Lipetsk State Pedagogical University (LGPU)- the oldest higher educational institution the city of Lipetsk. Founded in 1949 on the basis of Lipetsk pedagogical school as a teaching institution.

The university includes: 13 faculties, Institute of Culture and Art, 10 scientific laboratories. Among them:

Social Monitoring Laboratory;

Center for retraining and advanced training of educators (together with the Department of Education and Science Lipetsk region);

Laboratory of cultural studies of the heritage of the Lipetsk Territory (together with the Department of Culture and Art of the Lipetsk Region);

On December 1, 2009, by the decision of the Academic Council of the University, a decision was made to reorganize the center of pre-university and additional education into the Center for Postgraduate Education of the Leningrad State Pedagogical University. This was the result of the statement of the President of the Russian Federation D. A. Medvedev about the need to transform pedagogical universities Russia into powerful centers of education. As of October 15, 2011, 457 teachers work at the university. During 2007-2009 at the university, in connection with the tasks of modernizing the country's higher education system, serious measures were taken, in particular, at the suggestion of the Academic Council of the University, starting from September 1, 2007, the number of places in pedagogical specialties was significantly reduced while increasing budget places to non-pedagogical areas of training (protection of information, clinical psychology, ecology, regional studies, applied informatics, Applied Mathematics, humanitarian university specialties - history, cultural studies, translation, journalism).

Since December 2008, innovation centers have been actively operating at the university, which recent times managed to earn about 20 million rubles. This happened due to an increase in the share of positions occupied by doctors and candidates of sciences, as well as by optimizing the human resources potential of the university (increasing the share of young scientists with academic degrees and titles (up to 40% at the university), reducing the share of teachers over 65 years old and without degree).
