Mark Hamill as Luke

Revenge of the Sith

The first time we see Luke is in Revenge of the Sith, where he was just born. His role is insignificant and it is played by some little dude.

So Luke was born in medical center Polis-Massa, just before her twin sister Leia in 19 BBY, in the year of the formation of the Empire and the extermination of the Jedi. His mother was a senator, and his father was a fallen knight.

Luke's mother died after giving birth, and in order to hide the children from the Empire, the Jedi decided to separate them. Leia became the adopted daughter of Senator Bail Organa, and Luke ended up on Tatooine with Uncle Owen Lars and his wife.

Obi-Wan personally delivered the child to the Lars, after which he settled on Tatooine, becoming to look after the little boy.

With early childhood Luke began to manifest his powers of the Force. His uncle Owen was against it, so he often scolded the boy.

Youth

At the age of twelve, Luke dreamed of going to distant stars, but his uncle tried to make him forget his dreams. He told the boy about the Clone Wars, lying that his father was just a cargo pilot. Despite this, Skywalker continued to seek adventure, developing his skills in piloting and repairing the various gadgets he inherited from his father.

In his youth, Luke had the nickname "Worm". The boy had few friends, with some of them he dreamed of entering the Imperial Academy to become a pilot. Luke's best friend was Biggs Darklighter., who left him in 1 BBY to follow his dream.

To all his uncle's persuasion to let him go, Luke received the strictest refusal.

New Hope

The second time we meet adult Luke is in the 1977 film A New Hope. In this and subsequent parts, his role is played by Mark Hamill. From this moment, the Canonical story of the hero of the universe begins again.

Skywalker's adventures began when his uncle bought two droids and R2-D2. In one of them, Luke discovered a message addressed to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Going in search of the hermit Ben, the young man learned another story of his father, who, according to Kenobi, was a Jedi who was killed.

Returning home, Luke found his uncle and aunt dead. Skywalker had no choice but to follow along with Ben and the droids to Alderaan in order to deliver the R2 droid, which contained the plans for the Death Star, to the rebels.

To get out of Imperial-occupied Tatooine, Luke and Ben hired the brave captain of the Millennium Falcon and his assistant. To pay off Khan, Luke sold his flyer.

On the ship, Ben gave Luke his first strength lessons, which he struggled with.

Arriving in the Alderaan system, the team found the planet destroyed. Trying to get away from the fighters, the Falcon was pulled by the Death Star. The team successfully hid from the enemies, and when they found out that Princess Leia was on the ship, they decided to save her. Luke, accompanied by Han and Chewbacca, went to rescue the princess while Ben abandoned them.

After freeing Leia, the friends were able to escape from the Death Star only thanks to Kenobi, who sacrificed himself by merging with the Force in a short fight with Vader. Luke was saddened by the loss of his teacher.

Battle for Yavin

Traveling to the Rebel base on Yavin with Leia, Luke was immediately drawn into the war with the Empire. He offered Khan to stay with the rebels and help them in the battle against the Empire, but he refused.

Luke became a pilot with the call sign Red-5 and the final battle against the Death Star, with the help of Han Solo and the Force, who came to the aid, destroyed the Empire's superweapon.

Palpatine: « I sense a great disturbance in the Force.»

Darth Vader: « I feel it too.»

Palpatine: « We have got new enemy: A young rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt that the boy is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker.»

By destroying the Death Star, young Luke became a hero of the Alliance, along with his friends Han and Chewbacca.

Luke and Leia

Fight with the Empire

Skywalker continued to fight the Empire, aiding the Alliance. He participated in many battles, was promoted to lieutenant commander and led some missions. Among the fighters in space, Luke felt at home, so he often made sorties with the Red and Rogue Squadrons. He also took part in the battles on earth, seeing all the horrors of war.

In one of the ground battles, Luke met an old friend, Sunber, who was an Imperial officer.

First encounter with Vader

The hero's first encounter with Darth Vader took place in 2 ABY on the planet Mimban. Then, in the fight, Skywalker won, cutting off the Sith's mechanical hand. This victory was only due to the spirit of Kenobi and the Kaiburr crystal, which gave Luke strength.

The Empire Strikes Back

Vision of Skywalker

In 3 ABY, the hero arrived with Rogue Squadron on Hoth, where the Alliance base was located. In one of the reconnaissance, Skywalker disappeared into the endless snows of the planet. He was dying when he saw the spirit of Kenobi advising the young man to become a student of Yoda, on Dagobah. Luke could have died, but he came to the rescue true friend Han Solo.

During the battle for the planet, the Alliance was defeated, leaving the base on Hoth. Luke left friends on the advice of Ben, he went to Dagoba, where he found Yoda and became his student.

Since Luke was already old, learning the Jedi arts was difficult for him, but his potential was huge.

One day, Yoda sent a hero into a cave where the Dark Side of the Force languished. Luke saw himself there in Vader's armor. In the cave, Skywalker witnessed the capture of Solo and Organa in Cloud City. Without finishing his studies, he decided to go to the rescue of his friends.

Yoda and Luke

The Loss of an Arm and the Terrible Truth

Luke arrived at Cloud City late. Khan was placed in carbonite and given away, while everyone else became hostages of the Empire. Sensing Vader in the Force, Skywalker found him and fought. This time, without outside help, Luke expected defeat. The Dark Lord cut off the hero's right hand and tried to incline him to the Dark Side, revealing the terrible secret that he was his real father.

Darth Vader: « Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father?»

Luke Skywalker: « Quite enough! He said you killed him!»

Darth Vader: « No. I'm your father!»

Upon learning the truth, Luke rushed into the mine, refusing the sieve. He caught on the floating city's antenna and was soon picked up by Leia in the Falcon, who contacted him through the Force. The Falcon's crew lost Solo, but acquired a new legendary pilot, Lando Calrissian.

Like his father before, Luke lost his right arm, which was replaced by a cybernetic prosthesis.

Superweapon "Tarkin"

A new mission for Luke and his crew on the Falcon was the destruction of the Tarkin superweapon. Vader, who was at the station, was waiting for the arrival of the Jedi and wanted to grab him, but the attempt on his life spoiled the plans of the Dark Lord. The Falcon successfully completed the mission, leaving the station when Vader followed them in his personal fighter. After the destruction of the Tarkin, Vader was the only survivor. To remove the sieves from the tail, Luke poured a coolant into space, which turned into an ice wall and into which Vader landed.

