Technological disaster. Arzamas railway accident

June 6th, 2015

I probably heard about it at that time, but due to my small age I did not remember. Now I read a post in the feed of a friend and was horrified by the scale of these man-made disasters.

Original taken from pilip_pilipich in Early June 1988 and 1989 ...

June 4, 1988 at the station Arzamas-1 Gorkovskaya railway, at 9.30 happened major accident. As the freight train approached the station, there was an explosion. It was so strong that windows were blown out in many houses located more than 2 kilometers away from the station. The locomotive overturned and was thrown to the side. The station building was partially damaged. Old wooden houses and industrial buildings were severely damaged. Small fires started in many places. The cars went into a ditch, the rails were damaged...

June 3-4, 1989, 11 km from the city of Asha, Chelyabinsk region at the time of the passage of two passenger trains occurred powerful explosion gas-air mixture formed as a result of an accident on the Siberia-Ural-Volga region pipeline passing nearby. 575 people died, more than 600 were injured.

Arzamas tragedy.

June 4, 1988 at 9:32 am at the Arzamas-1 station of the Gorky Railway exploded three wagons of a freight train en route from Dzerzhinsk to Kazakhstan, with 118 tons of industrial explosives intended for mining enterprises. 91 people were killed, including 17 children, 840 were injured. 250 meters of the railway track, the railway station and station buildings, nearby residential buildings were destroyed. The government commission did not establish the cause of the explosion.

Then Arzamas experienced a terrible tragedy. On Saturday, June 4, 1988 at 9:32 a.m., a powerful deafening explosion reverberated throughout the district. A huge plume of smoke rose high into the sky, forming an ominous mushroom shape. It happened on the northwestern outskirts of the city, when three wagons of freight train No. 3115 exploded on the way to the Arzamas-1 station, en route to Arzamas-16 from Dzerzhinsk from the Sverdlov plant. The wagons contained about 118 tons of industrial explosives intended for mining enterprises in the south of the country.
As a result of the explosion of monstrous force, 1530 residential buildings were swept off the face of the earth, engineering communications, transport and public utilities were damaged. A huge funnel with a diameter of 52 meters and a depth of 26 meters (the height of a nine-story building) was formed, into which the mangled wagons with special cargo rolled down. It was this cargo that caused the disaster.

The blast wave lifted into the air everything in the region of half a kilometer from the epicenter. In a matter of seconds, a whole neighborhood of Zheleznodorozhnikov was wiped off the face of the earth. According to official figures from the local administration, 91 people died, including 14 children. But these figures refer only to the residents of Arzamas, and there were cars and buses from Diveevo and other cities at the closed crossing at the time of the explosion. There is practically nothing left of them. The people who died here were buried at home, and therefore they were not included in the funeral list of Arzamas.
Even according to the most rough estimates, 1,500 to 2,000 people suffered that day. It is known for sure that 43 residents of Arzamas became invalids of the 1st and 2nd groups, and 20 received the third. Five children also became disabled. 49 minors from Arzamas lost their parents that day. Seven of them were completely orphans.
27 years have passed since then, but to this day the causes of the Arzamas tragedy have not been fully investigated. And despite the fact that the government commission, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the prosecutor's office, the KGB, and the railway workers themselves were involved in the investigation, the official version of the disaster was never made public. Moreover, it is not even completely known what exactly was in the cars. It is assumed that this is hexogen. At the same time, none of the versions worked out by the KGB and other agencies found confirmation. Initially, the employees of the authorities did not rule out the possibility of sabotage. There was an oil depot near the scene of the incident, and if the train had been closer to it at the time of the explosion, the consequences could well have been even sadder.

There was also a suggestion that the explosion occurred due to a gas leak from a gas pipeline passing under railroad tracks, from an accidental spark thrown out by the wheels of a train. Even a similar experiment was carried out, but he completely refuted this hypothesis. Blaming the explosion on someone's carelessness also failed.
Gradually, life took its course. By November 1988, 11 houses had been built in the new eleventh microdistrict and 300 houses in the private sector in the Kirillovsky microdistrict. Nearly 900 families celebrated housewarming. Today over memorial plaques branches of young birches rustle with the names of the dead as a symbol of the fact that life goes on.

