The history of the village of Plesetsk. Where is the Plesetsk Cosmodrome located? Exact coordinates

Plesetsk January 21st, 2017

From the Kargopol Territory to Arkhangelsk, I traveled through Plesetsk, an urban-type settlement located on the Arkhangelsk railway. Plesetsk is quite large for a village - its population is 10 thousand inhabitants (during the collapse of the USSR there were 14 thousand). Plesetsk, unlike the old one, is not very remarkable: it is an almost completely Soviet workers' settlement and one of the personifications of the other side of the Russian North - the industrial one. In Plesetsk, I spent several hours in the evening after a very hot day (in the afternoon it felt at least 30 degrees), waiting for the train to Arkhangelsk.

In the Russian North, hot weather often accompanied me on this trip. At the same time, North is North - the farther away, the brighter the sun (and therefore the perception of heat increases), and the lighter in summer night. At the entrance to the Plesetsk region, the natural landscape somehow "severes": there are almost no meadows left, there is already a real taiga around, among the trees there is more and more larch, which is almost absent in the Kargopol region. The road from Kargopol to Plesetsk, by the way, is of excellent quality - it was reconstructed not so long ago. I got to Plesetsk by hitchhiking, continuing my way north by rail.

The name Plesetsk is widely known, thanks to the cosmodrome. But in fact, Plesetsk itself has nothing to do with the Plesetsk cosmodrome. The point is only in the name: the cosmodrome is indeed located 45 kilometers from Plesetsk, but it is served by the city of Mirny (32 thousand inhabitants), which is only 6 kilometers from here. But Mirny is a closed city, and you won’t get there without a pass. AT Soviet times this city was not even marked on the maps.

And Plesetsk was born by the railway. The main line Vologda - Arkhangelsk was opened in 1897 and until 1914 it was narrow gauge. Here, then still in the Onega district of the Arkhangelsk province, the Plesetskaya station appeared, which is still called that.

2. Train Station, unfortunately, spoiled by siding, so now it is frankly unattractive.

3. View from the side of the tracks (the picture was taken before leaving for Arkhangelsk). This is how Plesetsk is seen by people who regularly travel further north.

Despite the fact that there is almost one direction on the railway, the schedule at the Plesetsk railway station is rather big. Trains to Arkhangelsk run from Moscow (two trains), and from St. Petersburg, and from Kotlas. Only when I arrived in Plesetsk, I saw at the station a Belarusian train Minsk - Arkhangelsk that looked strange in these parts (it's just funny to see cars with the inscriptions "Belarusian chigunka" in the Arkhangelsk region). There is also a train Moscow - Severodvinsk, there is Vologda - Murmansk, which, before reaching Arkhangelsk, turns off at the Obozerskaya station towards Karelia. And in the summer, several additional trains are appointed to the southern resorts.

4. Although, as already mentioned, Plesetsk itself has nothing to do with the cosmodrome, there is still a reminder of it in the form of a rocket at the station.

5. Having examined the station, I went for a walk around this small town. Partizanskaya street leads to the center from the station.

6. Plesetsk is a typical Russian North sawmill. Wooden walkways along the streets, wooden Stalinist two-story buildings, among which there are quite interesting ones. And above all this - green foliage ... On the village streets you can hear the horns of electric locomotives and the sound of wheels, and behind the railway you can see stacks of logs and a sawmill.

7. There are many cozy green courtyards here:

8. Monument near one of the railway station streets. Nikolai Sinkevich (1936-1963) - a local police hero who died while detaining criminals in 1963.

Of course, I could not help but pay attention to his Polish surname (especially since there is also Uborevich street nearby, named after the participant civil war in the Arkhangelsk province).

10. Another example of Soviet wooden architecture:

11. In the city park summer evening walked locals. There is also a memorial to fellow countrymen who died in the Great Patriotic War.

Behind the memorial is a stadium where the guys were playing football at that moment.

12. This noticeably dilapidated house has already been settled. But the posters were hung on him. "7 wonders of the Plesetsk region" on the poster - this is clearly almost everything about Kenozersky national park located not far from here.

13. And here is the district administration - apparently the most capital stalin in Plesetsk. By the way, the territory from here is controlled rather big. The territories of Russia, as you know, are measured European countries: so the Plesetsk region is larger than Slovenia and almost equal to Belgium, but a little more than forty thousand people live in it. Such are the Russian expanses, and even more so in the North.