Shira Bree

After becoming commander of Rogue Squadron, Luke fell in love with a pilot named Shira Bree. But in one of the battles, he accidentally knocked her down, for which he was removed from the post of commander. Taking on the investigation of this case in order to be reinstated, the hero learned that Shira was an agent of the empire. (The girl survived by becoming a half-cyborg known as Lady Lumiya).

In order to make himself a sword, Luke went to Tatooine to the old Kenobi hut, where he assembled a sword with a green blade.

Return of the Jedi

In 4 ABY, Skywalker learned that Han Solo was on Tatooine with Jabba. Luke arrived at the Hutt's palace when half of his team had already been captured: Leia, Chewbacca, and two droids. To free his friends, the hero had to fight a terrible rancor. The hero almost died in the mouth of the sarlacc, yet he showed everyone his abilities as a Jedi.

Saving Leia

After rescuing his friends, Luke returned to Yoda to complete his training, only to find the old master dying. Dying, Yoda declared Skywalker a Jedi Knight and told the secret of whose twin sister Leia Organa was.

Returning to the rebels, Luke went on a mission to Endor to disable the field generator protecting the second Death Star that the Empire was building in orbit around the planet.

Sensing Vader's presence, Luke himself surrendered to the Imperials, after which he stood face to face with himself. They tried to seduce Skywalker into the dark side of the Force, but the young Jedi held on, trying to bring his father back to the light. Vader, reading his son's thoughts, began to threaten the conversion of his sister Leia, after which Luke showed the prerequisites for the dark side by starting the battle and cutting off Vader's hand. Skywalker stopped the fight when he saw his father's mechanical right hand like his own (the vision on Dagobah when Luke saw himself in Vader's armor). The Emperor ordered Vader to be killed, but Luke refused.

Palpatine used Force lightning to kill the Jedi, but Vader couldn't watch his son die. Returning to the light, Anakin Skywalker sacrificed himself and threw the Emperor into the Death Star's reactor.

Luke granted his dying father's wish to remove his mask by looking for the first and last time at his burned face. Anakin merged with the Force, and Luke took his body, which he cremated on Endor, after the victory of the Alliance.

The Force Awakens

As you already know, Diney canceled the entire written Star Wars story and continued to make "similar" films. So, Luke Skywalker appeared in The Force Awakens Movie 7.

After the Emperor's overthrow, Luke reportedly began rebuilding the Jedi Temple and recruiting Padawans. One of his students was Ben Solo, the son of Leia Organa and Han Solo.

Over the years, he taught his students the art of the Jedi, until Ben, who was captivated by the history of his grandfather Darth Vader, decided that this path was best for him. He became a member of the Dark Knights of Ren, taking on the name and joining the First Order, the remnants of the Empire, killing all of Luke's Padawans.

Skywalker was disappointed by such an oversight that he decided to go into exile.

For many years, Luke stayed at the first Jedi temple on an island on a distant planet, until the Millennium Falcon arrived on the island, with a young Force-sensitive girl who returned Luke his sword lost on Bespin.

After the war

Legends begins after Return of the Jedi Part 6, before Disney purchases the studio.

After the death of the Emperor, Luke continued to cleanse the universe of the remnants of the Empire. His first student was Kiro, an Iskalonian whom he met on the planet Iskalon.

In 8 ABY, Han Solo and Luke's sister Leia married, and in 9 ABY, Organa Solo became pregnant with twins and . A year later she gave birth to another child.

Meeting Mara Jade

The Empire was not going to give up its positions at all, so the war with the remnants continued even after the death of Palpatine.

A new problem was Admiral Thrawn, who tried many times to capture the Jedi and often succeeded. So, running away from Thrawn, Luke met smuggler Talon Karrde and his assistant. Unknown to Luke, Mara was the Emperor's right hand and wished to kill the Jedi. In spite of desire to solve Skywalker, Jade had to work side by side with Luke.

A crisis in the galaxy has forced Luke and Mara to take on many missions together. Little by little, they began to form a friendship. Skywalker saved the girl from death more than once and even taught her the Force.

Return of Palpatine

In 10 ABY, Luke flew to Coruscant while being attacked by Imperial forces. While fighting on the surface, Luke ended up on a Jedi prisoner ship that transported him to the planet Byss, where Skywalker was surprised to see Emperor Palpatine alive. Palpatine's spirit survived and was infused into the copy's body.

Feeling the boundless power of the Emperor, Luke agreed to become his servant. With no chance of victory, Skywalker set out to destroy the evil from within. Luke neglected the main instruction of Master Yoda - he underestimated the power of the dark side.

Leia did not allow Luke to completely go to the dark side. Having learned some secrets of the dark side, Skywalker fought Palpatine and won.

New Order

The Republic needed the Jedi Order, and Luke became the founder of the Praxeum on Yavin, starting to accept small yurlings for training.

Among the talented students, Luke singled out Kyp Durron, who had great potential. However, Kyp was soon influenced by the spirit of Exar Kun and turned to the dark side by attacking Skywalker. In this fight, Luke's spirit was severed from his body, sending the Jedi into a comatose state. Only after the destruction of Kun, Luke managed to bring himself to life.

Returning to the light, Kip was given into the hands of Skywalker, who was to judge him for the destruction of Karida, but Luke left the young man alive. Durron went on to become a prominent Jedi of the New Order.

Wedding

Skywalker had many affairs, but not one went as far as marriage. It seemed that Luke was destined to be alone all his life, but a new joint assignment with Mara Jade brought the Jedi and the former Imperial agent closer than ever. Skywalker offered Jade a hand and a heart, to which she agreed. Ten years after the first meeting, the couple got married in the capital of the Republic.

Yuuzhan Vong War (Legend)

In 25 ABY, the galaxy was mired in the most brutal war with a previously unknown Yuuzhan Vong race. The Jedi were the first to take the hit...and lost.

At the very beginning of the war, a friend of the families of Luke and Khan, Chewbacca, died.

