Discounts on train tickets for schoolchildren in. Benefits for schoolchildren and students

The state provides benefits for schoolchildren for train tickets in 2018. It consists in providing a discount when buying a ticket for long-distance and short-distance trains. However, the exemption is subject to certain conditions.

When you can carry for free

Children under the age of 5 are entitled to free travel without a separate bed. But this does not relieve parents from the need to purchase a ticket. It is issued when buying a ticket for an adult, subject to the presentation of a birth certificate of a small family member.

Parents can only carry one child free of charge. The trip of the second and subsequent ones will have to be paid at current rates, regardless of the fact that passengers are under 5 years old. But not at full price, but with a discount provided for a child aged 5 to 10 years

Benefits for children aged 5 to 10

Children between the ages of 5 and 10 can only ride the trains when accompanied by an adult. The ticket is purchased separately, but at a discount. It ranges from 35% to 65% depending on the train class and the chosen car.

The discount applies to trips within the country. If you travel to the CIS, then the tariffs may differ. But in any case, benefits are provided for children, so parents do not have to pay the full cost of a ticket for transporting small family members.

You can buy a child ticket at the ticket office of the station after presenting a birth certificate. The purchase is also available when booking via the Internet. But in this case, the travel ticket is only included with an adult - you should take this point into account when planning a group trip.

Persons under 10 years of age travel free of charge in a luxury carriage on domestic trains. But they will have to share one place with their mother or father.

Benefits for schoolchildren on the train

School benefits apply to the purchase of tickets for trips on the "swallow" (train). They are determined by regional authorities and depend on the policy of the subject of the Russian Federation. In most regions, schoolchildren have a 50% discount on ticket purchases. The benefit is valid from September 1st to June 15th (until June 30th in some areas).

Benefit features:

  • in some regions, schoolchildren pay for the train ticket at full cost (for example, in the Tver region);
  • can apply both to all schoolchildren and to persons who have a residence permit in a certain region (for example, in Crimea, a discount is provided only to local residents, and in Moscow - regardless of the region of registration);
  • in some regions you can purchase a monthly subscription with a 50% discount.

To receive the benefit, you will need to provide a certificate from the school. Children over 7 years old can ride the train without adult accompaniment within the region.

The relevance of the benefits to the federal authorities remains in doubt. It is planned to cancel it due to lack of demand for electric trains. Many regions want to abandon this type of rail transport.

For trips on the Sapsan

Since 2016, Russian Railways has introduced a new tariff scale for schoolchildren and students. Children between the ages of 10 and 21 can receive a 30% discount on the fare for the Sapsan high-speed trains. The tariff is valid from September 1 to May 31 inclusive.

The Junior fare applies to the purchase of tickets for economy, economy+ and business class carriages. You can buy tickets at the box office of the station and on the official website of Russian Railways.

For long distance trains

Federal legislation provides for a discount for schoolchildren on train tickets in the form of a 50% discount. It has several features:

  • valid from September 1 to June 15;
  • applies to schoolchildren over the age of 10 (before this age, parents buy a child ticket);
  • to receive benefits, a certificate confirming the status of a student is required;
  • the certificate must be with you at the time of ticket purchase and for the entire period of the trip;
  • if the passenger is already 14 years old, then together with the certificate, he must present a statement that determines the right to the benefit;
  • children over 14 years of age are required to present a passport.

The discount does not apply during the summer. This is due to the fact that many are trying to deceive the employees of the station, passing off their child as a student after graduation.

Summer discounts

Since 2016, parents can buy a ticket for a child on long-distance trains not only during the period of study. For two years in a row, Russian Railways has been providing a 50% discount on travel expenses for children aged 10 to 17. The promotion is valid from June 1 to August 31.

The purpose of the implementation of this action was to increase the number of vacationing children. Since traveling long distances hurts the budget of parents, many refuse to take vacations together. Thanks to a special, "summer" benefit, schoolchildren and students can pay only half the cost of the trip.

