try to introduce your “ward” to its members.

The problem with the schizoid character is that he considers himself unique and inimitable, not even assuming that someone else is able to share his thoughts. If you prove the opposite to a person, he can slightly weaken the barrier built between him and the outside world.

There are certain caveats as well. A schizoid personality should not be allowed to concentrate on one particular type of activity - otherwise, it may have serious prerequisites for the development of mental illness.

In addition, if you show that you are not serious about the hobbies inherent in a person, or consider them stupid, he may abruptly cut off contact with you. This is due to the fact that he considers his inner world more important than the outside.

The term "schizoid" itself is translated as "split". This disorder occurs more frequently in men than in women; schizoidness can be pronounced, or latent. To understand how to interact with such people, you need to take a closer look at their characteristics.

Characteristics of the personality of the schizoid

The schizoid type of character manifests itself throughout the life of the patient. Symptoms of schizopathy can be recognized from an early age. Early examinations, as well as psychotherapy sessions, significantly increase the chances of recovery and normalization of the patient's condition. At the same time, there is always a danger that the symptoms of schizotypal disorder will occasionally manifest themselves in one way or another.

A schizoid can be recognized by his communication with people, or rather, by the lack thereof. With such a disorder, it is difficult for the patient to express his thoughts, emotions and feelings to other people, which leads to the focus of a person's attention on his inner world. It is much more important and valuable for the schizoid than the ordinary physical world.

Personality traits and his character develop without receiving external experience from the world. Simply put, schizoids try not to interact with the outside world, preferring to learn it through reading and watching movies.

At the same time, such people are often diagnosed in absentia: "inability to communicate with people." This is not entirely true; schizoids may have friends with whom they feel comfortable. As a rule, they have known each other since childhood, since in adulthood schizoid personalities prefer not to make acquaintances at all.

Development of schizoid states with age

As you know, a huge part of mental problems, clamps, phobias and deviations are laid in early childhood. During this period, the child's psyche is labile and malleable, like soft clay, which leaves a trace of any outside influence. Over time, such a psyche gradually “hardens”, and any changes in its character are less and less possible.

Schizoid Personality Disorder (or SPD) manifests itself with age as follows:

The above items characterized a person with congenital schizoid disorder; about the acquired forms of this mental deviation in the process of life will be discussed a little lower.

Schizoid personalities, despite their detachment, are able to surpass ordinary people in terms of career, self-realization and financial success, since their inherent diligence and perseverance allow them to achieve the highest success in certain, highly specialized areas of science and art.

In modern psychology, it is known that there are no absolutely “pure” personality types. People called "schizoids" have signs of not only one mental disorder, but also some other mental disorders.

Schizoid disorder does not manifest itself in full force in all cases. Many who read psychological sites have noticed that most of the signs and symptoms of disorders can be easily found in yourself. Therefore, you need to understand that a mental disorder is diagnosed only when a person has at least a few pronounced signs.

There is no need to list all the symptoms, as they are easily confused with other types of mental disorders. Schizoid personality type signs are some of them worth mentioning:

  1. Internal unwillingness to communicate with people, a negative attitude towards spending leisure time together with a team or a group of people.
  2. Ignoring the opinions of people regarding any area (for example, fashion, politics, art, recreation, etc.). And this does not mean a deliberate disregard for the opinions of others, but a desire to listen only to oneself, since the schizoid personality is not used to trusting other people. Their behavior is also very different from the generally accepted.
  3. Lack of concern for their appearance. Such people may look sloppy, unsportsmanlike, "with a stomach" or, conversely, be thin. The gait of schizoids is striking, which in no way worries them themselves.
  4. The tendency to talk with oneself, and not only in the mind, but also out loud. It is not surprising: many schizoids are incredibly well-read and very intelligent people who do not communicate with other people. However, the need to verbalize one’s thoughts (sometimes in writing) still remains, which leads to lengthy monologues, a throat that is unaccustomed to, etc.
  5. Lack of emotion or weak emotional response. More precisely, it is seen as such only from the outside, and the schizoids themselves claim that they live a rich emotional life. They just hide them very deeply from others, and they have their own reasons for that.

Psychiatrists still cannot understand what exactly provokes the appearance of this mental deviation. It is especially interesting that there are actually very few schizoids with congenital abnormalities - the occurrence of schizopathy depends on many hereditary factors.

The main part acquires this disorder in the course of their life, as a kind of response to the influences of the outside world. Therefore, it is important to consider the alleged causes of schizoid disorder in humans.

What causes schizotypal traits

Departure from communication and interaction with other people (including close relatives) can be provoked by the fact that the child had extensive negative experience of communicating with people in childhood. As a result, he subconsciously tries to distance himself from painful experiences, because he is used to believing that any communication is a source of unpleasant emotions.

