What is laziness and how to deal with it? Laziness as a defense mechanism.

Folk wisdom has always been a "textbook" of the life of Russian people. The proverb “Laziness spoils, but labor feeds” did not stand aside. Let's take a closer look at this phrase. Perhaps it will come in handy in life in the most desperate moments, at the time of being discouraged and depressed. In addition, if a person overcomes both laziness and work, he will be able to look at life with different eyes. No wonder in Holy Scripture it is said that laziness finally spoils it.

What is laziness, what is work?

Laziness is the unwillingness to work mentally or physically. For example, a student tells his parents: "I'm too lazy to write an essay!". On the other hand, let's say the wife lies on the sofa with the thought: "Too lazy to cook dinner!". What will be the mood of her life partner if, when he comes home, he finds that there is no food? AT this case laziness spoils his wife.

And labor feeds a person (in the example with his wife). If a woman wants to cook a delicious meal, then she will feed not only her husband, but also herself and her children. The same with a student: if he writes an essay through “I don’t want to”, then he will go to bed with a calm soul and in a good mood.

Thus, labor is physical or mental work leading to the final result. As a result, a person's life changes for the better.

What will happen to a person if he is lazy?

It is very important to understand what laziness can lead to. Surely many of you have noticed that no one respects a lazy person. Yes, and he practically does not love himself (although it seems to him the opposite).

In addition, a lazy person’s home is unkempt, the person himself can be sloppy. It is immediately clear that laziness spoils a person. And labor feeds the one who is ready to step over the desire to take a break from all business.

The character and mood of the lazy

As a rule, laziness leads to despondency, depression and loss of meaning in life. A person day after day spends time in dreams, languishes before his eyes and even falls ill. It is not by chance that the proverb "Laziness spoils, but labor feeds" was invented. Indeed, it spoils a person first of all from the inside. The lazy person is not satisfied with his life, it seems to him that fate is not favorable to him.

What will happen to the industrious?

If a lazy person started to work, then his life would change overnight. For example, a person constantly lies on the couch, doing nothing. A lot of dust has accumulated in the room, the refrigerator is empty. For something to change better side, you need to get up, go to the grocery store, wash the floors, wipe the dust. In this case, the person himself will understand that laziness spoils, the labor of a person feeds, pleases, gives hope for the best and good mood.

The character and outlook of the working man

An industrious person does not get tired of any work, both mental and physical. Having done the necessary things, he goes to sleep with a clear conscience. Every day he makes plans for the day, fulfills them, training willpower. Accordingly, such a person always has a good mood, there are goals and aspirations. He has everything, everything you need for well-being.

In addition, they always turn to him for help, everyone respects him. And also the industrious person receives much more blessings and wealth in life than he expects.

In general, in order to do a good deed, you need to overpower yourself, step over laziness. No wonder in Orthodox Church laziness is considered a sin. He must be fought with. If you can’t cope on your own, you should ask God for help.

We wish you that you have a love for work, a good mood, and that you achieve your goals, which are embodied only through hard work and the desire to do good.

Laziness is a lack of desire to engage in labor activity, a state when people prefer work free time conducting.

What is laziness

Laziness has long been considered one of the human vices and is included in the standard seven deadly sins.

However, in conditions of long-term employment, such a phenomenon can be considered as a signal of the body about the need for rest and the cessation of work activity.

Based on the results of the experiments, the researchers concluded that a person whose labor contribution is not evaluated as his personal achievement shows labor laziness.

However lazy man and weak-willed are not the same thing. Externally, laziness and depression, as well as some other mental disorders, may have the same manifestation, but the causes of their occurrence are different.

However, back to the experiments. Experts are sure: when a person feels the futility of his actions, the subconscious turns on the mechanism of laziness. Why is this happening?

social laziness

into use this term introduced by Max Ringelman. A number of experiments were carried out. Participants were not told that their personal contribution was valued at group work, as a result, their efficiency indicators turned out to be three times lower than those for self-employment.

The next test was even more interesting. The man was blindfolded and given a rope in his hands, while informing him that five more people would pull him with him. As a result, the subject pulled the rope alone and applied less (by 18%) forces than if he knew that he needed to work on his own.

One more test. Small group of test subjects. Participants are asked to shout as loudly as they can. At the same time, they put on headphones so that they do not hear the noise that they themselves create. Each person made three times less noise than in single tests.