Since then, many years have passed, and a long time ago people stopped disturbing various versions what happened - that's how human memory works. All the details of the tragedy are remembered only by those who buried their relatives and friends, who remained crippled. And also those who endured human pain and impotent anger on their shoulders. It is they who annually on the day of the tragedy gather at the monument to the victims of the explosion in Arzamas and remember, remember, remember ...

Railway accident near Ufa.

The disaster is considered the largest in the history of the USSR and Russia.
In trains number 211 Novosibirsk-Adler (20 cars) and number 212 Adler-Novosibirsk (18 cars) there were 1284 passengers, including 383 children and 86 people of train and locomotive crews.
The train from Novosibirsk was late that night for technical reasons, and shortly before the accident, the oncoming train stopped at an intermediate station for an emergency disembarkation - a woman went into labor right in the car.
Many passengers on their way to Adler were already looking forward to a serene vacation at sea. They were going to meet those who, on the contrary, were already returning from vacation. An explosion of a large volume of gas distributed in space had the character of a volumetric explosion. The power of the explosion was estimated at 300 tons of TNT. According to other estimates, the power of a volumetric explosion could reach up to 10 kilotons of TNT, which is comparable to the power nuclear explosion in Hiroshima (12.5 kilotons). The force of the explosion was such that the shock wave shattered windows in the city of Asha, located more than 10 km from the scene. The column of flame was visible for more than 100 km. Destroyed 350 meters of railway tracks, 17 kilometers overhead lines connections. The fire caused by the explosion covered an area of about 250 hectares. The official version claims that a gas leak from the product pipeline became possible due to damage caused to it by an excavator bucket during its construction in October 1985, four years before the disaster. The leak started 40 minutes before the explosion. According to another version, the cause of the accident was a corrosive effect on outer part pipes electric currents leakage, the so-called "stray currents" of the railway. 2-3 weeks before the explosion, a micro fistula formed, then, as a result of cooling of the pipe, a crack growing in length appeared at the place of gas expansion. Liquid condensate soaked the soil at the depth of the trench, without going outside, and gradually descended down the slope to the railway. When two trains met, probably as a result of braking, a spark arose, which caused the gas to detonate. But most likely the cause of the gas detonation was an accidental spark from under the pantograph of one of the locomotives.

The explosion destroyed 38 wagons and two electric locomotives. 11 wagons were thrown off the tracks by the shock wave. Centuries-old trees were felled within a radius of three kilometers around the epicenter.

Rescue work was carried out by the Commission for emergencies Bashkir ASSR (now - the Republic of Bashkortostan). Ambulance crews and sanitary teams worked on the spot. The victims were evacuated from the scene of the accident by cars, buses, helicopters.

On that day, helicopters were circling over Ufa, there was no information. Helicopters landed on the square behind the State Circus, which Ufa residents have since called “helicopter square”. Here is now a training ground for beginner motorists.
Ambulances literally flooded the city.

At the same time, Mikhail Gorbachev and Nikolai Ryzhkov flew to Ufa. Live teleconferences were organized in the city between local healthcare institutions, Moscow clinics and medical centers USA.
Incidentally, something similar happened in May 2009 in Moscow, when an underground gas pipeline exploded. But, of course, the extent of the damage is difficult to compare.
In one of the carriages, young hockey players from the Chelyabinsk Traktor, born in 1973, rode, all of them were candidates for the youth team of the USSR. That team had real psychology winners. Only in the first two tournaments, when they were 11-12 years old, Chelyabinsk did not win gold. Then for five years only the main prizes were taken - in all competitions. 10 Chelyabinsk hockey players, together with school friends, went to Krasnodar region to rest, and at the same time help in harvesting (the best were taken to the south). But the train did not even have time to cross the border of the Chelyabinsk region.
Here are the names of the dead: Sergey Genergard, Oleg Devyatov, Alexei Kozlovsky, Andrey Kulazhenkov, Artem Masalov, Alexander Mikhailov, Stanislav Petukhov, Sergey Smyslov and Andrey Shevchenko.
And Boris Tortunov, the winner of the Euroleague Cup as part of Metallurg Magnitogorsk, achieved the greatest success in sports from that edition of the Traktor Sports School. It should be noted that the tragedy with the young Chelyabinsk hockey players is not forgotten. Every year in the spring Ice Palace"Tractor" hosts tournaments of youth teams, dedicated to memory who died near Asha.
In 1992, an eight-meter memorial was erected at the site of the tragedy. Every year, a mourning rally is held at the site of the tragedy ...

