Didn't score a passing grade in the exam. What are the chances to enter the budget: by the number of points, by university, by specialty

Advertising

In Russia, the USE 2018 campaign is coming to an end, and even the second wave of exams is coming to an end. However, checking exams takes time, and at the moment, graduates are waiting for the latest USE results of the first wave.

Someone already now understands that they scored not enough points - much less than the student expected before passing the exams. Someone did not wait for all the results and is worried about what to do if there are not enough points. What if I didn’t get the required scores in the Unified State Examination, is it possible to enter the institute, what other options remain for the applicant in 2018.

What do you mean you didn't get the required points?

First of all, it is worth, of course, to figure out what “few points for the exam” are. Some of the graduates studied perfectly all their lives and hoped for at least 80-90 points for each exam, scored an average of 77 and believes that life is over. And someone generally failed the Russian language or mathematics and runs the risk of being left without a certificate of education as such, whether to go to college at all.

Two situations can be spoken of as a small catastrophe:

  • the student could not pass one of the mandatory exams (Russian language or mathematics) and runs the risk of being left without a document on education,
  • the student did not score the minimum scores for the USE, which were established by Rosobrnadzor (we provided a table of minimum scores for each USE on our website earlier).

The way out of the first situation is a retake. At the moment, those students who were unable to pass the mandatory USE in 2018 in the first wave know about it and even managed to retake the exams for the additional stage of the USE. The results of these exams will come on July 10-11.

If, following the results of retaking the mandatory USE, the graduate gains enough points, and he has complete order with the USE results of his choice, you can try to enter a university in the same year, the Therussiantimes portal writes. If the exams are failed again, retake is possible only in September. Of course, you can forget about the institute, at least in 2018.

If a graduate has successfully completed the mandatory USE, but one of the elective exams failed, and the number of points scored is below the minimum, you will not be able to enter the institute. Universities simply do not have the right to accept applicants if they provide USE results below the minimum threshold from Rosobrnadzor. Even for paid education.

The first way out is to enter in a year

There is nothing wrong with this option. Retreating from the first small difficulty, forgoing higher education because of a minor setback, is not the best start to adulthood. Even if the student is used to the fact that everything goes to him easily and simply, it's time to learn to get what he wants.

A graduate needs to understand that a missed year is not scary at all. It is better to get a higher education diploma a year later than not to have it at all. Unless, of course, it's really that important.

What to do during this year - you decide according to the situation. Most likely, young people risk the army, and it will be a little easier for girls.

But the main thing to do this year, if you are not in the army, is to diligently prepare for the exam retake. The results of those exams that suit you will be valid for four years, so you can focus on a problematic subject, in which the USE was passed with too low scores.

Remember that graduates of previous years take the exam before the main wave - in the spring. So you will have less than one year to prepare.

The second way out is to enter the institute for a paid department

This is a way out for those who scored few points in the Unified State Examination, but still more than the minimum that closes the way to universities.

If all options with admission to the budget are impossible or uninteresting, enter the paid department. Of course, there must be financial opportunities for this. You may have to study and work at the same time.

The third way out is to get a secondary specialized education

This output is suitable for everyone. Even if you failed both mandatory exams and retake is impossible (and if you don’t pass two mandatory exams at once, the situation is just that), you can always use a certificate for the ninth grade.

With this certificate, you can enter a college, technical school or other secondary educational institution. We advise you to pay attention to colleges at universities. Quite often, these institute or university-affiliated colleges are the providers of applicants for them.

Whether the college or technical school works at the university or on its own, in any case, the road to the university after its completion is not closed to you.

Whatever situation you find yourself in and no matter how hopeless it may seem to you, in fact, if you set yourself the goal of getting a higher education, you will get it. And it is still unknown which university graduate will achieve greater success - an excellent student who is used to getting everything easily or one who has already learned to overcome life's difficulties by the time he receives his diploma.

Each graduate is well aware that in order to successfully enter the specialty of interest, it is necessary to prepare well for the Unified State Exam 2018 and score the highest possible points. What does it mean to “pass the exam well” and how many points will be enough to compete for a budget place in a particular university? This will be discussed in this article.