Types of laziness

Laziness is the most various kinds. Let's consider some of them in more detail.

1. Thinking. A person does not want to think about the results of this or that action.

2. Physical. Sometimes rest is simply necessary, but in everything you need to know the measure and not abuse it.

3. Laziness of an emotional nature. As the individual develops emotional background is also subject to change. New Year is no longer the same as it was in childhood, the music is also not so groovy, and the partner has gained a lot negative aspects, people are worse and angrier than in youth ... Emotional fading can lead to apathy. Such disorders should be treated by professional physicians.

4. Creative laziness. It is characteristic of many inventors and people of creative professions. It is observed when a person thinks for a long time on a question of interest to him, and then unexpectedly receives an answer. A prime example Newton appears with an apple that fell on his head during his hours of reflection.

5. Pathological laziness occurs if you go overboard and go too far with rest. Psychologist D. Carnegie described such a case. One woman claimed to be seriously ill. Her mother nursed her while she lay in bed. When the mother died, the daughter was miraculously cured immediately.

6. Philosophical laziness. This kind of "doing nothing" arises as a result of misinterpretation of religious texts. Especially often this is observed with excessive immersion in Buddhism. If a the world is nothing but emptiness, then all actions lose their meaning.

Each person has several types of laziness.

Causes of laziness

Laziness is also a conscious desire of a person not to make any effort to get desired result. That is, it is also the saving of one's own reserve of forces.

The reasons for laziness can be very diverse, but the most common ones still manage to be identified:

  1. Overwork - the body has exhausted the supply of physical and emotional forces and unable to maintain the same level of work capacity.
  2. Feeling that the work being done is not necessary this moment. Usually this feeling is intuitive.
  3. Unwillingness to cope with the assigned tasks.
  4. Absence of the habit of leading a mobile, dynamic lifestyle.
  5. The inability to plan your day, the lack of a clear plan that will solve all the problems, no matter how many of them have accumulated.
  6. Just a desire to get the rest you need.

As seen, different reasons can cause laziness. Psychology describes this phenomenon as a lack of motivation.

This condition may occur in the absence of natural causes, pushing the individual to action: hunger, cold, other threats - that is, factors that affect his survival and safety.

A lazy person thinks like this: "I don't see the point in doing this now or ever."

Laziness in different branches of human activity

AT psychology laziness is more of a bad habit than a disease. And there is a lot of evidence for that. Research in this area shows that laziness, the causes of which depend on many factors - from lack of motivation to excessive stimulation - is a consequence of the development a large number dopamine in the body. And what do experts from other fields say about this?

Economy

Economists argue that laziness, idleness is the result of the hard and outcast work of other people. And people work productively when they are sure that the return on labor will be much higher than their contribution.

Religion

In religion, laziness is a vice, a mortal sin, which is defined as a spiritual or physical unwillingness to do anything, apathy.

In the "Epistle to the Hebrews", in one of the sayings of Jesus, given state also not welcome.

Muslims believe that laziness comes directly from Hell, which means that it must be fought by everyone possible ways. So, prayer five times a day, on an empty stomach, is a good prevention of an idle state.

Buddhism views laziness as an unhealthy thing that includes lying down as well as stretching.

culture

Laziness occupies a strong place in human culture. It is described in books, its influence is shown in cinema, it is condemned in the folklore of almost all peoples. For example, some proverbs about laziness hint that it leads to poverty and misery. What about fairy tales? It's actually a treasure trove folk wisdom! Remember in cautionary tales a lazy person always has many problems, at least until he realizes his shortcoming and begins to correct himself.

Leni is dedicated to some series of the popular American series"Supernatural", anime " Fullmetal Alchemist”, the film “The Big Lebowski”. Everyone is also familiar with Dante Alighieri's comedy " The Divine Comedy”, where laziness is successfully located on the 5th circle of hell.

Proverbs about laziness

There are many folk parables and proverbs that tell about perhaps the most common human flaw.

Here are some Russian proverbs about laziness.

  1. Labor gives, but laziness takes.
  2. Every day a lazy person has laziness.
  3. Who is lazy is not appreciated.
  4. You, brothers, grind, and we will eat.
  5. They go to the pies, but they run away from work.
  6. Lazy and tired of sitting.
  7. Laziness is worse than sickness.
  8. A rolling stone gathers no moss.
  9. A loafer and a loafer - they have a holiday on Monday.
  10. Lazy is a lot of excuses.