Until now, people are wondering: what caused terrible disaster, a coincidence, or an explosion that claimed dozens of lives and destroyed part of the city, was a carefully planned terrorist attack?

In peacetime as in war

Thirty years ago, on the morning of June 4, 1988, the inhabitants of the city of Arzamas woke up from terrible explosion. Many thought that the war had begun. shock wave was of such force that houses were damaged within a radius of two kilometers from the epicenter, some buildings were completely destroyed, turning into piles of rubble. The explosion destroyed more than one and a half hundred houses. People jumped out of windows in panic. At first, no one understood what happened, while the dust from the explosion settled, and the police, military and doctors urgently evacuated the victims, everyone was afraid that this was just the beginning of some global catastrophe, and prepared for new terrible events.

Some said it was an oil refinery blowing up. The memory of the Chernobyl tragedy at that time was then more alive than ever. Since the nuclear secret city of Arzamas-16 (now Sarov) was nearby, many decided that something had exploded there, and the dust cloud was mistaken for a "mushroom" from a nuclear explosion. Someone thought that it was the Americans who bombed a nuclear facility. Fortunately, the “war” was canceled that day.

The train "flying" into the air

On the evening of June 4, in order to calm the population that was on the verge of panic, they said on the radio that there was no need to panic - there was an "explosion of explosive cargo", air samples were taken, no life-threatening substances were found in them.

Then the details, of course, were not reported. The newspapers also limited brief information about the incident. But in fact, everything was like this: not far from the city railway station Arzamas-1 exploded three wagons with explosives for mining, which was taken from the Dzerzhinsky plant. Sverdlov. 30 tons of TNT, 30 tons of ammonal and ammonite (industrial explosives), about 60 tons of hexogen and octogen and other dangerous goods were detonated. At the crash site, two giant gates were formed, the radius of the larger one was about 76 meters - a nine-story house could easily fit in it. The city was without gas, water, electricity. The cabin of the electric locomotive was torn off and thrown almost two hundred meters away - only by a lucky chance, the train driver and his partner remained alive.

A tragedy not to be forgotten

For the first time after the explosion, neither the police, nor the military, nor the authorities knew whether there were people in the cars. radioactive substances- and only when they found the accompanying documents (they were carried away from the crash site by several hundred meters), everyone sighed calmly. There was no need to be afraid of the second Chernobyl. But the consequences were still dire.

In the 80s, the population of Arzamas was about 100 thousand people - the explosion affected almost every family, about four thousand had to be evacuated local residents. Nearly a thousand families were left homeless. About 1,500 people were injured, all the ambulances of Arzamas worked at the site of the explosion, and there were so many wounded that they had to be laid out in the yards of hospitals and hospitals. There, doctors provided first aid and treated wounds - even the corridors of hospitals were overcrowded. Then 91 people died - but this is only official information, many local residents are still confident that the true number of victims was simply silenced. Terrible rumors circulated around the city for a long time - about hundreds of dead, that all the wounded had died.

Coincidence or sabotage?

The investigation was long, a specially convened government commission was engaged in it, but it was not possible to establish the causes of the Arzamas explosion. Dozens of versions were worked out, options for a spontaneous explosion of explosives were considered (the most likely - as a result of mechanical damage), a terrorist act, a carefully planned sabotage organized by foreign intelligence services. There was a version and malfunctions of the gas pipeline passing under the railway tracks.

Many locals still believe that it was a sabotage or terrorist attack. Subsequently, they even started talking about a certain mystical version, that what happened was predetermined, but it is not known by whom, either by certain people, or by unknown forces. Like, some time after the tragedy, an unknown person sent Wall calendar with photo Oleg Yankovsky and the day of June 4 was allegedly highlighted on it, and the hands of the clock on the actor's hand stood at four.

But the strangest thing is exactly one year later, on June 4, 1989, only on a much larger scale, it happened near Ufa, on the 1710th kilometer of the Trans-Siberian Railway. Then, as a result of a gas leak from the gas pipeline, two trains exploded at once, killing more than half a thousand people. And, as in the case of Arzamas disaster, it was not possible to establish the exact cause of the explosion.