We will cover the following important questions:

First of all, it is important to understand what exists:

  • the minimum score that gives the right to receive a certificate;
  • the minimum score that allows you to apply to the university;
  • the minimum score sufficient for real income to the budget in a particular specialty at a particular university in Russia.

Naturally, these figures differ significantly.

Minimum certification score

The minimum attestation scores of the Unified State Examination are set for compulsory subjects - the Russian language and mathematics at the basic level, and in 2018 are:

Having overcome this threshold, but not reaching the minimum test score, the examinee will receive a certificate, but will not be able to apply to the university.

Minimum test score

The test minimum is the threshold value that gives the right to enter the university. In other words, persons who have overcome the test threshold theoretically have the right to join the fight for budget places. Although, in practice, it is almost impossible to enter highly rated universities with minimal performance.

In 2018, in all subjects, except for the Russian language and basic mathematics, the test minimum USE scores coincide with the attestation ones and are:

Thing

Minimum test score

Russian language

Mathematics (basic level)

Mathematics (profile level)

Social science

Literature

Foreign language

Biology

Informatics

Geography

The principle of calculating the success of passing the unified state exam assumes that the subject must demonstrate a high, average or sufficient level of knowledge, corresponding to grades "5", "4" and "3" in the school scale.

In case of an unsatisfactory result, as well as when passing a score that the examinee considers insufficient for himself, graduates are given the right to retake the exam.

Minimum score for admission to the budget

Most universities announce the threshold score required for applicants for a budget place. This allows each applicant to realistically assess the prospects for admission and choose universities and specialties based on the points scored in the USE.

In 2018, you can focus on the fact that last season the average passing scores in all subjects of the Unified State Examination among applicants who entered MGIMO and other highly rated universities in the capital fluctuated between the threshold value of 80-90. But, for most regional universities of the Russian Federation, 65-75 points can already be considered a competitive result.

Converting the primary score to the resulting one

By completing the tasks proposed in the USE ticket, the examinee gains the so-called primary scores, the maximum value of which varies depending on the subject. When evaluating the level of knowledge, such primary scores are converted into the resulting ones, which are entered in the certificate and are basic upon admission.

With the help of an online calculator, you can compare primary and test scores in subjects of interest.

Just like last year, in 2018, the points scored while passing the USE affect the score of the certificate and, although the table for comparing the test score and traditional marks has not been officially adopted, you can roughly compare your scores right now using a universal calculator.

Please note that the average passing scores for different specialties in the same university can vary significantly. This figure reflects the minimum score of applicants who entered the budget, and tends to change every year. The results of 2017 can only serve as a kind of guideline for applicants in 2018, motivating them to achieve the highest possible results.

There are many factors that affect the minimum passing score, including:

  1. the total number of graduates who have applied and the scores indicated on their certificates;
  2. the number of applicants who provided original documents;
  3. the number of beneficiaries.

So, having seen your last name in 20th place in the list of a specialty that provides for 40 budget places, you can confidently consider yourself a student. But, even if you find yourself on this list of 45, there is no reason to be upset if among those standing in front of you there are 5-10 people who provided copies of documents, because most likely these people are tuned to another university and applied for this specialty as a fallback .

Graduates have already begun to receive their USE scores, and for many, the result came as a shock. How is it - I have been preparing for so many years, spent so much time and energy on tutors, and the scores, let's say, are not what I wanted!

To put it mildly, this is a slap in the face! - complains Elena, mother of a graduate from Nizhnevartovsk. - The daughter-medalist wrote her thoughts in an essay on the Unified State Examination in the Russian language. And got 0 points! And so it is with many talented students. Punished for your own opinion!

I don’t understand how an excellent student, a participant in mathematics olympiads, can pass the exam in this subject with 70 points, Oksana, mother of an 11-grader from Kazan, shakes her head. - The son is now just in a trance of some kind. Previously, he wanted to enter the MIPT, he burned, and now he says that he will go to the army, since it happened so.