Oral folklore condemns laziness as a phenomenon and proves that a lazy person is a burden to others.

The phenomenon under consideration and cinematography does not bypass its attention. Many films have been made about laziness and lazy people, and even more - cartoons. Often the main characters suffer from this vice, while abrupt change environmental conditions does not force them to reconsider their behavior and priorities.

Laziness as an ally

Of course, laziness deserves blame. But is it as dangerous and disgusting as it is painted? If you look at this phenomenon from the other side, it turns out that there are positive aspects.

So, laziness is also the engine of progress. Many inventions, without which we can no longer imagine our lives, arose precisely thanks to all-consuming laziness. I don't want to get up from the couch to change channels - and here's the remote remote control ready! You do not want to climb the stairs - the elevator and escalator are at your service! In principle, they also solve the problem of descent.

Mobile phones, means of transportation greatly simplify human life, save time and, in a sense, indulge our laziness.

But is it really so important if we only benefit from it?

The negative side of laziness

Many have already found peace and even come up with an excuse for their laziness by reading about it. positive impact. However, do not relax. Perhaps, if it were not for mother laziness, there would be much more inventions.

Just think how much interesting ideas she crushed in the bud, how many relationships she spoiled, how many desires were not destined to come true! And sometimes the price of laziness is human life.

There are many such examples, it is enough to turn on the daily news so that the decision to change one's life fills a person. Although how long this desire will last is also a big question.

Fight, lose or negotiate

How to overcome laziness, this eternal enemy of accomplishments? No way. Moreover, this is not required at all (and let's be realistic, it is impossible to do this). As mentioned above, laziness, like everything in this world, has two sides of the coin. This means that people should learn to use it for their own purposes and receive certain benefits from this cooperation. Such a symbiosis.

What to do if you are too lazy to even move? You just lie on the couch or bed, slowly merging with this comfortable furniture. In the event of such an attack of laziness (do not confuse with real fatigue or poor health!) Try to look at yourself from the outside. So...

Here you are, absolutely relaxed, your hair is randomly tousled ... Obviously, styling or at least washing would not hurt. Are you a man and beautifully styled hair is not so important? Well! On the face - two-, no, five-day stubble. Not very neat either, is it? The skin on the face does not look very fresh ... You should do peelings and masks ... A peeling manicure does not make you more attractive ... And the muscles literally spread out on a horizontal surface ... Maybe you shouldn’t bypass the gym on the tenth road?

Your laziness, so sweet and defenseless, lies next to you, on the already, sorry, slightly smelly bed linen (when did you wash it last?).

As a rule, after such a visualization, a person gets up and begins to do at least something. This does not mean that you will run into the hall or go to beat the carpets, but the ice, as they say, at least a little, let it move, and laziness will go away. Psychology offers many ways to counter your idleness, but this one is one of the most effective.

Try it for yourself when the time is right and you will see the result for yourself.

And remember: laziness, the causes of which are of the most diverse nature, is not your enemy. Moreover, with the right interaction, she is yours. faithful companion and inspirer. If you do not agree with this, go to next section our article.

If you want to become more active and involved in your own own life, you should exclude the very causes of this condition.

How to overcome laziness? Rule out the following:

  • lack of interest in what you are doing;
  • energy exhaustion;
  • creative crisis.

Each of these factors is the cause of laziness and the feeling of “giving up”, but each of them requires a different “treatment”. In some cases good way out there will be a change in the type of activity, and sometimes you need to continue doing the old business, but raise the bar.

""Many people have a dream that can be realized within a week, but they make it a dream of their whole life" - words belonging to an unknown author, but how clearly they reflect the condition of most people!

Pass a simple test. Let's say you're too lazy to get up early in the morning. But will you enjoy if you have to get up early to go, say, to the Maldives, Bali, trip around the world? The answer is obvious, right?

The main thing is to see the meaning in what you are doing.

It’s good if a person is inherently hardworking. He will quickly get bored with laziness as a useless, idle pastime. But most people have a monotonous life: home - work - home ... Monotonous work activity quickly leads to a decrease in motivation. And this, in turn, Right way to laziness. Which exit? Obviously, you need to add variety to your daily routine.