Advice. You can use the discount when you actually buy tickets at the station or advance booking 60 days in advance. To do this, when placing an order, you must specify the age of the child.

A feature of the action is the absence of the need to present a certificate from the school. To get a discount, it is enough for a child (parent) to show a birth certificate or passport.

The promotion was valid in 2016 and 2017. It is now projected to be extended until 2019.

How to take advantage

To purchase a school ticket at a discount, you must perform a number of actions:

  1. Get a student's certificate for travel by train. If the child is already 14 years old (or turns 14 on the date of the trip), then a certificate of entitlement to a benefit at an educational institution is additionally issued.
  2. At the checkout, present the birth certificate (passport) of the student and a certificate.
  3. Keep the certificates until the end of the trip - they will be requested by the train conductors.

The certificate is compiled by the principal of the school according to the model and has a unified form containing information:

  • Full name and date of birth of the student;
  • name of the school principal;
  • details of the educational institution;
  • the essence of the certificate (it is indicated that the applied child is studying at school);
  • stamp and signature of the director.

The certificate is valid for one academic year. But in some cases, the station may require a fresh document received no more than a month ago. This information should be verified in advance.

Forecasts for 2018

In 2018, no changes in the provision of benefits for school-age children are predicted. Parents will also receive a 65% and 50% discount for a child under 10 and a student, respectively.

The "Summer Holidays" promotion, which provides a summer discount for all minors, is also planned to be launched before the holiday season.

According to analytical data, the "summer" rate significantly increases the number of traveling students. According to forecasts, from June 1 to August 31, 2018, over 500,000 teenagers and kids will use the Russian Railways service.

Parents of schoolchildren are entitled to a privilege, which consists in providing a discount of up to 65% on the purchase of railway tickets. There are several different tariffs: for an electric train, long-distance trains, high-speed trains. A reduction in the cost of a travel ticket is provided for each of the listed modes of transport. To reduce the price, you will need to provide a certificate from the educational institution and an identity document for a small passenger.

One of the most common questions when traveling with children is what kind of child ticket is needed. Until what age can you issue the so-called "tickets without a seat", is it necessary to issue them and what is it all about. Let's try to figure it out.

Children under 5 years old

Regardless of how old the child is, you need to remember that the age is determined at the time of boarding the train. And if the child’s birthday is after buying the ticket, but before the trip, you need to issue a ticket as if the birthday had already passed.

When you buy child train tickets for a small child, you need to decide what is more important - comfort or money. There are two options to choose from:

- travel with a child in one place, but at the cost of only one "adult" ticket;

- or pay 35-50% of the cost of an "adult" ticket so that the child has a separate seat.

In addition, even if the cost of a train ticket for a child is zero, you still have to get his form at the station or go through electronic registration.

To buy a children's train ticket, you will need child's birth certificate. From May 14, 2019, parents of children under 1 month of age who have not yet received a birth certificate can purchase a ticket by presenting a medical certificate of the child's birth. You can buy such a ticket only at the box office at the station. The certificate must indicate the series and number of the document, as well as the name of the baby.

Children from 5 to 10 years old

If you are traveling with a child older than 5 but younger than 10, then you no longer have a choice. You can't get a free ticket, only a reduced one. It costs only 35-50% of the cost of an adult ticket.

The exact price of a children's train ticket depends on many factors, including the type of car (reserved seat, compartment or SV), and the category of the train (branded or not). In addition, children under 10 years old can travel free of charge in a soft carriage on a ticket without a seat.

Children over 10 years old

Schoolchildren from 10 years old from January 1 to May 31 and from September 1 to December 31 can purchase a ticket with a discount of up to 50%. The discount is valid only for tickets in Russia in reserved seat, general and seated cars of non-branded trains.

The discount does not apply to high-speed trains (No. 701-788), for example, Sapsan, Lastochka, Strizh. The discount is not cumulative with other promotions, valid only for citizens of the Russian Federation.