Sometimes parents just add fuel to the fire, and, frankly, they can be understood - preparing for exams costs a pretty penny. They break down on their own and on children. The regions have already begun to receive reports of guys who committed suicide after the announcement of the exam results. But the hardest part - entering a university and waiting for the results - is yet to come!

Therefore we asked family psychologist Mikhail Zotov tell how to survive the results of unified exams and cope with the situation.

STRESS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

The hysteria around the exam is now colossal. The exam is scolded by everyone who is not lazy: it is both too complicated and too simple, and they write off everyone who is not lazy, and draconian security measures.

Wherever you spit - it's not like that! Got a hundred points? So this exam was easy! Got 20? You're a fool, you should have studied better. Caught with a cheat sheet - even more so! And no matter what grade the child receives, there will always be a reason for worry.

Even when the exam has already been passed, the graduate is under great stress, - Mikhail Sergeevich is sure. - Everyone has their own expectations associated with his result - parents, teachers, himself, in the end. And when these expectations do not match the results, the student experiences disappointment and anger. This anger can be directed at oneself, at the parents - they did not support, or at the school - they did not teach.

Parents, by the way, have their own reason for dissatisfaction. So much money spent on tutors - and all in vain, or what?

It is important for parents to catch this feeling in themselves: I have invested so much in your studies, but it turns out that everything has gone nowhere, - says Mikhail Zotov. - It is doubly difficult for a child in such a situation: he himself is upset by his failure, even if he does not show it. And the inconsistency with the expectations of parents only exacerbates this, adds a sense of guilt and shame.

In general, not emotions, but a Molotov cocktail! Add raging teenage hormones - and the conflict is guaranteed. As if only family quarrels were not enough for the child.

EMERGENCY PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE

What to do in a situation where everything is already on the nerves? First of all, try to accept the situation as it is. There are no ways to change the USE scores by magic. Even on appeal, at best, they can raise the score by a couple of points - but even the most supportive commission will not turn 70 points into 100.

It is necessary to realize the situation here and now, - Mikhail Sergeevich continues. - Yes, it's a disappointment, but life is not over. It is important to give the child positivity and support. If a teenager did not pass the exam or did not enter a university, this does not mean that he is bad! It only means that he prepared less than necessary.

Instead of quarrels and mutual accusations - who didn’t do what and how - it’s worth sitting down and thinking about a further strategy together.

You need to talk with a teenager and think about which university you can try to enter, - the psychologist leads the strategy. - Immediately prescribe where he will go if he does not go there. And what will he do if he is not admitted to any of the selected universities at all. Maybe in general it makes sense to work out more and retake exams next year.

IMPORTANT!

Six tips: What to do if you flunked the exam

File an appeal for disagreement with the results. This can be done within 2 working days from the date of announcement of the results. But it is worth remembering that on appeal they can either raise or lower the grade.

Choose another specialty. Within the framework of one direction of training at the university there can be several specialties with different passing scores. You can apply to places where the threshold is lower.

Choose another university. Trite, but if you wish, you can always reapply for the next year, or simply transfer while maintaining the course.

Work out and pass the exam for the next year. Certificates with points are valid for four years, so if the attempt fails, you can always apply for the old results.

Go to college. For many specialties - for example, designers or jewelers - there is no way without it at all.

Try to find a part-time job in the intended specialty. Not for the sake of money, but to immerse yourself in the profession, gain experience and understand how it suits the graduate.

Don't be discouraged if your passing score isn't too high. A successfully passed EPGE / OGE will help to enter the budget (or, in general, at least just to enter). And a certain number of points will even help to enter the budget!

Where is it realistic / unrealistic to enter on the budget?

The average USE score of those admitted to the budget will vary greatly depending on which university they enter.

As a rule, the highest USE / OGE passing scores for admission to the budget are in the most prestigious universities in the country: St. Petersburg State University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow State University, MGIMO, HSE, etc. To get here, you will have to score at least 90 points.

But applicants with a passing score of 80 may well qualify for a place in almost any other university. True, the minimum USE score for admission to the budget in each case needs to be found out separately, because it can depend not only on the university itself, but also on the specialty you are applying for.

From 60 to 80 - these are the points needed to enter the budget in public educational institutions that are not related to the top ones, but nevertheless provide a very high level of education to their students.