The birth of a son

Another problem for Luke was the illness of his wife, infected with an unknown virus. Despite the illness, Mara still gave birth to a son named Skywalker, in honor of Obi Wan Kenobi..

dark times

The Jedi once again became a central figure when the Yuuzhan Vong demanded their surrender in exchange for peace. Many simply turned their backs on the defenders, wanting to send them to their deaths. So, the Senate issued an arrest warrant for Skywalker and his wife. However, Kyp Durron tricked the Republic fleet by destroying the Yuuzhan Vong worldship, ending the truce.

The Yuuzhan Vong understood that they could control the galaxy only after the destruction of the Jedi, so they created voxyn - predators designed to kill the Jedi. To destroy the voxyn, 17 young Jedi went into battle. Luke's nephew, Anakin Solo, died in this struggle.

Although the voxyn were destroyed, the Yuuzhan Vong captured the capital city of Coruscant.

Victory

Soon the Republic was transformed into the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. Luke and his son went on a journey to the Unknown Regions, in which he was supposed to find a solution to the conflict with a hostile race. So, Skywalker and Ben found intelligent planet Zonama Sekot, who was persuaded to help in the war.

Zonama Sekot made a direct jump into the Coruscant system, where she caused confusion and chaos in the ranks of the Yuuzhan Vong warriors and priests, and stirred the heretics into rebellion.

In 29 ABY, the final battle for Coruscant took place, which the Jedi won by convincing the Yuuzhan Vong to surrender.

After the victory, Luke gathered the surviving Jedi and set them on a path to serve the Force.

After Zonama Sekot departed, Luke heard the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi for the last time.

The war was over. Luke founded the Academy on Ossus, and a few years later accepted his son Ben, whose teacher was Jacen Solo.

New War (Legend)

By 40, the Galactic Alliance began to resemble the Empire, forcing the Jedi to work for them. To show their power, the Alliance started a war with Corellia. This war divided the Skywalker and Solo families, who were different sides barricade.

At this time, Jacen Solo fell to the dark side, lured by Lady Lumiya. Luke felt it in strength, however, did not yet know that it was his nephew. Skywalker suspected that the person from his visions was Jacen and worried about his son, who was still his student, but Mara convinced her husband that Solo was the best. the best teacher. To make sure that there is no dark side in Ben, Luke fought him in a duel.

Luke and Mara began to take better care of their son, whom Lumiya had her sights on. More and more they began to suspect Jacen, wanting to separate him from Ben. But every trap that his nephew set for the Skywalkers he could deftly explain.

Luke and Mara wanted to find Lumiya and destroy her. Luke met with her in more than one fight, but she always slipped away.

Mary's death

Soon, Mara learned that Jacen had given Ben a mission to kill the head of the Corellian rebels, which he completed. For this, Jade wanted to kill Solo. She met him in a duel in which she was killed by a poisoned dart. After her death, Jacen proclaimed himself Darth Caedus.

Luke was mad with grief. He believed that his wife was killed by Lumiya, whom he soon found and executed.

Mara was buried on Coruscant, where her killer was also present, afraid of being discovered. During the time Jacen stood next to Luke, Mara's body merged with the Force. Skywalker did not take this sign correctly, deciding that he should make peace with Solo.

The reign of peace

In the end, when another crisis began to brew in the Galaxy with the participation of the new Sith Lord. Jacen Solo revealed his true identity as Darth Caedus.

Luke is back on a mission to free the world from a tyrant. But defeating Caedus was destined for Jaina Solo, the sister of the Sith Lord. The Galactic Alliance of the new tyrant was defeated. Peace has returned to the galaxy.

Skywalker was not immortal. In extreme old age, the Grand Jedi Master merged with the Force, leaving his mortal body.

Christensen as Anakin

Birth and childhood

The hero's mother was Shmi Skywalker from the planet Tatooine. He did not know his father, but there are rumors that he was a Sith who could control midi-chlorians. Since this is not confirmed, it is believed that the boy was artificially conceived.

He was born in 42 BBY on the desert planet Tatooine, but Anakin himself assumed that he had only grown up on an arid planet, where he arrived at the age of about three years.

Eni grew up as a blue-eyed, kind-hearted, hard-working boy who dreamed of one day becoming a star pilot. But his dreams were not destined to come true, since the Skywalkers were the property, slaves of Gardulla the Hutt.

After several years of working for Gardulla, he lost his family in races to a Toydarian, a parts dealer named Watto, and the Skywalkers found a new owner.

At the age of eight, Anakin first learned about the Sith. About the great wars of the past, he was told by an old Republican pilot who believed that not all Sith died in those wars and one managed to survive.

The hero was a very gifted child. He excelled in mathematics and engineering. At such a young age, Eni could collect anything. So he built his own car and robot , having completed the work around the age of nine.

In the 1999 film The Phantom Menace, we first meet a boy played by actor Jake Lloyd.

In 32 BBY, when the hero was only 10 years old, his life changed dramatically. Knowledge of technology and good nature allowed Eni to get acquainted with space travelers: Jedi, Gungan, R2-D2 and a girl - which he mistook for an "angel".

Anakin invited the new friends to his home to wait out the sandstorm, where he learned their true purpose of coming to Tatooine - fleeing the Trade Federation for the senate on Coruscant in order to stop the invasion of Naboo. The travelers' hyperdrive was broken and Eni volunteered to help, revealing a desire to race the Bunta Eve Classic in order to win enough money to buy it. The mother could not refuse her son, in his desire to help.

Anakin, Shmi and Amidala

Qui-Gon Jinn saw Skywalker's potential, his lightning-fast reaction, and after checking, he was surprised to learn that his level of midi-Chlarians was higher than that of himself. Anakin, in turn, was very eager to become a Jedi in order to help everyone, which prompted Qui-Gon to think of freeing the boy.

Before the race, Jinn made a bet with the owner of the Skywalkers. But on the condition of Anakin's victory, Watto agreed to let go only the boy, leaving his mother with him.

The hero won this race. Now he was free. Anakin was faced with a choice: live on Tatooine with his mother, or go with Genie and become a Jedi. Skywalker left Tatooine, promising that he would return to free his mother.

Jake Lloyd as little Anakin

So Anakin set out on his first journey.