As already mentioned, the population of Plesetsk is 10 thousand inhabitants, so it seems rather like a small city, and it is even strange that at one time the status of a city was not given to it. In addition to it, there are three more urban-type settlements in the region - Severoonezhsk, where bauxite is mined (5 thousand inhabitants), Savinsky sawmill (7 thousand) and Obozersky railway (3.5 thousand), where I visited after Arkhangelsk.

14. Almost opposite the administration is a school. This is a later building.

15. Behind the administration is a monument to Lenin, born from a stone block. By the way, as it turned out, it was removed in the post-Soviet years, and now it was recreated just a few years ago.

Next to Lenin there is also a sculpture of an elk, which for some reason I forgot to capture.

16. Some streets in Plesetsk are paved with concrete slabs instead of asphalt. This is often the case in the North.

17. More Soviet wooden architecture:

19. In the north, slowly, the sun was setting. But the night will be very bright and short. At these latitudes, white nights continue in mid-July.

20. Later development - panel two-story buildings:

21. And this is the Church of St. John the Theologian, built in 2000. Of course, in the style of the temples of the Russian North, as in the vicinity of Kargopol. Although, if the roof and the head were made under the plowshare, it would be more beautiful.

22. Side streets are sometimes quite unsightly:

23. There are also five-story buildings in Plesetsk. And there are quite a lot of them - and in Kargopol, similar in population, they are not from the word "absolutely".

24. These houses are already in a well-groomed condition.

25. And here is some new building behind the trees:

27. Penny and woodpile:

28. And typically northern boardwalks, characteristic of forest-rich regions, where, moreover, in the off-season and during rains, the earth becomes especially limp due to swampy soil.

So, having walked around the evening Plesetsk, I returned to the station. The sun was almost down, it was warm summer evening at a busy station and the atmosphere of railway romance. When it was almost ten o'clock, the spotlight of the electric locomotive ChS4T lit up in the distance, pulling an additional summer train Novorossiysk - Arkhangelsk, on which I regional center it was a four hour drive.

There are no seated cars, so I took the cheapest ticket to the reserved seat (the top side of the toilet without linen). True, the bottom shelf below me was not occupied, and therefore I took both, putting my backpack on top. The tanned Arkhangelsk citizens rode home from the Black Sea in the car, the train raced through the forests, and in the sky the sunset smoothly turned into white night. The schedule at the train was rather inconvenient - he came to Arkhangelsk at two in the morning. I even had time to sleep - I fell asleep during the parking in Obozerskaya, and woke up already when the train thundered over the bridge across the Northern Dvina. To my hostel in Arkhangelsk, I walked through the deserted night city, when the sun was already beginning to rise.

30. This is what the station in Arkhangelsk looked like at two in the morning. About this city - the capital of Pomorye in the delta of the Northern Dvina, I will soon tell in several parts.

The urban-type settlement of Plesetsk is a municipality on the territory of the Arkhangelsk region, located at a distance of 200 kilometers from Arkhangelsk. This area is equated with the area Far North. About 10 thousand people live in the village, most of which are representatives of Russian nationality.

First written references about Plesetsk date back to 1894. The Plesetskaya station in the village was built and included in the register of railways Russian Empire in 1897, on the Vologda-Arkhangelsk narrow-gauge railway. In 1924, the Plesetsk volost was founded, administrative center which was located in the village of Navolok. In October 1926, the formation of the Plesetsk fortified volost took place, which became subordinate to the Arkhangelsk district, and the village of Plesetsk became its center. In the summer of 1929, as a result of another administrative reform, the Plesetsky district of the Arkhangelsk district was founded, while the village of Samoded was attached to the Plesetsky district.

On March 2, 1932, the decision of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee was made, according to which, the village of Plesetskoye received the status of a workers' settlement, and it was also given the name Plesetsk.

At the beginning of the last century, less than a hundred people lived on the territory of the Plesetskaya station, or rather, there were 85 inhabitants. Ten years later, the population in the village grew to almost three hundred. And in 1932, 4,725 people lived on the territory of Plesetsk. During the Great Patriotic War, the population of the village decreased by almost three times. However, already in the middle of the twentieth century, the population of Plesetsk was already 12 thousand inhabitants.

The origin of the name of the railway station, then the volost, and then the village is connected with the nearby lake, which is called Plestsy, as well as former village Plesetskaya.

The climate in Plesetsk can be described as temperate continental. The average annual air temperature in the village is 1.5 °C, with a relative humidity of 76%.

Plesetsk is a small industrial village, the economy of which is based on the activities of the main local enterprises. Great importance for Plesetsk has railroad station, due to which the products produced in the village are transported to other parts of the country. On the territory of the village there are enterprises engaged in logging and processing of wood, production of concrete and reinforced concrete structures.