You can sign up for courses, lectures that you have long wanted to attend, go in for sports, if this desire does not leave you. In some cases, it may be beneficial to change jobs if possible. this stage, or go on vacation, make friends with people with whom you would like to maintain a closer relationship.

Another way to avoid bouts of laziness is to make a daily routine and stick to it. Take Special attention to your body and body - a contrast shower in the morning gives strength and energizes, not to mention the fact that after it you definitely won’t want to sleep. healthy eating Provides the body with essential vitamins and minerals. Listen to good music, take a few minutes to meditate and visualize.

Work with contentment, experiencing satisfaction from the work done.

Feeling cheerful and energetic is a sure indicator of physical health. Therefore, you should exercise every day. You can start with the habit of exercising in the morning. And in your free time, do yoga, fitness or sports games. It all depends on personal preference here. Sports activities contribute to the production of endorphins, so very soon you will like such hated exercises. Do not forget about your body, take care of it, holte and cherish.

Laziness as a symptom of an energy decline

Every person periodically experiences a lack of energy and desire to do what they love. You work selflessly, experiencing the joy of the work done, but gradually you simply run out of steam, and your strength leaves you.

What to do in this case? First, review your diet. Not all problems are spiritual in nature, physical health is also very important factor. You should think about rest, for example, go on vacation, recharge yourself with positive energy and get the necessary incentive to continue your work.

Laziness - of course, the usual, everyday occurrence, the eternal companion of any person, it can be both a gift of nature and a real punishment. But how far it will go depends only on specific person and case.

What is the opposite of "lazy"? Synonyms and antonyms of this word are quite diverse. The words “idleness”, “idleness”, “laziness”, “apathy” will be similar in meaning. Opposite - "industriousness", "labor", "active activity".

Alternating work and leisure the right way keep yourself in good shape and maintain a balance of energy. Remember that you need to equally monitor both physical health and mental health.

Laziness is a common and convenient excuse for one's own inaction. Are its reasons objective or invented by us? Is it possible to fight laziness?

When I sat down with this material, I wanted to look into dictionaries and see what definition is given to this concept. A large explanatory dictionary defined laziness, as “lack of desire to work or do anything; dislike for work.

Dictionary Dahl gave the following definition: “Laziness - reluctance to work, aversion from work, from business, occupations; inclination to idleness, to parasitism.

"Lack of desire to act, work, propensity to idleness"- this is how laziness was defined by the Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language S.I. Ozhegova, N.Yu. Shvedova.

I continued to study laziness and came across information that indicated that the attitude towards laziness in ancient times was purely negative, in the Middle Ages it was considered an evil, and in Christianity laziness was called a sin. Only the last centuries laziness is considered negative character trait.

There are four approaches to studying the nature of laziness:

So the first approach

Laziness as a negative property of a person's personality. I'll start from afar.

I am a mother of two sons with a difference in age of nine and a half years. I constantly watch them unwittingly. My observations clearly show that laziness as a lack of desire to act, a tendency to idleness the youngest was completely absent until the age of four. That is, up to about four years old, the child was actively involved in any activity, from cleaning toys to shopping in the store - absolutely everything was interesting and exciting for him!

The first attempts to be lazy (avoid activities) began to appear when the son began to actively attend Kindergarten. He was too lazy to dress himself, as well as draw on a given topic, cut with scissors.

He just didn't get started. Moreover, if you need to dress up to visit your grandmother - the child was ahead of adults, and if in kindergarten (it was very difficult for him to get used to the garden), then he sat in an armchair, lined with clothes and, for example, sang. If you had to draw not circles and lines, but fantasize with a brush in your hands (just smear paint on paper), then such drawing was done so quickly that I didn’t have time to submit clean sheets. And if he was asked to draw something specific, for example, the sun, the child answered: "No, let's draw better." And the son simply did not know how to handle scissors ...

As you may have guessed, the child sought to avoid work in which he felt unsuccessful, or work that would lead to an undesired result. At the same time, I understood well that success is born only in action: if you don’t use scissors regularly, you won’t learn how to cut, if you don’t draw circles, you won’t draw a round object. And the child simply stopped at the line called “I can’t do it” and did not dare to cross it.

This pattern of behavior is repeated, fixed and becomes a character trait.