With Qui-Gon and Queen Amidala (the girl pretended to be her own servant), to whom Eni became very attached, he arrived on Coruscant, where he appeared before the High Council. The Council refused to train the boy, even though Qui-Gon was convinced that Anakin was the Chosen One (the One who would bring balance to the Force).

The boy experienced the emotions left over from the life of a slave, so the masters felt that he could not achieve the state of peace that a true Jedi needs.

Qui-Gon, Anakin, Obi-Wan and R2-D2

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear breeds anger; Anger breeds hatred; Hatred is the key to suffering. I feel a strong fear in you.

Not knowing where to go now, Anakin trailed Jinn with whom he flew to Naboo on a mission to liberate the planet from Trade Federation occupation.

Coincidentally, Anakin took a direct part in the Battle of Naboo in space. He single-handedly managed to destroy an entire orbital station, who controlled the droids on the planet, ending the invasion.

Although Skywalker emerged victorious, sad news awaited him on earth. In battle with, Kawai-Gon died. The Dying Genie took Obi-Wan Kenobi, his apprentice, with a promise to train the boy and the Council was resigned to the fact that Anakin would become trained in the Force.

After the victory on Naboo, the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic himself promised to follow Skywalker's progress.

Obi-Wan's Apprentice

Innate abilities instantly put Eni above their peers, which began to nourish his pride. He often showed off, opposed the opinions of his elders, and did not show much respect for Obi-Wan, whom he looked down upon somewhat.

Obi-Wan became more than just a teacher to Anakin, he was like a father to him. Secretly, Skywalker believed that his strength was many times greater than the strength of his teacher and Kenobi restrained him. This fact made their relationship confusing and contradictory.

When Anakin did not get along well with Kenobi, he went to his "friend" Palpatine, who flattered the Jedi's pride with praise.

In 28 BBY, Anakin created his first lightsaber in the caverns of Ilum..

Attack of the Clones

Attack of the Clones is the second film in which we see Anakin. Its events take place 10 years after the end of the plot of the first part. In this film, the grown-up Anakin is played by actor Hayden Christensen.

Skywalker and Kenobi

In 22 BBY, Padmé Amidala, now Senator for the Chommell Sector, was assassinated. Anakin, who had not seen Padmé in ten years, was appointed as her personal protector. For ten years, Skywalker did not stop thinking about Amidala, and now that he was with her, his attraction grew into love.

On Naboo, where Padme was hiding with her protector, she answered him with consent, kissing him for the first time. Amidala was more prudent than Skywalker as she thought about the consequences. Anakin, on the other hand, was focused on feelings, breaking with the Order's tradition of being bound only to the Force.

For a long time, Anakin suffered from nightmares in which he saw his mother. A new nightmare he saw on Naboo caused him to defy orders to protect Amidala, taking her with him to Tatooine to find Shmi. On Tatooine, the hero learned that the mother was freed by the farmer Cliegg Lars, who married her. At the Lars farm, Eni was told that Shmi had been kidnapped by Tusken raiders, so the hero immediately rushed to find her.

Skywalker painting

Using his instincts, Anakin found Shmi, though it was too late. The mother died in his arms. This death caused such anger that the Jedi slaughtered the entire tribe of raiders. including women and children. Even Yoda felt Skywalker's pain and anger.

With the death of his mother, the Jedi had a terrible desire to obtain such power, with which you can save people from death.

Padme: « There are things that cannot be fixed, you are not omnipotent, Anakin.»

Anakin: « And there should be! One day I will... I will be the most powerful Jedi! I promise you. I will learn how to make people not die!»

Arriving on Tatooine, Anakin learned that his master had been taken prisoner by the Confederacy on Geonosis. Skywalker's goal was to protect Amidala, but she persuaded the Jedi to go to save Kenobi. Eni left Tatooine, taking his droid C-3PO with him.

Arriving on Geonosis, the couple were captured and put up, along with the previously captured Obi-Wan, in the arena of gladiators. Before the threat of death, Anakin and Padme confessed their love to each other. The trio was saved from certain death by the arrival of the Jedi and the clone army.

Leaving Amidala, Eni and his teacher began to pursue the leader of the Confederation and a former Jedi (note: Qui-Gon Jinn's teacher). Skywalker lost an arm in a fight with him. and almost died if Yoda did not come to the rescue.

Dooku cuts off Anakin's hand

Anakin was implanted with a mechanical arm and while he was in the Temple for treatment, Yoda and Kenobi tried to convince Amidala to end their relationship with him. Padmé lied and she and Skywalker soon married. A secret wedding ceremony took place at Varikino on Naboo. The only witnesses were the droids C-3PO and R2-D2.

Clone Wars

This war made Anakin a legend. He became famous as the best fighter pilot, earning the rare title of Tang.

In the war, Skywalker didn't care own life, as he worried about the health of his teacher, Palpatine, the soldiers who acted under his leadership, and even the astrodroid R2-D2. More and more rules were broken by the Jedi. More and more he feared for Padmé's life.

Anakin vs Ventress

On a mission to the planet Naboo, Skywalker met Asajj Ventress, a dark Jedi who became a fierce enemy of both Anakin and Kenobi.

During the war, Obi-Wan took on the training of Padawan Halaged Ventor, with whom Anakin became very good friends.

The Clone Wars was a terrible event in the life of a Jedi. During the battles on the planet Jabiim, Skywalker received a message about the alleged death of a teacher. This made the hero more reckless. He threw himself into the thick of things along with clones, Padawans and Jedi. When Palpatine wished to evacuate Anakin from the planet, he agreed, soon learning that everyone he fought had died.

For his heroic actions in the war, Anakin was declared a Jedi Knight. The cut off scythe of the Padawan, Skywalker sent to his wife as a token of love.

Arriving on Coruscant, Anakin wanted to meet his wife, but fell into the trap of Asajj Ventress. The Dark Jedi promised to kill Amidala, which again plunged Skywalker into a rage. In this duel, the hero received his famous scar over his right eye. He emerged victorious, but Ventress managed to survive.

Anakin continued to participate in the battles for the Republic. While fighting on the planet Christophis, his first apprentice was assigned to the Jedi. After the victory on Christophis, Anakin, though reluctantly, accepted the Padawan.