The schizoid discovers that when he is alone, he is not in danger. Naturally, there is a dependence on this state, and the fear of losing it. Since the interests of schizoids are narrowly limited (by their profession or their only hobby), he has nothing to talk about even with his parents, brothers or sisters.

The complexity of the treatment of schizoid personalities lies not in the peculiarities of therapy, and not in the selection of medications (although this is also important), but in the fact that the person himself does not consider it necessary to treat himself. He lives outside of society, and he likes this way of life. And if the patient himself does not want his recovery, then what will the doctor do?

How to communicate with schizoid personalities

Nevertheless, if you wish, you can find such an approach to the schizoid in order to still make him more contact and talkative. To do this, you can use the tips below.

  • Do not use the imperative mood in communication! "Talk to me", "do not withdraw into yourself" and similar phrases should be excluded. It should be a dialogue, and without the slightest sign of pressure. You can choose a free topic of conversation; the main thing is that a person does not feel like at school when they try to explain something to him.
  • Any interaction with a schizoid should be positive - after all, the main goal of such manipulations is for him to gradually learn to express his emotions in conversation. It is necessary to make it clear to a person that he is accepted for who he is. At first, it is better not to use touch, until an atmosphere of trust arises.
  • It is necessary to ask a person less often about what he is doing, and more often to be interested in his internal state, what he feels, etc. It is this state that a schizotypal personality hides from others, so you need to ask him as gently as possible to talk about his experiences.

How is schizoid treated?

It is worth noting that a full-fledged treatment is prescribed, as a rule, for those people who have serious mental disorders, expressed in the appearance of anxiety, paranoia, degradation of mental abilities, as well as severe depressive syndrome.

Psychiatrists, depending on how severe schizoid psychopathy is, offer several treatment options:

  • medical(with the help of tablets) removes the main symptoms of the disease, and also relieves unnecessary mental stress.
  • Thanks to group therapy the schizoid learns to express his thoughts in verbal form, and also gets used to other people, the same as himself.
  • Most often, the patient is scheduled to attend sessions psychotherapy. On them, the patient masters the skills necessary for independent work on himself, as well as those necessary for entering society.
  • If the disease has not yet had time to manifest itself detrimentally, then the patient is prescribed consultation with a psychologist, which determines the plan for further treatment of the patient.

Famous schizoids

Geniuses who move civilization forward, as you know, are sometimes separated from madness by a very thin, barely noticeable border, so it is not surprising that among them there were people with a variety of deviations. Famous schizoids were such people as Arthur Schopenhauer, Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, Salvador Dali, Dmitry Mendeleev, Isaac Newton, and many others.

The schizoid personality type, as a rule, is expressed by introversion, which manifests itself in an enhanced mode. The individual creates an imaginary "dome of comfort", being in which gives peace and measured perception of the realities of life. Interpersonal relationships are usually poor or non-existent. There is a contrast of perception in relation to other people and animals, that is, a close attachment to representatives of the animal world and alienation in human relationships. Any sphere of life is associated with loneliness and unwillingness to change, compete, and ambitiously achieve something. Even the sexual aspect of life is expressed either in the complete absence of real sexual contact, or in the presence of a short-term relationship, but only in adulthood. This type of personality is not subject to fashion trends. In work, their choice falls on overwhelming, difficult activities that an ordinary person would refuse.

Examples of "schizoids" among prominent figures

If we consider the statistical data on individuals with a schizoid personality type, which are found among the entire population in 7.5% of cases, then we can conclude that a significant proportion of mentally unstable people. Gender separation in identifying the frequency of manifestation of schizoid personalities is not particularly observed, but, according to some reports, the ratio tends to be 2: 1, where the preponderance will be on the side of men.

Surprisingly often among famous figures there are those who have a schizoid personality type. Examples? A lot of them. These are outstanding scientists - Albert Einstein, Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev, Isaac Newton, and famous philosophers - Immanuel Kant, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Arthur Schopenhauer, and brilliant composers - Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and the famous artist Salvador Dali, and many other.

The schizoid type of character is not always the prerequisite for the disease

Any person has inherent traits that determine the schizoid type of character. Thanks to them, an individual can manifest himself as an innovator, a thinker or a person with creative potential. The schizoid type of character, as a predominant trait of a person, can result in the fact that he will be more devoted to theory than to the emotional aspects of real life. Average people do not always understand the hobbies of schizoid personalities, sometimes these hobbies even seem bizarre to them.

The main nuance of such behavior is the futility of theoretical ideas. Emotional satisfaction is achieved in the process of solving a problem, and not in its practical implementation. On the contrary, there is a conscious departure from transferring the idea to the commercial sphere. An interesting feature is the schizoid personality type. She expresses her steadfastness about her popularity among the masses or the influence of money.

What is a schizoid in childhood?