The explosion in Arzamas thundered in 1988, it was one of major disasters on the Soviet railroad. When approaching the Arzamas 1 station, three wagons of a freight train, which followed from Dzerzhinsk, exploded at once. They contained hexogen, which was required by mining enterprises. As a result of the disaster, 91 people died, the number of victims is about one and a half thousand.

Details of the incident

The explosion in Arzamas thundered on June 4. At 09:32 in the morning, the train was driving through the crossing to the city of Arzamas. Three cars of this train transported 120 tons of explosives, which were intended for mining enterprises in the territory of modern Kazakhstan.

The railway crossing itself is located in the northern part of the Arzamas 1 station. Later, investigators and specialists were able to establish that at the time of the explosion there were 30 tons of TNT in the train cars, as well as another 87 tons of ammonal, ammonite, octogen, hexogen, in addition, the charges used for oil production.

The explosion in Arzamas in 1988 was the main and shocking tragedy for the whole society.

Consequences of the explosion

Already after the explosion thundered, at the place where the freight cars were at that moment, two funnels formed at once, which were interconnected. Their depth ranged from three and a half to four and a half meters. At the same time, the diameter of the first funnel was 26 meters, and the second - 76 meters.

The consequences of the explosion in Arzamas were catastrophic. He destroyed 151 houses, officially left 823 families homeless. Only according to official information, 91 people died, another 1500 were injured. The blast wave destroyed 250 meters of the railway track, serious damage has been done railway station, power substations, power lines, gas pipeline.

Among the social facilities among the victims were two hospitals, as many as 49 kindergartens, 14 general education schools and 69 stores. In total, 160 objects of industrial and economic importance were in the so-called affected zone.

Versions of what happened

Initially, violations of the procedure for loading and transporting explosives were considered the main version of the explosion in Arzamas in 1988. At the same time, the investigation carefully investigated the version and also the sabotage committed by one of the special services of another country in order to create an unstable situation in the Soviet Union.

It is believed that the true ones in Arzamas are still unknown. Many researchers and historians believe that the authorities and special services do not reveal the whole truth about what happened.

Now, at the site of the train explosion in Arzamas, a commemorative memorial has been erected, on which the names of all those who died in this disaster are carved. Every year on June 4, on the anniversary of the tragedy, local residents come to this place to remember the dead.

One of the consequences of the explosion in Arzamas on June 4, 1988 was the construction of as many as 11 microdistricts in the south of the city for families affected by this tragedy.

Was it a diversion?

The government commission, whose goal was to establish the true causes of the tragedy, worked at the crash site for several years. As a result, she did not manage to establish the exact causes of what happened. Basically, because of this, the version is so popular that it was a sabotage, a targeted act, and not an accident or someone's negligence.

Among the main versions of what happened is also called a spontaneous explosion of explosives that were in railway cars (mainly HMX and crystalline RDX). Most likely, this could happen due to mechanical damage or malfunction of the gas pipeline, which passed directly under the railway tracks.

In 2003, 15 years after the tragedy, (at that time it was Gennady Khodyrev) officially expressed his firm belief that the explosion in Arzamas on June 4, 1988 was the result of sabotage. But in reality, this widespread version has not found official confirmation and irrefutable evidence so far.

At the same time, it is worth recognizing that the version of the deliberate undermining of the train was one of the most popular, especially among local residents. It was believed that the ultimate goal was to cause as much damage as possible to the city itself. Mostly this version was built on the fact that the composition exploded in close proximity from the city itself. Additional food for thought was given near Ufa, which happened on the same day with the tragedy in Arzamas exactly a year later.

What happened in Ufa?

The catastrophe near Ufa became the largest in the history of Soviet and Russian railways. It took place on June 4, 1989 near the city of Iglinsk in the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, just 11 kilometers from the city of Ashi in the Chelyabinsk region. The explosion occurred at the moment when two passenger trains passed towards each other. One followed from Novosibirsk to Adler, and the second to reverse direction. By official version, the explosion occurred due to a cloud of light hydrocarbons, which were formed due to an accident that occurred on the pipeline "Siberia - Urals - Volga region". It passed in close proximity to the trains.

As a result of this tragedy, 575 people died, according to another version - 645. Of these, 181 children, about six hundred people were injured.