Anakin and Ahsoka

Together with Ahsoka, Eni completed quite a few missions. Together, they rescued Jabba's son, participated in a mission to liberate the planet Kyros, rescued Jedi Master Plo Koon,

Although Anakin and Ahsoka became friends, Tano left the Jedi.

In the Battle of Coruscant, when the Confederacy invaded, the Republic managed to win, but Chancellor Palpatine was captured.

Revenge of the Sith

Skywalker and Kenobi went to save the chancellor. After finding Palpatine, the Jedi engaged Count Dooku in battle. The Count was still strong, so he quickly knocked out Kenobi by crossing swords with Anakin. War-hardened Skywalker suddenly won, chopping off both of the Sith's arms.

After ordering Palpatine to kill Dooku, the Jedi beheaded him, taking another step towards darkness. To the chancellor's persuasion to abandon Kenobi, Anakin refused.

Returning to Coruscant, the hero learned the news that his wife was pregnant. After that, Anakin increasingly began to be tormented by visions where he saw the death of Amidala. Because of them, the Jedi wanted to gain access to the forbidden holocrons of the masters of the past. This was facilitated by Palpatine, who appointed Skywalker as his representative on the Jedi Council. This meant that Eni was supposed to become a master, but he still did not increase his rank.

The final point of distrust of the Council was that the Jedi asked Anakin to keep an eye on his friend Palpatine.

The Jedi turned to Yoda for help. He spoke about his prophetic visions in which a person close to him dies, but did not reveal his identity. Yoda advised him to learn to let go of everything that he is afraid to lose. Skywalker was not satisfied with this answer.

Despite the Council's warnings, Anakin continued to spend time with Palpatine, who began to develop a dark side in him. The Chancellor told a story about Darth Plagueis (his teacher) who had power over death. This story made Anakin think that the dark side could save Padmé's life.

When Palpatine revealed his identity - Darth Sidious, the Sith Lord, offering Skywalker the path of the dark side to save his beloved, Anakin refused, reporting everything.

Windu, along with Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, and Kit Fisto were supposed to arrest the Sith when Anakin was supposed to stay at the Temple. But, of course, he didn't listen. Tormented by thoughts of Amidala's death, Skywalker followed the Jedi. Arriving at the chancellor, the hero found Windu, who was about to kill Palpatine. The fear of losing Padmé overwhelmed Anakin as he cut off the master's hand and allowed Palpatine to win.

It was too late to repent, there was no going back. Palpatine explained this as the Jedi's destiny and offered to join the dark side. The Sith Lord promised to discover the secret of power over death, so Skywalker agreed to become Darth Sidious' apprentice in order to save Amidala's life.

So, Anakin Skywalker "died", becoming legendary.

« Now get up… Darth Vader!”

Darth Vader is one of the most iconic villains in cinematic history. His image is easily recognizable, and the phrase "Luke, I'm your father" has firmly entered our lives, becoming a meme and an occasion for numerous parodies and jokes. Now the next movie from the Star Wars series has been released - Rogue One, and in it we will see Darth Vader again. Here are 15 interesting and little-known facts about the Dark Lord of the Sith for everyone who loves this saga. And may the Force be with you!

15. He had military rank

Everyone knows that Darth Vader is the right hand of Emperor Palpatine, but not everyone is aware that the title "emperor's emissary" was created specifically for him. It gave him enormous military powers. That was why he had the right to take command of the Death Star battlestation, despite the fact that it already had a commander - Wilhuff Tarkin. As the emperor's apprentice and envoy, Vader became, in effect, the second-in-command in the empire, with titles like Dark Lord of the Sith and Warlord. And later, after taking control of the Executor - the largest Imperial warship - he apparently officially became the Supreme Commander.

14 Imperial Propaganda Claims Anakin Skywalker Died In The Jedi Temple

James Luceno's sci-fi book "Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader" reveals that after the events of Episode 3 ("Revenge of the Sith"), everyone in the galaxy was convinced that Jedi Anakin Skywalker - the Chosen One - died heroically on Coruscant during during the battle at the Jedi Temple. Imperial propaganda also supported this official version, and Vader spent the next twenty years trying to forget the past and erase his previous identity.

Most of the inhabitants of the galaxy, ruled by the new Galactic Empire, are also convinced that the Jedi Order not only rebelled against Councilor Palpatine, forcing him to take drastic measures and destroy the Jedi, but also had a hand in unleashing the clone wars. The truth that Anakin went over to the dark side and betrayed his comrades in the temple, almost no one knows (only survivors like Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda). This is how the situation looks at the beginning of the original trilogy.

13. After learning about his children, he planned to betray the emperor

Although fans know that Vader betrayed the emperor at the end of Episode 6 ("Return of the Jedi"), his motivation has never been explained. After the Battle of Yavin, Vader assigned the bounty hunter Boba Fett to find out all about the rebel that had destroyed the Death Star. It was then that he was informed that the man's name was Luke Skywalker. Realizing that Palpatine has been lying to him all these years and that his children are alive, Vader becomes furious. This explains his motivation and offer to help Luke overthrow the emperor in "The Empire Strikes counter attack"Vader planned this in full accordance with the Sith code of conduct: an apprentice will never rise higher until he is rid of his master.

12. He had three teachers and many secret students

After Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader, he trained the Sith as well. So, according to the plot of the video game "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed" Vader, planning a plot to overthrow Palpatine, secretly took several students. The first of these was Galen Marek, alias Starkiller, a descendant of the Jedi killed by Vader during the Great Purge. Vader trained Marek since childhood, but Marek died on the Death Star shortly before the Rebel Alliance was founded. Vader then created a perfect and much more powerful clone of Marek using his genetic template. This clone - the Dark Apprentice - was supposed to take Marek's place. The next student after him was Thao, a former Jedi Padawan (this story is considered non-canonical today). Vader then took on several more students - Haris, Lumiya, Flint, Rillao, Hethrir, and Antinnis Tremaine.

11 He Tried To Learn To Breathe Without A Safety Helmet

Many people remember the scene from the episode "The Empire Strikes Back" when at some point Vader is shown in the meditation chamber - he is without a helmet and the wounded back of his head is visible. This special pressure chamber was often used by Vader to practice breathing without a protective helmet and breathing apparatus. During such sessions, he felt unbearable pain and used it to increase his hatred and dark force. Vader's ultimate goal was to gain enough power from the dark side to be able to breathe without a mask.