Another point that is important to pay attention to when raising the question of whether it is difficult to enter the budget is which city you are going to enter. Of course, the larger the city, the greater the competition. And this means that the requirements for the number (sum) of USE scores for admission to the budget will be higher than for less popular cities.

Is it difficult to enter the budget: requirements for different specialties

Choosing a university is not everything. To enter the budget, it is important to take into account not only the passing scores in a particular university, but also in a particular specialty.
By the way! For our readers there is now a 10% discount on

And now, so that you can navigate and accurately calculate what chances you have to enter the budget, let's look at the main areas and begin to soberly assess our own strengths so as not to waste time.

The “coolest” specialties: from 75 points

So, here are the specialties and directions, without scoring at least 75 points, you can consider that you didn’t enter (what to do - we’ll say later):

  • Foreign languages;
  • International relationships;
  • Oriental and African studies;
  • Linguistics.

Typically, the average score in these areas can vary between 80-82 points.

A little less (75-80 points) will be needed for other equally popular destinations:

  • Philology,
  • Jurisprudence,
  • Political science,
  • Economy,
  • Literary creativity,
  • art theory,
  • Journalism,
  • Advertising and PR.

Directions of average "coolness": 70-75 points

What to do to enter the budget for specialties related to medicine, philosophy, nuclear physics or public services? You will have to score from 70 to 75 points.

Here is a list of areas that require an average of this number of points:

  • healthcare,
  • Nuclear physics,
  • Municipal and state administration,
  • Information security and business informatics,
  • Publishing,
  • Story,
  • Design,
  • Cultural studies and philosophy.

Standard directions: 65-70 points

If you are often tormented by the thought “I’m afraid not to enter the budget!” - relax! There are always specialties that are easy to enter, and then it is not difficult to study. Another thing is that you can’t build a special career later, but this is already the tenth thing.

So, here are the most massive areas, for admission to which you will have to score 65-70 points:

  • Pedagogy,
  • Management and personnel management,
  • Tourism, service, hospitality (service sector in general),
  • Psychology,
  • Chemistry,
  • Biotechnology,
  • Sociology,
  • religious studies,
  • Librarianship and archives.

Availability of exact sciences: 60-65 points

What are the chances of getting into the budget? Much more if you are a "techie" mindset, not a humanist

Construction, engineering, geology and other exact sciences (natural sciences and physical and mathematical) require a great mind, but, oddly enough, a smaller number of passing marks.

Here you can easily enter the budget in one of the following areas:

  • Biology and Ecology,
  • Physics,
  • Mathematics,
  • Construction,
  • Geodesy, geology, geography,
  • Space technology and aviation,
  • Computing and Informatics,
  • Automation and control,
  • Energy,
  • Oil and gas business,
  • Radio and electrical engineering.

Easier than simple: up to 60 points

If you did not manage to score more than 60 points, do not be discouraged - the fields of technology, transport and agriculture and the following areas are always open to you:

  • railway transport,
  • water transport management,
  • light industry and technology,
  • food industry and technology,
  • Materials Science,
  • engineering,
  • soil science,
  • printing and packaging,
  • agriculture and fisheries.

Why get upset? In these areas, you (unlike many others) will be able to get real practical skills close to production. And despite the fact that such specialties do not shine with prestige, young specialists from such universities are always in demand and will always get a job, unlike newly minted philologists and art critics.

And the most NOT in demand among young people are the following specialties:

  • metallurgy,
  • forestry,
  • marine technology.

To become a state employee of these specialties, 52-55 points will be enough.

In any case, you will first have to find out the number of required passing points, so as not to waste time and enter where you can go, taking into account the points you have scored. This can be done by analyzing the last year's situation. Usually this information doesn't change much over the course of a couple of years, so based on last year's entries, you'll get a pretty good picture of what's in store for you.

You can find out the number of passing points from previous years on the websites of selected educational institutions. Usually everywhere there is an item "Admission Committee", where the average statistical data is published.

However, even a low passing score does not prevent you from striving to score more points. So try to be smart about it.