When issuing a ticket, a certificate from the school is not needed. But the certificate will be required when boarding the train.

School tickets are not issued on the website. They can be bought at the box office and on the Russian Railways website.

Discounts for schoolchildren in Kaliningrad and Abkhazia

On these two routes for schoolchildren from 10 years old there are also discounts up to 50%, but they work only in Russia. And on the territory of Latvia (for a ticket to Kaliningrad) and Abkhazia, the ticket will cost its full price. This means that when buying a ticket, you will need to pay not 50% of its price, but, for example, 70%.

Promotion "Happy holidays"

On the eve of summer, Tutu.ru launches the "Happy Holidays" promotion: tickets for children aged 10 to 17 inclusive are sold at a 50% discount.

From June 1 to August 31, 2019, the discount applies to travel in domestic traffic in reserved seats, common cars, seated cars of fast and long-distance passenger trains (including branded ones), as well as in cars of 2 and 3 classes of multiple unit rolling stock (high-speed trains 800- and numbering). You can buy tickets now, but a maximum of 90 days before the day of travel.

Children's tickets are also available at a 50% discount in compartments of trains running from May 25 to June 1, 2019. The discount does not apply to fast branded trains No. 146/145 Moscow - Nazran.

The discount is applied on the site automatically if the age of the passenger fits the special fare. Discount for the "Happy Holidays" promotion is not cumulative with other existing discounts and promotions.

Children's tickets in "Sapsan"

Sapsan has two rates suitable for children: "Children's" (up to 10 years old) and "Junior" (from 10 to 21 years old).

"Children's" (up to 10 years). The cost of a children's ticket to Sapsan starts from 366 rubles per ticket. The fare applies to all classes of service. When buying a ticket, select "child ticket with a seat".

"Junior" (from 10 to 21 years). The fare gives a 30% discount when purchasing an adult ticket. When boarding the train, you must present a document confirming your age. The tariff does not apply to the purchase of tickets for first-class carriages and negotiation compartments.

On the Tutu.ru website, the discount is applied automatically if the age of the passenger fits the special fare. The discounted price is displayed at the "Order Completion" stage.

Transportation of children in soft wagons

In double compartments of the Soft (luxury) category, which are redeemed only as a whole (for JSC FPC these are service classes 1A, 1I, 1M), regardless of the number of adults traveling, you can carry two children:

  • one child under 5 and one child under 10
  • or two children under 5 years old.

If one adult with a child travels in such a compartment, you need to issue 2 full-fare tickets indicating the data of passengers, an adult and a child. A ticket is bought for a child with a birth certificate.

If two adults with children (one or two children under 10 years old) are traveling in a compartment, then to issue a free ticket for a child under 10 years old, you need to contact the railway ticket office at the station.

Transportation of children in a soft carriage of the train "Strizh" Moscow - Berlin:

  • if an adult passenger is alone in a compartment, he can carry one child under 12 years old (the fare is called "Adult-Single");
  • if two adult passengers are traveling, they can carry two children under 4 years of age (“Family Adult” fare).

Transportation of children in a soft carriage of trains No. 17/18 (Moscow - Petrozavodsk) and No. 23/24 (Moscow - Kazan):

  • if there is only one adult passenger, he can carry one child under 12 years old (“Adult-Single” fare);
  • two adult passengers can carry two children under 4 years of age or one child under 12 years of age (“Family Adult” fare).

If two adults are traveling in a compartment, then to issue an additional children's ticket, you need to contact the railway ticket office at the station.

What documents will be needed when buying and traveling

To buy a train ticket for a child, the most important document for a child is enough - a birth certificate.

The same certificate will be required when boarding the train. It does not matter whether you will receive train tickets for children at the box office or go through electronic registration on the site, you cannot do without a certificate.

To get on the train, you need to show the conductor the original birth certificate or a notarized copy.