But he could do without it for only a few minutes, because he was too happy to be able to breathe on his own, and this joy was not combined with dark force. This is also why he so wanted to unite with Luke, so that their common strength would help him not only to throw off the power of the emperor, but also to free himself from his iron armor.

10 Even The Actors Didn't Know Vader Was Luke Skywalker's Father During Filming

An unexpected plot twist, when Darth Vader turns out to be the father of Luke Skywalker, is perhaps one of the most famous in the history of cinema. During the filming of The Empire Strikes Back, this plot was kept strictly secret - only five people knew about it: director George Lucas, director Irvin Kershner, screenwriter Lawrence Kazdan, actor Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and actor James Earl Jones, voiced Darth Vader.

Everyone else, including Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo), only learned the truth by attending the movie premiere. When the confession scene was filmed, actor David Prowse spoke a line given to him that sounded like "Obi-Wan killed your father", and the text "I am your father" was overwritten later.

9. Darth Vader was played by seven actors

Voice actor James Earl Jones gave Darth Vader his famous deep, booming voice, but in the original Star Wars trilogy, Vader was played by David Prowse. The six-foot-tall British champion weightlifter was perfect for the role, but had to be re-voiced due to his thick Bristol accent (which made him furious). Bob Anderson acted as an understudy who performed combat tricks - as Prowse constantly broke lightsabers.

Sebastian Shaw played the unmasked Vader in Return of the Jedi, Jake Lloyd played the young Anakin in The Phantom Menace, Hayden Christensen played the grown-up Anakin in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Spencer Wilding plays Darth Vader in Rogue One.

8 He Originally Had A Different Name And A Different Voice

Since Darth Vader is the central character in Star Wars, it's no surprise that this character was written first when the script was created. But at first his name was Anakin Starkiller (it was this name, according to the plot of the video game "The Force Unleashed" that he secret student). The original trailer for Star Wars was written in 1976 by legendary director Orson Welles. It was in the voice of Wells that George Lucas wanted to voice Darth Vader, but the producers did not approve of this idea - it seemed to them that the voice would be too recognizable.

7. According to one theory, it was created by Palpatine and Darth Plagueis

Anakin Skywalker's mother, Shmi Skywalker, says in The Phantom Menace that she carried and gave birth to Anakin without a father. Qui-Gon is understandably taken aback by this claim, but after testing Anakin's blood for midi-chlorians, he is convinced it is indeed the result. immaculate conception, exclusively under the influence of the Force. Then everything else is logical: the power of Vader, high level midi-chlorians in the blood and the status of the Chosen One - the one who must bring the Force into balance.

But one fan theory suggests a darker and more real opportunity Anakin's birth. In Revenge of the Sith, Advisor Palpatine tells Anakin about the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise, who knew how to use midi-chlorians to create life. According to this theory, either Plagueis himself or his apprentice Palpatine could experiment and create Anakin in an attempt to obtain a powerful ruler of the Force.

6. Over the suit and sound effects the whole team worked

As originally planned by Lucas, Darth Vader did not have any helmet - instead, his face was wrapped in a black scarf. The helmet was supposed only as part of a military uniform - after all, you need to somehow move from one starship to another. In the end, it was decided that Vader would wear this helmet at all times. Both the helmet and the rest of the ammunition of Vader and the Imperial military Lucas were inspired by the uniforms of the Nazis and the helmets of Japanese military leaders. Vader's famous heavy breathing was created by sound producer Ben Burtt. He placed a small microphone in the mouthpiece of a scuba regulator and recorded the sound of his breathing.

5 Actor David Prowse And Director George Lucas Hate Each Other

The feud between Lucas and Prowse has become legendary among the Star Wars crew. At first, Prowse thought that his voice was being used for the film and was terribly upset by the voice acting. During the filming of episodes 5 and 6, Prowse ruined the lives of everyone on set by not bothering to say the lines that were written in his role, and instead chatting some kind of nonsense. For example, it was necessary to say "Asteroids do not excite me, I need this ship," and he calmly said: "Hemorrhoids do not excite me, I need to take a shit."

Prowse was also upset that he was replaced as a stunt double for the fight scenes despite being physically fit. But he kept breaking lightsabers. Lucas later accused Prowse of leaking secret information that Vader was Luke's father. The actor also did not like the fact that the audience would not see his face on the screen: Vader without a mask was played by another actor. The strained relationship between Lucas and Prowse came to a head when Prowse starred in the 2010 anti-Lucas film The People vs. George Lucas. This overwhelmed the director's patience and he struck Prowse out of all future Star Wars productions.

4 There Was An Alternate Ending In Which Luke Becomes The New Vader

"Return of the Jedi" ends with good guys win and everyone is happy about it. But Lucas originally intended a darker ending to his sci-fi saga. Consistent with this alternate ending, the battle between Skywalker and Vader and the subsequent scene with Vader and the Emperor's death lead to a different outcome. Vader also sacrifices himself to kill the emperor, and Luke helps him remove his helmet - and Vader dies. However, Luke then puts on his father's mask and helmet, says "Now I am Vader" and turns to the dark side of the Force. He defeats the rebels and becomes the new emperor. It was this ending that would have been logical, according to Lucas and his screenwriter Kazdan, but in the end, Lucas decided to make a happy ending, because the film was designed for a children's audience.

3. Alternate ending from the comics: Jedi again and all in white

Since we are talking about alternative endings, here is another one - from the Star Wars comics. In accordance with this version, both Luke and Leia are standing in front of Palpatine, and the emperor orders Vader to kill Leia. Vader is stopped by Luke, they fight with lightsabers and as a result of the duel, Vader is left without an arm, and Luke reveals to him the truth that he and Leia are his children, after which he boldly announces that he will no longer fight Vader.

Here the fun begins: Vader falls to his knees and asks for forgiveness, again returning to the light side of the Force and becoming Anakin Skywalker. The Emperor manages to escape, the second Death Star is destroyed, but Leia, Luke and Vader manage to leave it together. They later meet aboard the Command Frigate Home One, and Anakin Skywalker is still dressed as Darth Vader, but all in white. The Skywalker Jedi family decides to hunt down and kill the emperor, which they most likely succeed because they are a gang.