According to the official version, the disaster occurred due to a gas leak. Presumably, the gas pipeline was damaged by an excavator bucket during its construction back in 1985. Experts were able to establish that the gas leak began 40 minutes before the explosion.

According to another version, the cause of the accident was the effect of corrosion on the outer part of the pipe. This could be due to the so-called "stray currents" from the railroad. About three weeks before the explosion, a microfistula formed in that place, which, due to sudden cooling, turned into a crack at the site of gas expansion. When there was a meeting of two passenger trains, a spark arose due to braking, it was enough to start detonation of the gas. According to another assumption, a spark could have arisen from under the pantograph of one of the locomotives.

Facts about the tragedy in Arzamas

A lot of research is devoted to the tragedy in Arzamas, specialists and amateur historians managed to collect a large number of facts about this disaster. In particular, it was established that the first cargo was sent on May 31 from which it was located in the city of Dzerzhinsk. Explosives were loaded into ten wagons of a freight train.

As a result, three wagons with explosives became the lead in the freight train number 3115, which left on June 3 to the south of the country.

What exactly was in each car?

It has now been possible to establish what kind of explosives were in each of the cars.

The first was all-metal, it contained 30 tons of TNT in checkers, which were packed in corrugated cardboard boxes, as well as 286 kilograms of cumulative detonators in boxes made of ordinary fiberboard.

The second car was also all-metal. It contained 27 tons of HMX and more than 30 tons of phlegmatized RDX, which were carefully packed in six-layer paper bags.

Finally, the third car was made of wood. It contained paper cartridges, sealed with cellophane and then packed in cardboard boxes. Also in the car were stacked five tons of rocky ammonite and 25 tons of ammonal.

In total, the composition consisted of 54 wagons. At the time of the accident, he was moving at a speed of 22 kilometers per hour. The explosion itself in Arzamas-16 occurred exactly 324 meters from the railway station.

eyewitness memories

According to official figures, the explosion occurred exactly at 09:32 Moscow time. It was at this moment that the hands of the clock stopped on the dial, which is installed on the commemorative memorial. But state security officials who conducted the investigation and interviewed witnesses believe that the explosion actually happened six minutes earlier.

Eyewitnesses say that the station building itself was not badly damaged, its roof was blown off, but small one-story houses that were in the area within a radius of about 150 meters were simply blown away. There were many victims in the regular bus, which was located near the railway track. He completely blew off the top.

According to other eyewitnesses, at first, many thought it was. When they ran to the windows, they saw a large black mushroom that grew in the sky. Someone decided that it was the oil depot that exploded.

Where did the explosion take place?

Considering the versions of what happened, it is important to establish where the explosion directly occurred, inside or outside the car.

In favor of the fact that the epicenter of the explosion was inside the car, says the fact that thermal decomposition explosives occurred due to chemical instability. A strong mechanical impact on the thinnest layer of explosives led to a spark, which could have arisen even from a discharge static electricity. As a result, a bullet shot through the car, the shock-wave action began from a detonator capsule or an electric detonator.

Explosion outside the car

According to another version, the explosion could have occurred outside the car. It could be caused by an ignition or explosion of a gas-air mixture, which could occur hundreds of meters underground, where the gas pipeline passed. Some witnesses just claim that they felt the characteristic smell of gas.

Experts simulated a large number of situations that could lead to a tragedy, conducted a large number of tests. Exactly the same wagons were brought to the landfills, they were even shot at with weapons, they tried to set fire to explosives, they threw loads on them. A large number of witnesses and eyewitnesses of the explosion were interviewed. A thorough analysis was carried out of the method of loading and the condition in which the wagons themselves were located. Large-scale work has been carried out, but even now it is not possible to find out the truth.

terrible and terrible disaster took place on June 4, 1988 in Arzamas ...
Monument to those killed in the explosion on June 4, 1988 in Arzamas.

May 31, 1988 at the plant. Sverdlov in Dzerzhinsk, 10 freight cars were loaded with explosives intended for mining.
On June 3, three of them head cars of freight train No. 3115 headed to the south of the country. In the first car, all-metal, there were 30 tons of TNT in checkers, packed in corrugated cardboard boxes, and 286 kg of cumulative detonators in fiberboard boxes. The second, similar to the first, carried 27.28 tons of HMX and 30.4 tons of phlegmatized RDX packed in six-layer paper bags. The third car was wooden. In it, in paper cartridges, sealed with cellophane and packed in cardboard boxes, there were 5 tons of rock ammonite and 25 tons of ammonal.
A freight train of 54 cars at a speed of about 22 km per hour approached the 232nd km of the Soloveyka - Arzamas-1 section of the Gorky railway, 324 meters from the Arzamas-1 station ...
In total, 117 tons 966 kg of explosives were loaded into the wagons.