So, the first reason for laziness is the fear of failure. If in your beliefs there is a causal relationship “don’t do it - it might not work out”, you need to consciously overcome it. After all, you and I understand: if you don’t pick up scissors, you won’t learn how to cut them; the first circle is never as smooth as that of someone who is excellent with scissors.

Should you stop if you really want to have some meaningful results?

Recently my eldest son, who is now in his teens, asked me complex issue: "What's the point human life? Of course, at first I thought about how to answer him. I began to reason from the point of view of biology, philosophy, religion. Suddenly, a very transparent conclusion dawned on me that the meaning of life, whatever one may say, is in development! And if you look at laziness from the position of development - it is his huge brake! In this sense, I agree with Christian philosophy, which considers laziness a sin.

I continue to watch my children. My eldest son is a student. Needless to say, there are a lot of problems that are too lazy to solve. First of all, too lazy to do homework. But not all. Sometimes he loudly asks: "What's the point, just wasting time?!" I understand that schoolchildren are hostages of the system. And I answer that this is a test of strength, you can, you will overcome it - well done! I said this to myself when at work (and I liked my job) there were meaningless tasks, to start which was not even laziness, but rather dreary.

Conclusion: unloved business, meaningless work cause not just laziness, but include internal blocking for their execution.

There are only two ways to work with laziness of this nature: not to do what causes a categorical protest of consciousness, or to come up with own motive on the principle of "I'll do it - I'm done." The danger is that such games with consciousness (I'll do it - well done) cannot be permanent, it will get tired of playing. The best option is to change your unloved occupation to your favorite!

Another kind of “dreary laziness” happens when a capable and ambitious person becomes uninterested in engaging in activities in which the ceiling is reached. In children's groups, children whose level of development is ahead of their peers become too lazy to complete tasks together with everyone.

You can overcome this kind of laziness only by going beyond the "ceiling" on new level development.

Second approach

Laziness is a protective mechanism of the body. This is a quality that manifests itself only at certain moments of life and is necessary for relaxation. When a person works a lot, the body itself begins to refuse to work.

Certainly, common sense there is. A person needs a break from work. If laziness is dosed and does not become chronic, there is nothing to worry about. But, in my opinion, it is wiser to learn to organize yourself in such a way that work and rest alternate consciously and sensibly, so that rest causes a thirst for work, and work is rewarded with rest.

This approach will help prevent "burnout" at work, which entails serious psychological, and in a neglected form, mental problems.

What you realize, you control; What you don't realize controls you.

Another reason laziness manifests itself as a defense mechanism lies in the lack of vital energy. This happens when you realize that you will get a result if you start doing something. You are not afraid of a fiasco, you simply do not have the strength. Even a favorite thing begins to annoy and cause doubts. And all because your current physical form does not match the goals. And your energy sources do not give enough strength to act. So, to overcome laziness. you need to stop and rest, recuperate.

There are also opinions according to which laziness is the engine of progress, without it there would be no discoveries. I think there is a misunderstanding here.

“Lack of desire to work or do anything, dislike of work, aversion from work, from business, a tendency to idleness, to parasitism, lack of desire to act, a tendency to idleness”- not the same thing as the search for new ways to achieve results. If a person does not just do nothing, but finds a way and does it differently - this is no longer laziness.

Third Approach

Laziness is a disease.

I am not a doctor, and I will not undertake to think in this direction. I will only suggest that laziness is not a cause, but only a consequence of improper upbringing, improper self-organization, internal promiscuity, which eventually become chronic and make a person chronically lazy.

Fourth Approach

Laziness is a myth! And this point of view is closest to me in all respects. The only reason for inaction is only that you failed to see in time the lies that were inscribed among your beliefs. This lie in moments of doubt on a silver platter presents your consciousness.

For example, consciousness prompts my child: “Don’t pick up scissors, you still won’t be able to cut a beautiful circle.” But this is a lie! The truth is that in the activity with scissors, the skill of using them is formed!

Or consciousness warns me: “You live no worse than others, calm down! Why change something? But you can perceive the situation differently: “You live worse than your own expectations, many have achieved what you dream of. Dare and you will succeed!”

Or such a belief: “I would do it, I would learn, and I would ... But I’m not ready yet and there is no one to help me ...”

These are all examples of beliefs that live in our minds. They force us to stop and do nothing. But beliefs are a convention, a myth!