2. This is the most profitable Star Wars character

The creators of Star Wars managed to make a lot of money on their characters by selling related products, toys and the like. The army of fans of this saga is huge. On the Internet there is a special "Wookiepedia" - an encyclopedia of "Star Wars", with detailed articles about everyone and everything that anyone can edit. But no matter how much other heroes of the saga are loved, Darth Vader is the most popular, cult character and, of course, it is on this image that one can earn the most. With merchandising revenues of over $27 billion in 2015, for example, it's safe to assume that Darth Vader is worth billions - he's a big part of that pie.

1. On one of cathedrals there is a chimera in the form of Darth Vader's helmet

Believe it or not, one of the towers of Washington Cathedral is decorated with a gargoyle in the shape of Darth Vader's helmet. The sculpture is located very high and it is difficult to see it from the ground, but with the help of binoculars it is possible. In the 1980s, the National Cathedral together with the magazine national geographic announced children's competition for the best decorative chimera sculpture to decorate the northwestern tower. A boy named Christopher Rader took third place in this competition with his drawing of Darth Vader. After all, the chimera must be evil. And this sketch was brought to life by sculptor Jay Hall Carpenter and stone carver Patrick Jay Plunkett.

”, during which the viewer observes his formation as a conductor of the Force, his transition to dark side Powers and his ultimate redemption. After turning to the dark side of the Force at 19 B.C. b. adopted the name Darth Vader . It is revealed in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi that he is the father of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa. The only character (other than R2-D2 and C-3PO) to appear in all six episodes "in the flesh" (Obi-Wan Kenobi only appears as a ghost in episodes V and VI, and Yoda and Palpatine do not appear in episode IV).

Anakin Skywalker

However, Anakin took the first step to the Dark Side of the Force long before these events - when on Tatooine he exterminated the entire tribe of the Sand People, avenging his mother Shmi Skywalker. Anakin's next move to the dark side of the Force was to kill the unarmed Count Dooku on the orders of Chancellor Palpatine. And finally, he took the decisive step when he betrayed the Jedi Master Windu and helped Palpatine defeat him.

Suppression of the Rebellion

Darth Vader commanded armed forces Empire. The rebels sometimes mistook him for the Leader of the Empire, but forgot about the Emperor. He instilled fear in the entire galaxy. Thanks to the brutality of his operations, the rebels had a hard time. In general, he is indirectly guilty of the beginning of the war: while still a Jedi Knight, he foresaw the death of his wife and, of course, did not want this. Darth Sidious, aka Palpatine, was then the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic and used this to lure Anakin to the dark side. After Anakin became Darth Vader, order number 66 came into force, after which most of Jedi Knights were destroyed, and Grand Army Republic in accordance with the charter came under direct control Supreme Chancellor. During the rebellion, Vader played the role of a target to be eliminated by the rebels, as well as a deity for the Empire. He acted without miscalculations and misfires. Vader was a war genius. Any miscalculation on the part of subordinates was severely punished by his favorite measure of torture - strangulation at a distance. Darth Vader and Darth Sidious, unlike the other Sith, had full access to the Jedi data archive. At any moment, they could look at the dossier on any Jedi or event. Due to his punitive functions and unconditional devotion to the Emperor, he commanded the respect of his soldiers, and among the rebels he received the nicknames "The Emperor's Chain Dog" and "His Majesty's Personal Executioner".

Darth Vader

In the original Star Wars trilogy, Anakin Skywalker appears under the name "Darth Vader". He was played by bodybuilder David Prowse and two stunt doubles (one of them - Bob Anderson), and the voice of Vader belongs to actor James Earl Jones. Darth Vader is the main antagonist: the cunning and cruel leader of the army of the Galactic Empire, which rules the entire galaxy. Vader appears as a student of Emperor Palpatine. He uses the dark side of the Force to prevent the collapse of the Empire and destroy the Rebel Alliance, which seeks to restore the Galactic Republic. On the other hand, Darth Vader (or the Dark Lord) is one of the greatest figures in the Star Wars universe. As one of the most powerful Sith, he is well liked by many fans of the anthology and is a very charismatic character.

New Hope

Vader is tasked with recovering the stolen Death Star plans and finding secret base Rebel Alliance. He captures and tortures Princess Leia Organa and is by her side when the Death Star Commander Grand Moff Tarkin destroys her home planet of Alderaan. Shortly thereafter, he fights lightsabers with his former teacher Obi-Wan Kenobi, who came to the Death Star to save Leia and kills him (Obi-Wan becomes a spirit of the Force). He then meets Luke Skywalker in battle on the Death Star, and senses in him a great ability in the Force; this is confirmed later when the youth destroys the battle station. Vader was about to shoot down Luke with his TIE Fighter (TIE Advanced x1), but a surprise attack Millennium Falcon, piloted by Han Solo, sends Vader far into space.

The Empire Strikes Back

After the destruction of the rebel base "Echo" on the planet Hoth by the forces of the Empire, Darth Vader sends bounty hunters (Eng. bounty hunters) in search of the Millennium Falcon. Aboard his Star Destroyer, he executes Admiral Ozzel and Captain Niida for their mistakes. Meanwhile, Boba Fett manages to locate the Falcon and track its progress to gas giant Bespin. Finding that Luke is not on the Falcon, Vader captures Leia, Han, Chewbacca, and C-3PO in order to lure Luke into a trap. He makes a deal with Cloud City administrator Lando Calrissian to turn Khan over to bounty hunter Boba Fett, and freezes Solo in carbonite. Luke, who at this time is undergoing training in the possession of the light side of the Force under the guidance of Yoda on the planet Dagoba, senses the danger that threatens his friends. The young man goes to Bespin to fight Vader, but is defeated and loses his right hand. Vader then reveals the truth to him: he is Luke's father, not Anakin's killer, as Obi Wan Kenobi told the young Skywalker, and offers to overthrow Palpatine and rule the galaxy together. Luke refuses and jumps down. He is sucked down a garbage chute and thrown towards Cloud City's antennas, where he is rescued by Leia, Chewbacca, Lando, C-3PO, and R2-D2 on the Millennium Falcon. Darth Vader tries to stop the Millennium Falcon, but it goes into hyperspace. Vader then leaves without saying a word.