Every parent worries about their child from the moment of his birth and, as they say, to gray hair. The schizoid personality type is subject to certain disorders. Treatment is more effective if the deviations appear at an early age, starting from 3-4 years. The child unconsciously withdraws from parental affection and prefers to engage in solitary activities alone. There is an interest in everything philosophical - these can be eternal questions about life and death, and about the emergence of everything that exists, etc.

How does the schizoid position himself in his youth?

At a later age, people with a schizoid personality type can observe a tendency to complex mathematical calculations, but at the same time, a complete inability to solve elementary problems in everyday life. The schizoid personality type, which manifests itself at an early age, usually leads to a progressive form of autism.

As for the drug treatment of the disorder, an ineffective result can be noted. According to statistics, schizoid individuals do not seek treatment for this disease, but are treated for other diseases, in particular, alcoholism. If, nevertheless, a schizoid personality type was diagnosed - what to do in this case, a specialist in the field of psychiatry will advise.

Psychotherapy as the main treatment for schizoids

An effective method of treating a patient with a schizoid personality type is psychotherapy, during which the doctor offers a list of standard emotions that the patient must get to know and try to survive. Role-playing games within the framework of social life can also be offered, the essence of which is to instill generally accepted social behavior that is acceptable in certain situations.

Causes of disorder in schizoids

A pronounced personality disorder of the schizoid type manifests itself in the first years of an individual's life. The period of development of this type of disorder is very long.

There is no genetic predisposition to schizoid disorder. Even, for example, at work, the patient can achieve significant success, but only in an isolated area. At the same time, others may not be aware of his illness.

Symptoms of schizoid disorder include:

  1. Emotional indifference or mild emotion in relation to the events taking place around.
  2. A constant state of isolation, thoughtfulness, seriousness and aloofness.
  3. The almost complete absence of the need for interpersonal relationships.
  4. No need to defend your opinion.
  5. Recognition of the truth of information only if it comes from trusted sources, for example, is presented from the words of honored scientists.
  6. Non-standard thought processes, especially in the analytical field.
  7. Helplessness in everyday life.

The most important factor on the way to the relative stability of schizoid personalities throughout life is the correct choice of profession and periodic diagnostics by a psychotherapist.

The result of crossing two radical types

Along with the four dominant personality types, there are also smoothly flowing ones, namely:

I. Schizoid-hysterical personality type.

II. Hystero-schizoid personality type.

Despite the fact that these psychotypes come from the main categories, they are fundamentally different from them. These are self-existing personality types.

The reason for the appearance of such a combination may be the crossing of different personality types of one and the second parent in their child, but only under the condition of clearly defined initial types that have equal strength and do not drown out each other. Most often, in this combination, the schizoid type takes the primary position, and not the hysteroid type, because it is more stable.

Summarizing the above information, we can talk about the allocation of the main and secondary types, but without completely suppressing the second. In particular, the individual's need for introversion, which is understood both as isolation, from the point of view of the schizoid, and as the presence of deep contact from the point of view of the need for society, is already a feature of the hysterical personality type.

If you are a schizoid, the test will definitely show it

R. Cattell's personality questionnaire, which is able to conduct both a quick diagnosis of a personality type and an in-depth study of it, has received extensive demand among psychologists. It will allow you to recognize, if any,
schizoid personality type. The test characterizes personality with 16 factors that allow predicting behavioral actions in projection on the real world. This technique can be carried out both individually and in groups, capturing various areas of application: personnel, professionally oriented, consulting, etc.

What is the final result of diagnostics according to R. Cattell's method?

The methodology is represented by 105 professional questions. The questionnaire makes it possible to diagnose with high accuracy the individual traits of a particular person, which are called "constitutional factors", according to the method of R. Cattell. A prerequisite for diagnosing a patient is the limited time. The technique allows to identify emotional, intellectual, communicative properties, including the ability to self-regulate the diagnosed individual.

Thus, the psychologist receives the final result in the form of a psychographic personality profile.

This professional program is used in the work of various specialists: psychologists, teachers, doctors, personnel specialists, psychotherapists.

The practical significance of the results of diagnostics according to the MMPI2 questionnaire

The second modern method of psychodiagnostics, which is no less important and popular than the R. Cattell questionnaire, is the MMPI2 questionnaire.

Its use greatly simplifies the procedure for selecting applicants, based on the required personal characteristics. Further use of the methodology will help to track and identify employees engaged in professional activities that do not correspond to their psychographic personality profile, which will subsequently lead to an increase in productivity and minimization of risks. Programs allow you to establish personal characteristics, the level of intellectual and professional training, the main motivational impulses for activity, competencies, development potential, etc.

The areas of application can be various types of psychological counseling, career guidance, career selection, harmonization of relationships in teams, and much more.