It is generally accepted that the explosion occurred at 9:32 Moscow time. It is at this mark that the clock hands are “stopped” on the dial, installed on the memorial memorial in Arzamas. However, the KGB officers, who minute by minute studied the movement of the train and interviewed witnesses, believe that it exploded at 9 hours 26 minutes.
According to eyewitnesses:
Sergey:
- I was at the scene of the tragedy in 5-7 minutes. I saw everything with my own eyes, helped to load the corpses, or rather what was left of them ...
For the rest of my life, the body of a policeman lying on the platform ran into my memory. His hair was completely on fire. Black as a mannequin, he flew out of his boots ...
I didn't recognize the place right away. The station building was not badly damaged, only the roof was blown off. In the district at that time there were only small private one-story houses. Within a radius of 100-150 meters they were blown to the ground.
The windows flew out in a larger radius. In our apartment from the side of the explosion they flew out completely. Poles with tangled wires were knocked down, trees were uprooted.
On the road, about 50 meters from the railway track, there was a regular bus. It completely blew off the top. The main victims from it ... Some corpses were loaded from there simply by weight, because it was impossible to make out where someone was ...

From the materials of the test
On the stretch, two interconnected funnels 3.5 and 4.5 meters deep and 26 and 76 meters in diameter were formed.
Complete destruction - radius 150 m - 44 houses.
Severe destruction - radius 300 m - 107 houses.
Medium destruction - radius 650 m - 120 houses.
Weak destruction - radius 900 m - 130 houses.
The official death toll is 91. Injuries varying degrees About 800 people received gravity.

Versions:
Simultaneously with the start of restoration work, KGB officers and experts began an investigation. Eight versions of what happened were considered.
1st. Inside the car
Thermal decomposition of explosives due to their chemical instability, movement of a thin layer of explosives between hard rubbing surfaces, strong mechanical impact on a thin layer of explosives, a spark from a discharge of static electricity and shooting through an explosive inside a car with a bullet, shock-wave action from a capsule detonator or electric detonator.
2nd. Outside the wagon
Ignition and explosion of the gas-air mixture (a gas pipeline ran a hundred meters underground, and many witnesses stated that they smelled gas before the explosion), burning of the axle box from a spark due to the contact wire touching the metal roof.
We will not analyze in detail each of these cases; the reasoning of specialists takes up more than one page of the conclusion. Let's just say that a repeated number of tests were simulated. Exactly the same wagons were put up at the training grounds and they were shot at with weapons. They tried to set fire to the explosives, they threw loads on it. Witnesses were questioned. They analyzed the method of loading explosives and the condition of the cars themselves - the remaining seven that left the Dzerzhinsky chemical enterprise that day.

Some eyewitnesses saw flames and smoke billowing from the bottom of the train's second car before the explosion. As it turned out later, the cargo in them was transported from flagrant violations: loaders stacked bags of explosives in 11 rows, although according to the rules there should be no more than 7.
To throw the bags to such a height, they used them as a footstool.
In one of the cars, 1.6 kg of HMX, wire cuttings and nails were found on the floor. The bags were not fixed in any way, and from the shocks of the train they could easily fall and crumble.
As the security officers established, the car with octogen-hexogen only at the Gorky-Sortirovochny station was subjected to dynamic impacts in the form of shocks and stops 19 times (!!!), in addition, in violation of all safety requirements for the transportation of such goods, it went down the hill twice. It is difficult to imagine how many victims and destruction could have been if explosives had worked at this largest railway junction.
Of all the explosives transported, HMX is the most sensitive to impact and friction, after which it ignites and detonates.

The nature of the craters from the explosion and its epicenter indicated that it was the fire in the second car that initiated the explosion.
Hot weather, the thermometer that morning showed 27 degrees above zero ... A metal car heated by the sun ... HMX scattered on the floor, caught under the metal roller of the door ... Fire ... Explosion ... Death ...