Return to the Light Side

The events described in this section take place in the film"Star Wars. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi »

Vader is tasked with overseeing the completion of the second Death Star. He meets with Palpatine aboard the half-completed station to discuss Luke's plan to turn to the dark side.

During this time, Luke had nearly completed his Jedi training and learned from the dying Master Yoda that Vader was indeed his father. He learns about his father's past from the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and also learns that Leia is his sister. During an operation on the forest moon of Endor, he surrenders to Imperial forces and is brought before Vader. Aboard the Death Star, Luke resists the Emperor's call to unleash his anger and fear for his friends (and thus turn to the dark side of the Force). However, Vader, using the Force, penetrates Luke's mind, learns of Leia's existence and threatens to turn her into a servant of the dark side of the Force in his place. Luke gives in to his rage and almost kills Vader by chopping off his father's right hand. But at that moment, the young man sees Vader's cybernetic hand, then looks at his own, realizes that he is dangerously close to the fate of his father, and curbs his anger.

As the Emperor approaches him, tempting Luke to kill Vader and take his place, Luke throws away his lightsaber, refusing to land a fatal blow on his father. In anger, Palpatine attacks Luke with lightning bolts. Luke writhes under the Emperor's torture, trying to fight. Palpatine's anger grows, Luke asks Vader for help. At this time, the confrontation between the Dark and Light Sides rises in Vader. He is afraid to rebel against the Emperor, but his son is very dear to him. The Emperor nearly kills Luke when Anakin Skywalker defeats Darth Vader and Vader returns to the Light Side. He grabs the Emperor and throws the Death Star into the reactor. However, he receives fatal lightning strikes.

Before he dies, he asks his son to take off his breathing mask so he can look at Luke "with his own eyes". For the first (and, as it turned out, the last) time, father and son actually see each other. Before he dies, Vader admits to Luke that he was right and the Light Side remained in him. At the same time, he asks his son to convey these words to his daughter, Leah. Luke leaves with his father's body as the Death Star explodes, destroyed by the Rebel Alliance.

That same night, Luke cremates his father as a Jedi. And while celebrating victory on the forest moon of Endor, Luke sees the ghost of Anakin Skywalker dressed as a Jedi, standing next to the ghosts of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda.

Fulfillment of prophecy

Upon first meeting Anakin, Qui-Gon Jin considers him the Chosen One, the child who will restore the balance of the Force. The Jedi believed that the Chosen One would bring rebalancing through the destruction of the Sith. Yoda believes that the prophecy can be misinterpreted. In reality, Anakin first destroyed many Jedi in the Temple on Coruscant and a large number of other Jedi during the formative years of the Empire. But 20 years later, Darth Vader fulfills the prophecy by destroying the last Sith - killing the Emperor and thereby sacrificing himself. Thus the prophecy was fulfilled. According to another version, Anakin / Darth Vader restored the balance of the Force differently: as a result of his actions, two Jedi remained (Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi, the latter after the events of the fourth film “replaces” Luke Skywalker) and two Sith (Darth Vader himself and Emperor Palpatine). So the prophecy was interpreted correctly: the balance between the Light and Dark side of the Force was restored.

Armor of Darth Vader

Darth Vader costume- a portable life support system that Anakin Skywalker was forced to wear to compensate for the serious damage he received in a duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar in 19 BC. It was designed to support and protect the charred body of a former Jedi. The costume was made in the ancient traditions of the Sith, according to which warriors of the dark side of the Force had to adorn themselves with heavy armor. The suit was constructed using numerous Sith Alchemy techniques to augment Vader's severely diminished vitality and abilities.

The suit contained a wide variety of life support systems, the most important of which was a sophisticated breathing apparatus, and gave Vader relative freedom of movement without the need for a flying chair. During use, it broke down several times, it was repaired and improved. The suit was eventually irreparably damaged by a powerful bolt of lightning from Emperor Palpatine aboard the second Death Star after Vader saved his son, Luke Skywalker, from near death. After his sudden death, Vader in armor was buried by Skywalker in the ritualistic Jedi funeral ceremonies in the forest of Endor in 4 ABY.

Capabilities

During his Jedi training, Anakin made great and rapid progress. As he improved, he became superb with a lightsaber, moving objects and mastered a number of powerful power abilities (Power attack, jump, and others). Anakin / Darth could reach the peak of his power by destroying his teacher Obi-Wan Kenobi. In a fit of rage, he single-handedly destroyed the Tuscan tribe on Tatooine, with no less courage fought the inhabitants of Geonosis and the droids in the Grand Arena. After destroying all the Jedi, including the youngest ones, in the Temple and decapitating the leadership of the AOG, Anakin began to feed the dark side of the Force. However, the duel put everything in its place - the power of the young Sith was unstable.

After being wounded and encased in armor, Anakin's physical abilities were greatly weakened. However, in return, he acquired amazing strength. The powerful perception, which can be explained by the large presence of midi-chlorians in his body, subsequently also began to improve. Darth Vader could very reliably sense the emotions and feelings of others at a distance, accurately predicting even the most incredible events(in which he surpassed the Emperor) or phenomena, had a serious impact by the Force on the mind and consciousness of the victims. However, after the transition to the Dark Side, however, the aspirations for unlimited power became a dream for Vader for a number of reasons. However, Vader's most famous ability is the Force Choke from a distance.

Darth Vader has his personal modified TIE-Super fighter and manages it perfectly.

Image and creation

The Darth Vader costume worn by David Prowse and Bob Anderson in the original trilogy and by Hayden Christensen in Episode III "Revenge of the Sith" was designed by Ralph McQuarrie, who was asked by George Lucas to sketch the imposing tall figure in exotic black armor. Initially, Vader's costume did not have a helmet - Lucas saw that instead of a headdress, Vader's face should be hidden by a "black silk scarf". However, Ralph McQuarrie added the character's distinctive skull helmet when he read the script for Episode IV A New Hope and learned that Vader would have to travel through the cold vacuum of space in order to board the captured Tantive IV at the beginning of the film. Vader's reasons for wearing armor, of course, eventually became far more complex.

Many of the original parts of Vader's costume came from Berman's & Nathan's costume designer. The costume was designed by costume designer John Mollo.