Discounts on children's tickets abroad

For trains traveling abroad, there are separate promotions for children. To the CIS and Baltic countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia), as well as to Abkhazia, a child under 5 years old without a seat can be transported free of charge. Child aged 5 to 10 years - with a discount of up to 65%. The discount depends on the length of the route and the country.

In foreign countries for children under 12 years old, the discount is 50%. These are directions: from Moscow to Nice, Paris, Prague and Vienna; from St. Petersburg to Prague and Vienna.

A child under 4 years old can be transported to the following countries free of charge if he does not occupy a separate seat: Poland, China, North Korea, Mongolia. For Finland, the age of the child is higher - up to 6 years. For children from 4 to 12 years old, the discount on a ticket to these countries will be approximately 25%.

Every year, many people plan to go on a trip with the whole family. And of course, it will be more convenient and comfortable for small children to travel by rail.

Riding a train with kids is much more convenient than flying in an airplane - there are no restrictions on movement. You can walk, jump, stand and play with your neighbors. And thanks to the developed infrastructure of the railways in Russia, you can choose from simple to complex routes that will not become tiresome for young travelers.

But, of course, when packing for a trip, questions also arise: is there a Russian Railways children's fare, how can I use it, what is necessary to buy tickets online. We will talk about this later in the article.

Who can use the free ticket

If the baby has not reached the threshold of five years of age, then according to the rules of Russian Railways, you can not pay for it. Each adult is entitled to free transportation of one child. True, a separate place for him will not be provided. But even in the absence of such a place, children will need to issue a free ticket.

If the child is from five to ten years old, then the child tariff of the Russian Railways applies to him. And for those who are over 10, you will have to buy an adult ticket. But in the period from September 1 to May 31, children over 10 years old are offered a 50% discount for traveling on unbranded second-class trains.

How much does it cost to travel for a child

Guided by the rules of Russian Railways, the children's fare up to the age of ten is 30-50% of the cost of an adult ticket. The price directly depends on the class of train and wagon. So, for traveling on international trains, children from 6 to 17 years old use a reduced fare. There are a few more nuances:

  1. If you are traveling with a baby whose age threshold has not reached the age of five, and for some reason he wants to sleep on a separate shelf, then he will have to buy a separate ticket (see Russian Railways children's fare).
  2. If one adult travels with two children under the age of five, then one of them must purchase a ticket with a seat. The discount for the purchase of such a ticket will be up to 65% of the original cost (depending on the type of train).
  3. If small passengers have already celebrated their decade, then the cost of Russian Railways tickets for children will be equal to the adult fare. Moreover, the age of the child is determined not on the date of purchase of the ticket, but on the date of the actual departure.

Note: If the child is under 10 years old, they cannot travel alone. In addition to parents, it can be grandmothers, coaches or teachers who must have a birth certificate for this passenger. No other documents will be needed.

Where can I buy tickets

You can buy travel documents through ticket offices located at the railway station, or at home - via the Internet. In the first case, the parent's passport and the child's birth certificate will suffice.

In the second, only a birth certificate is needed, from which the following data will be needed:

  • number and series of the document;
  • by whom and when issued;
  • the city where the child was born;
  • his gender.

Peculiarities of purchasing railway tickets for schoolchildren

Recall once again that in the time period from September 1 to May 31, the company is holding a promotion for schoolchildren from 10 years old - you can buy children's tickets at Russian Railways, the cost of which is only half of the original price. Going on a trip on a regular train, in general, or you can save 50% of the cost of an adult ticket. And when you travel to the discount looks a little different. It is calculated from the fare for an ordinary train, and the difference between the named fares is paid in full.

In other words, a trip on an ordinary train in a compartment car with a 10-year-old child will not save a single ruble. But the reserved seat can be taken for half the price of an adult ticket.

In order to exercise the right to travel for a schoolchild between September 1 and May 31, a certificate from the school must be presented to the cashier at the railway ticket office.