It is worth noting that although Plesetsk is a small village, however, there is also a very rich cultural life. On the territory of the village there are a folk choir, a center children's creativity, hockey team, music school.

In general, Plesetsk is a small and cozy village, lost in the Russian outback. Here life flows as usual, and new events happen quite rarely. In general, there is a beautiful and calm atmosphere, and the locals are distinguished by special cordiality and friendliness.

If everything is more or less clear with Baikonur, then the question of where the Plesetsk cosmodrome is located will puzzle many. And that's because not much is said about him. It is worth filling in the missing information.

When did it all start?

Winter 1957. It was then that in January it was decided to create a military facility. It was supposed to be the first intercontinental connection. The same year was marked by the beginning of the construction of the first launch complex. Today, the cosmodrome has six launch sites, some of which are under reconstruction.

How was its location chosen?

Now you can just be interested in where Plesetsk, the famous cosmodrome, is located, but then it was necessary to find a suitable area for it.

At that time, many factors had to be taken into account. They have not lost their importance modern world. The place where the Plesetsk cosmodrome is located satisfies the following conditions:

  • close location of the railway station;
  • the ability to hit a potential enemy;
  • compliance with the conditions of special secrecy;
  • has the ability to conduct test launches in the area of the Kamchatka Peninsula;
  • remote from large settlements and located in a sparsely populated area.

All these requirements are met by the territory at some distance from Arkhangelsk. It is there that the place where the Plesetsk cosmodrome is located is located.

What are its coordinates?

It is not always enough information that it is located at a distance of about 180 km to the south from Arkhangelsk. It happens that you need to know exactly where the Plesetsk cosmodrome is located. Coordinates then will be very handy.

Although talking about accurate geographic data for locality very difficult, because it is very stretched over a vast territory. But still. Most sources provide the following information:

  • east longitude - 40.68º or 40°41′;
  • northern latitude - 62.96 or 62 ° 57 ′.

A bit of his history

The first launcher was completed two years after construction began. And a year later (in 1960) the combat duty of the first missile began.

After another three years, it was decided to use the existing launch sites to launch satellites. And in 1966, the first of them was sent into orbit from the Plesetsk cosmodrome. After this event, the spaceport began to be actively used. And the next two decades were characterized by the fact that every fourth world space launch was carried out from this very place.

Until the beginning of 1999, more than one and a half thousand launches of carrier rockets were made.

Moreover, out of this number, only 49 were accompanied by emergency situations.

The plans for the use of the cosmodrome include a clause on the implementation of manned flights.

Information about the spaceport and its surrounding area

"1st State Testing" - this is the official name of the Plesetsk cosmodrome. brief information about him is:

The name was given by the Plesetskaya station, owned by;

The area is characterized as a plateau-like hilly plain;

The territory is located in which is characterized by extreme instability and is quite cold;

The spaceport covers an area of 1762 km2;

Its length along the parallel is about 46 km, along the meridian - 82 km;

The administrative center of the cosmodrome is located in Mirny;

Its population varies from 30 to 50 thousand people, this value depends on what task Plesetsk performs;

The status of the city is ZATO, which stands for "closed administrative-territorial entity".

How does it affect the environment?

The area where the Plesetsk cosmodrome is located, however, like any other, can hardly be called environmentally safe. But more on that later. First, about the changes that have taken place in environment. And they are obvious. Because it was necessary to build the spaceport itself and the facilities for its maintenance on the cleared territory. In addition, it was necessary to erect residential buildings and infrastructure so that service personnel could live in close proximity from work.

Mainly Negative influence render falling parts of missiles that are separated from them during the flight. The territory has 11 fall areas. Building is limited here, the land is not used for agricultural land. And all because they may have leftovers. It contains poisonous substance unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine and also acts as an accelerator of plant growth. Therefore, around the spaceports, there is usually an increased growth of grass in places where fuel has been spilled.

It is worth noting that in last years significantly reduced the number of launches. Therefore, the falling parts of launch vehicles became smaller. For this reason, the concentration harmful substances decreased.

Plus, the latest launches are carried out on fuel consisting of kerosene or liquid oxygen. Only occasionally are rockets flown that still use old fuel. This also significantly affects the concentration of dimethylhydrazine and nitrogen tetroxide in the environment. It changes down. In addition, 4 landfills have not been used at all for several years. Some are even longer than 10.

All this applies to spilled fuel. What burns inside the engines does not cause harm due to exhaust. Because they are maintained so that the fuel burns almost without residue. Its combustion results in water, carbon dioxide and nitrogen.