  1. It should state that this child (full name) is really studying in a certain class and school.
  2. In addition, the certificate must contain information about the legal address of the school and its details, the number and date of issue of the certificate.
  3. It must be certified by the seal of the school and the signature of the director of this institution.

A reduced ticket can only be purchased at the railway ticket office, as this service is not yet available via the Internet.

By the way, having presented the certificate to the cashier, do not rush to part with it! You will need to show it to the conductors when boarding the car.

Children's tariff of Russian Railways: design features

When buying a children's ticket online, remember: you cannot buy such a ticket separately! It must be completed with an adult. In addition, there is a restriction on the purchase of no more than 4 adult tickets.

Consider, for example, the purchase for adults of 4 reserved seats and 2 tickets for babies without a seat (under 5 years old). You must first buy tickets for three adults and one child, and then for the remaining adult and child. The system will not allow you to issue them with separate orders for 4 adults and 2 children.

To enter Roman numerals, with which the series begins, it is necessary to switch the keyboard layout of the language from Russian to English case. You can not enter a dash and do not put spaces when entering a series and numbers of documents, they do not play a special role.

If for any reason there is a hitch when issuing a free children's ticket via the Internet, this can be done immediately before boarding, at the railway ticket office. It is enough to show the cashier your passport, provide the number of the electronic ticket and the birth certificate of the young traveler.

How can you save money when buying

To save on the purchase of children's reserved seat travel documents, you need to know that the cost of Russian Railways tickets depends on the season and tariffs that affect pricing. In other words, this is the relevance of the season for travel, the day of the week on which tickets are purchased, the popularity of this route, the availability of seats and the price of competitors.

By knowing how and when rates change, you can calculate the most favorable time to purchase. It is reasonable to buy the cheapest tickets in the fall and on May 9 (on this day, the price for all routes is halved). The most expensive tickets are for the holidays and the remaining 3 seasons - in the last days of December, in the first decade of March and all summer. The rest of the time the price is at the average level, and sometimes below it.

Fares for Russian Railways luxury class tickets remain unchanged throughout the year. None of the above factors affect them.

Bought earlier - save more

Buying tickets exactly 45 days from the intended date of travel, you have the opportunity to save up to 40%. This applies to trains running within the country.

For international trains, in order to receive this discount, you must purchase tickets 60 days in advance. The same also applies to domestic trains, such as Moscow - St. Petersburg, for example. It should be added that this discount applies to class CB cars and compartments.

How to get additional benefit

When booking tickets via the Internet in Suite SV, an additional discount will be provided. So, by purchasing tickets in both directions at once, you can get additional benefits.

Upon presentation of the Russian Railways Universal Card, the cost of tickets on the Sapsan and Allegro trains will be calculated according to an additional discount system.

Participation in for passengers traveling on long-distance trains will allow you to issue award tickets, by accumulating points for the funds previously spent on them. This program is distributed not only in Russia, but also abroad.

Bonus points can be earned for trips made since December 2013. Points are calculated according to the scheme, where 1 point corresponds to 3.34 Russian rubles. This program does not include long-distance trains, as there is a different discount system for them.

Refundable and non-refundable tickets

Railway transport gives the right to choose: to purchase expensive tickets with the possibility of returning them or to buy a cheap ticket, which can only be returned for a good reason (accident, sudden illness).

Going on a trip, try to save not only your money, but also your time. It will be more pragmatic, convenient and comfortable to issue tickets while at home, through a computer. Websites that specialize in selling tickets online will help you choose the most convenient route and the most favorable time to go on the road.

Have a good trip!

When thinking about the price of a trip by Russian Railways, it is necessary to take into account the discounts and benefits that the state provides for a children's ticket for travel. Due to the fact that a special children's tariff of Russian Railways is provided, the cost of traveling with children will not be so large.

Children's train fare in Russia

To find out how much a child train ticket will cost, you should classify the child into one of the following categories:

  • under five years of age;
  • age from 5 years to 10 years;
  • from the age of 10 to the age of majority (18 years).

Until what age do children enjoy the right to free travel on Russian Railways, as well as what discounts and benefits are provided to them - the answer directly depends on age.

When calculating age, the main thing is not to get confused. For example, if by the day of departure the child is already 5 years old, then it is necessary to purchase a travel card for the category “from 5 to 10 years old”, similarly with the next category. However, if 5 or 10 years old is executed directly on the trip, then the travel card is purchased for the category up to 5 years and up to 10 years, respectively.

Fares for children under 5 years old

When parents take a child on the road, they need to think about the conditions under which his trip will take place - with greater convenience or at the lowest cost.

Based on this, the choice can be as follows:

With one of the adults there will be one common place

This option will be more economical, because Russian Railways provides, under such conditions, a benefit for a free travel pass. It will be enough for the parent to pay in full their ticket for the electric train.

However, this does not mean that a travel card will not be required.

The latter will need to be issued:

  • when buying adult tickets at the ticket office of the railway station or when booking online;
  • before purchasing adult passes or after;
  • directly upon boarding at the head of the train, but possible cash costs should be taken into account.

Availability of a separate place

If an adult considers a separate seat the best option for his child, then you can buy a children's ticket at a discount. The latter is 35-50% of the full cost of an adult travel document.

Only one child under the age of 5 can travel free of charge with an adult. If there are more children, then a ticket is paid for another with a 35-50% discount (if he is given a separate seat). If there are several adults, then one more child can be registered with him.

Ticket prices for children aged 5-10 years

Older children, of course, need a separate place. It is paid according to the same scheme according to the children's fare: 35-50% of the full price for an adult ticket.

The cost varies within the indicated range according to the selected type of carriage (reserved seat, compartment), as well as the brand of the train. Free travel for children under 10 years old on the train are those that follow to the place of stay in a luxury carriage.

The compartment is equipped with only two berths.

To purchase a discount ticket, you need a certificate - a birth certificate or a notarized copy of it. You can buy tickets online.

A child under the age of 10 is not allowed to travel without an adult. The exception is a trip to an educational institution.

Russian Railways ticket price for children over 10 years old

Minor students, unfortunately, pay the full cost of the ticket for travel by railway transport.

There are small discounts for students.

A special 50% discount for school students (over 10 years old) is provided for the period from September 1, 2018 to May 31, 2019.

This applies only to travel in reserved seat, seated and shared carriages. Traveling on high-speed trains of the Lastochka type, as well as in compartment cars and CB category, will cost the full price.

When boarding the train, you will need to present a school certificate, but you will not need it when buying a child pass.

If the student is already 14 years old, then a passport will be required instead of a certificate. But a certificate from the school (with a seal and signature of an authorized person) will need to be presented both when boarding and when buying such a ticket at the box office.

Children of this age category can go to the place of arrival unaccompanied. If a minor moves within Russia with an adult, then a power of attorney from the parents is not required.

Documents for travel of a minor abroad

If a minor goes on a trip with one of the parents, then the consent of the other is not required.

To travel from Russia to another country by train, you will need a child's international passport. If the child is included in the parent's passport, then a document for the child is not needed.

If the passport was issued before March 1, 2010, then a photograph of the child must be pasted into it.

If a minor travels unaccompanied, the consent of either parent is required (provided that the other parent does not object). If parents are absent, then consent is given by guardians or other responsible persons. The document must be notarized.

If a child is taken to the territory of another country by an adult (not a parent), he also needs a power of attorney from the parents, certified by a notary. In the case of traveling with relatives, a document is required that can confirm the fact of kinship.

At any time, the established rules for the carriage of children, including child fares, benefits and discounts, may change. Therefore, when planning a trip with minors, you need to contact the railway ticket office for more up-to-date information.
